Our
Brenda Ashley
August 19, 1939 January 31, 2015
On Jan 31, 2015 we lost a
cherished limb of our family tree.
Brenda will be missed more than
words can say by her husband of
almost 56 years, David, her
daughter Jo-Anne (Hubert)
Jacobs of Athabasca and son
Adam of Fort McMurray. She
was the glue that held us
together and her greatest pride
and joy were Adam’s children.
Alex (Ashley Gray) Ashley,
Danielle Ashley and partner
Nathan, Justin Ashley and
partner Sawsha. Alex and
A s h l e y ’ s d a u g h te r J a e l y n ,
Brenda’s only great-grandchild, is
the next branch of her legacy. All
her grandchildren were born and
raised in Fort McMurray and live
there today with their families.
Brenda was also grateful for the
extended family she inherited she loved them deeply - son-inlaw Hubert’s children Todd
(Melanie) Jacobs and children
Jayde Boyd, Breanne, Zachary
and Damon and his daughter
Tracey (Marlon) McLean along
with their children Kolby, Reece
and Piper. One of her many
endearing qualities were the
cards she sent out to all of them
for any occasion - she never
missed the chance to let them
know they had a special place in
her heart.
Her love for her family knew no
bounds and was always
unconditional
In her younger years, her and
David developed a passion for
cruising - their adventures
included Asia, Cape Horn, the
Panama
Canal
and
Mediterranean to name a few.
Her stories after each adventure
left us all rolling on the floor in
laughter !!!
In her later years, she developed
a love of quilting. She spent
many, many hours at the local
fabric shop scouring through
looking for that ‘perfect’ quarter of
fabric for her next project and
then many, many weeks
transforming those quarters into
masterpieces.
Brenda and David arrived in
Canada from Great Britain in
1970. They made their home in
Fort McMurray, retired in
Medicine Hat and spent the last
12 years living in Athabasca
Brenda also leaves behind her
niece Sharon (Todd) Mathieson,
their children Ryan and Justin as
well as 2 nephews - Dale Wilson
and Phil (Robyn) Wilson - all of
the Edmonton area. She was
predeceased by her mother Elsie
Garvey, sister Linda Wilson and
brother Graham Garvey.
A Funeral Service was held on
Wednesday February 4, 2015 at
11:00 a.m. at the Athabasca
Community
Chapel
with
Reverend Marty Hays officiating
with cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to the Alberta Lung
Association.

Family...Honouring Your Fam
In Memory of
Caroline Shymoniak
March 20, 1942 – February 20, 2011
Remember her with a smile today
She was not one for tears
Reflect instead on memories of
All our happy years
Recall to mind the way she spoke
And all the things she said
Her strength, her laugh
The way she walked
Remember those instead
The good advice she gave us
The eyes that shone with laughter
So much of her will never die
But will live on forever after
