FROM THE PRINCIPAL
FOUNDATION/PREP 2016
Enrolments for Foundation 2016 are now open. Due to an
increase in the population of the City of Manningham, local
school protocols are being introduced. Enrolments will be
taken in the following categories.
1. Serpell is the closest or most accessible school.
2. Siblings of current students and children of former
students
3. Residents of Templestowe and East Doncaster
4. Residents of the broader City of Manningham (limited)
Unfortunately we are unable to accept enrolments from
outside the City of Manningham, unless they are in
category 2. If we had this protocol in place previously, we
would have had one class less for Foundation 2015, which
would have been the normal year level enrolment intake.
Foundation Tours for this term are:
th

10am Friday 27 February
th

10am Friday 6 March

10am Wednesday 11th March

10am Thursday 19th March
Bookings are not necessary and further tour dates for
Term 2 will be published before the end of March.
It would be really helpful if all Serpell parents with children
enrolling for 2016 could enrol now, so that we have a clear
idea of how many places belong to category 2. New
families wishing to enrol are exceptionally anxious and we
would like to confirm their places as soon as possible.
XIE XIE (THANKYOU)
We have had a wonderful Chinese New Year with families
being so generous to us. Thank you to the parents of
Gavyn Sanusi–Goh of 2RL, Siany and Joseph, for providing
traditional food for the whole staff on New Year’s Eve as
well as decorating the school foyer and office area. Thank
you also to the parents of Grace Zhu of 2MR, who provided
delicious sushi for the whole staff on New Year’s Day.
Grace also told us exactly what to do on each day of the
Lunar Calendar – when to clean the house, when to
prepare chicken – we are so very grateful to be included in
the celebrations when parents are so busy organising
family celebrations.

contagious for 1-2 days (possibly 5 days)
before the onset of the rash and remains
infectious until the blisters form scabs (usually
around day five of the illness). If your child
develops a rash please see your GP. Children
with Chicken pox must be excluded from

2015 CLASS REPRESENTATIVES NEEDED
Thank you to those of you who have already volunteered to
be Class Rep this year for your child’s class. This is a very
special, valuable and important role that will not only enable
you to become more involved with your child’s class, but
with the school community as a whole.
As a Class Rep all you need to do is to prepare and
distribute your new Class’s Friendship List. You are also
encouraged to arrange at least one social activity per term.
Ideally we need two class reps for each class so this is
perfect to do with a friend, as it is a very easy and
rewarding role.
Class Reps are still needed for the following classes:
1 KH, SC
2 AM, KK, KS, MR, RL
4 BR, BS, JR, TA
5 JT, KB, KD, KJ, NR
6 AF, CK, CN
If you have not already volunteered and would like to do so
please e-mail Dora Demos at dora.demos@bigpond.com
our Class Rep Coordinator with your name, your child’s
name and class and your phone number.
BAKER’S DELIGHT
Baker’s Delight at The Pines will no longer be running the
“Our Dough Raiser” program. However, they will be
donating all the bread for our Father’s Day breakfast later in
the year and for any other events as required. Please
continue to support this local business who are supporting
our school.

opportunity for the effective networking between Chinese

I would like to send a big thankyou for the support of the

STUDENT WELLBEING
Dear Serpell Families,
Last Monday, it was a very happy school day full of
excitement for the whole school community. The Lion
dance, which was arranged by the school for the very first
whole school assembly, lightened up everyone’s eyes and
hearts with joy and excitement.
The Parent's Gathering before the Chinese New Year
Celebration was another success. There was lots of joy
