significant influence on the future of
transportation demand management and its
impact on our surface transportation system.
This year, our eighth ACT Legislative Summit,
is an expanded event that will include

Reagan National Airport.

discussions on day one. These events will be
held at the Almas Center (which is adjacent to
the Hamilton Hotel). We will also continue to
hear from Congressional Leaders on the second
and third day in the Halls of Congress. Finally,
in addition to the meetings we schedule with
your Member of Congress and their staff, we
will also be scheduling a series of meetings
with agency officials to talk about what
Federal agencies should be doing to expand
TDM across the nation and how they can better
partner with you.

Breakout Sessions
Advocacy 101.
10am – Sphinx Room
Does Public Policy confuse you? Do you want to
become engaged, but just don’t know how? Are you
unsure of what is education and outreach and what is
lobbying? Don’t be afraid, you are not alone. In this 50
minute session ACT’s government affairs director will
give you a crash course on civics, showing you the
most effective way to becoming an advocate at all
levels of government. During this session, you will
learn about the process and the players. He will also
explain the difference between education and
outreach versus lobbying and advocacy.
Active Transportation & Safe Routes to School.
10am – Oasis Room
Policy experts from several active transportation
organizations will provide you with an update on the
various Federal and State efforts to support active
transportation, including the Transportation
Alternatives Program as well as the Safe Routes to
School program. During this roundtable, participants
will have a chance to discuss what is new with these
programs as well as hear about efforts to protect these
valuable programs during transportation
reauthorization.
Think Globally, Act Locally.
11am – Sphinx Room
This session will focus on efforts to engage at the local
effort. During the session, you will hear about existing
efforts across the country to promote policies that are
supportive of TDM and transportation. You will also
learn how to leverage your users, members, and clients
in an effort to create and support TDM policies in your
backyard.
TNC’s: Disrupting Force, or New TDM Tool.
11am – Oasis Room
During this roundtable, we will review the ongoing
battle regarding TNCs and local governments. During
this roundtable, we will also discuss the role TNCs
have in supporting TDM and how the industry should
work with these companies.
TDM & Emergency Preparedness.
1pm – Oasis Room
This will be a moderated discussion during lunch.
During this discussion, we hope to share how TDM
plays a role in emergency preparedness and response,
reflecting on recent disasters and looking to build
upon lessons learned.

Getting to Know ACT Policy Positions

Summary of
Breakout Sessions
What is ACT public policy working on and how does it
affect you? These questions and more will be answered
as ACT’s government affairs team will review the
policies ACT is working on, how they will help you, and
how to get the most out of ACT’s public policy
resources. Performance Measures: How Will They TMD Stack Up
2:30pm – Oasis Room
Performance measures are the cornerstone of MAP-21.
This session will recap what is required in MAP-21, how
it will help (or hinder) TDM, and what you can do to
best position yourself for the changes coming.
Where’s The Money?
3:30pm – Sphinx Room
This session will serve to review all of the Federal
funding pots that are available to TDM projects. This
session will review each program, what the rules are,
and more importantly, what you need to do in order to
get your hands on that funding.
Mobility management – Integrating TDM and Transit
3:30 pm – Oasis Room
Technology has changed the way we look at
transportation and transit, however, policies on
transit are more than thirty years old. This session will
dive into the FTA’s mobility management program and
explore ways to integrate TDM and transit.
