BACKGROUND:
World University Service of Canada (WUSC) is a Canadian non-profit organization with a mission
to foster human development and global understanding through education and training. We are a
network of professionals, students, volunteers, faculty, and community leaders who, together,
provide opportunities to some of the world’s most disadvantaged youth. Our programs and
services improve access to and quality of education, expand employment opportunities and foster
empowerment for youth. We work with and through our southern partners – government, civil
society and the private sector.
WUSC invites applications from suitably qualified individuals who wish to be considered for the
role of Senior Financial Analyst. This position will be based in Ottawa with regular
communication/coordination with colleagues in Canada and overseas.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The SFA will have overall responsibility for the financial administration and financial management
of project activities. He/she is expected to provide high professional expertise in the conduct of
financial affairs relating corporate accounting. He/she should possess strong analytical and
financial reporting skills. He or she must be a self-starter; results oriented, enjoy working as part
of a team and willing to travel. Specific responsibilities include:
Financial Accounting:

Hands on responsibility to perform month-end and year-end closings, bank
reconciliations, monthly sub-ledger balancing, review and verification of all payments,
inter-company reconciliation, exchange rate calculations, preparation of month-end
journal entries, and maintaining the chart of accounts for projects.
Budget and Reporting:

Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.

Prepare budget performance and other management reports.

Participate in periodical performance review meetings with key management.

Audits and Internal Controls:

Support Corporate Finance in organizing annual audit of all project activities in
Canada and Overseas including preparation of detailed working papers and
year-end reconciliation.

Participate in internal audits of overseas projects supported by WUSC, Farm
Radio International and MATCH International Women’s Fund.

Ensure implementation of necessary financial controls and due diligence (review
of periodical reports, frequent monitoring visits and internal audits in the field,
etc.).

Ensure all internal controls, IFRS and CRA regulations are followed in the
financial administration.
Financial Reporting and Tax Matters:

Provide strong support to the Chief Accountant in key aspects of financial
reporting and operations.

Assist in the preparation of all annual charity returns and periodical tax rebates
claims.

Monitor consultant contracts and prepare annual T4A slips

Other duties as required.
Financial Monitoring of Overseas Projects:

Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements of project activities
after incorporating the field transactions for the disbursements made for overseas
project operations for project(s) under direct supervision.

Perform financial analysis, prepare donor financial reports that are
comprehensive and meet all requirements specified by the donor.

Review field bank reconciliations and manage cash balances for the projects.

Provide regular variance analysis of project implementation and offer
recommendations for possible improved courses of action to ensure efficient use
of project funds.
QUALIFICATIONS:

CMA/CPA/CGA or equivalent preferred.

A minimum of five (7) years of experience in financial management, corporate
accounting, and project accounting with international operations.

Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains is an asset.

Proficiency in computer skills, spread sheets (Excel), accounting packages (QuickBooks),
and communications packages (MS Word and Power Point).Strong analytical,
communication and problem solving skills.

Capacity to identify and articulate potential problems and provide possible solutions in a
concise and clear manner.

Knowledge of financial management and experience with project implementation.

High level of written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of
French will be a definite asset.
