St. Mary’s University Department of Athletics and Recreation invites applications for the Cross Country
Running Assistant Head Coach Position.
Lightning Athletics is a leader in promoting academic, athletics and personal excellence through the
participation in intercollegiate sports. Our intercollegiate teams compete in the Alberta Colleges Athletic
Conference (ACAC) and within Canada (CCAA). St. Mary’s is seeking an Assistant Coach to help develop
and maintain a competitive program that encourages integrity, sportsmanship, honesty and respect. The
ability to establish positive relationships with student athletes, staff and faculty, peers, media and the
basketball community is essential.
Responsibilities:






Assisting the head coach with developing and maintaining an active, focused recruiting plan
Assisting the head coach with organizing and running practices and attending competitions,
meetings and team functions.
Ability to put coaching theory into practice
Analyzing performance and giving feedback
Supporting and acting in accordance to the strategic directions and initiatives of the Athletics
and Recreation Department and the University as they relate to student athlete support,
fundraising, promotion, budget management, administrative responsibilities, and community
relations
Ensuring the appropriate academic standards of the student athletes are monitored and met

This is a part-time contract position
Qualifications:


The candidate will have a minimum of 1 to 2 years coaching experience (minimally at the high
school or club level)
A minimum of NCCP Level One in Cross Country Running and/or Track and Field is required,
NCCP Level Two is preferred (or must be prepared to complete)
