2015 Aggie Welcome & Orientation Leader Job Description Orientation Leader Job Description The position of an Orientation Leader is one that allows a student to make a substantial contribution to NMSU and potential NMSU students. Orientation Leaders help new students and their families make a positive transition to NMSU. We make every attempt to personalize the orientation experience so that students may feel comfortable about beginning their studies in the fall. Orientation Leaders will: ü Serve as a group leader for discussions and icebreaker activities with students and/or families. ü Serve as a guide and knowledgeable source of information for new students. ü Serve as a role model representing NMSU ü Actively assist new students and their families with their transition to NMSU ü Participate in all Orientation activities ü Attend all Orientation Leader Training Sessions Qualifications: – Be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate NMSU student – Must have completed two consecutive semesters at NMSU by May 2015 – Minimum GPA of 2.75 or better; must be enrolled/or plan to be enrolled for the fall 2015 semester – Must be a member of the NMSU community in good standing and not be on disciplinary or academic probation – Must be available to participate in ALL training sessions and Orientation programs, and work collectively as part of a team to prepare for the Orientation programs. – Relate and interact well with students, parents, faculty, and staff; possess knowledge of NMSU and the activities and services that are available to students. Compensation: ü Two orientation staff shirts will be provided. ü Dinner and/or lunch will be provided on orientation days. ü Hourly wage of $8.50 will be compensated. **Orientation Leaders must work exclusively for NMSU’s Orientation Program for the dates listed on the Mandatory Time commitment sheet. Failure to meet all Orientation Leader expectations/responsibilities will result in termination of employment with AWO. Application Review Process: ü Application materials (completed application form, written essay, (2) reference forms, and signed mandatory time commitment agreement) are due on Friday, March 20th by 4:30pm. ü Individual interviews will take place Monday, March 30th and Tuesday, March 31st. If selected, an AWO staff member will contact applicants to schedule an individual interview time. When you submit your application, your enrollment status and GPA will be verified. 2 2015 Orientation Mandatory Time Commitment Agreement The following dates and times must be agreed upon and committed to in order to be hired as an Orientation Leader. This is sporadic part-‐time employment. If you hold another job during these days and times, you must allow for time off in order to commit to the Orientation Leader position.
