2015 Summer Program Overview:
Lindenwood University students who are semester resident undergraduates and wish to work in order to pay for
the cost of tuition for their classes and/or wish to reside on campus for the summer may apply to participate
in the Work and Learn 2015 Summer Program. This program is designed to help the University prepare for
the upcoming school year and reduce the tuition costs for students in need. This Work and Learn 2015
Summer Program Contract is a financial aid agreement between the student and the University that requires
the student to work the agreed upon number of hours or pay the remaining balance of the tuition cost. The
majority of positions are with grounds, housekeeping, and food service. Students must be able to perform
physical labor, as the majority of positions require lifting, moving equipment, and contact with cleaning
chemicals.
Work and Learn is not guaranteed as the jobs are limited in number and are assigned on a first-comefirst-served basis. No assignments will be made outside of those listed above without the permission of
the Office of Work and Learn and the Dean of Students. This permission must be granted prior to May 1,
2015. There is no transfer option. Students who fail to perform satisfactorily may be terminated from the
program and will be sent to the Business Office to pay their remaining balance, or the student can drop
his/her classes, vacate the campus for the summer, and pay the remaining balance with the Business Office.

Resident undergraduate student
2.00 or higher cumulative GPA
First-semester students must have a 2.00 GPA at spring semester 2015 mid-term in order to apply for
the Work and Learn 2015 Summer Program.
First-semester students who have a mid-term GPA of less than a 2.00 and a final spring Semester
GPA of 2.00 or higher will only be allowed to participate in the Work and Learn 2015 Summer
Program during the second and third sessions, if a position is available. These students may take
a first-session class, but they must make payment arrangements with the Business Office
instead of doing Work and Learn for the first session.
Registered for classes for fall 2015, unless the student will graduate during the summer
Take a 4-week or 6-week class, NO EXCEPTIONS
Be able to work either 112 hours for a 4-week class or 168 hours for a 6-week class
to pay for the cost of tuition
Take a minimum of six credits
Take only one class during a 4-week or 6-week session, with no overlap between classes
(Includes online classes)
Be able to work 28 hours/week, Monday through Friday. Jobs are limited on the weekends
Finish hours during the same session as the class
Have Work and Learn in his/her financial aid package and have completed 80% of spring 2015 Work
and Learn hours as of the date on which the Work and Learn 2015 Summer Contract is submitted
Completed all financial aid requirements for the fall 2015 semester and be current with the Business
Office
Be in good standing with the Work and Learn Office
Be able to perform physical labor (grounds/ maintenance, housekeeping, or food service)
Willing to notify the Work and Learn Office and Office of Residential Life of all class/schedule changes
and of changes to arrival/departure
Willing to keep track of hours worked and hours required (number of hours)
Be able to complete 80% of the required amount of work per session (required to qualify for the LU
Grant). Note: Participants’ work will be applied toward tuition.

Living on campus does not (by itself) qualify a student to participate in the Work and Learn Program.
Athletics scholarships may be given to NAIA athletes and are handled through the Athletic Compliance Office. If a
student is receiving an athletics scholarship, he/she cannot do the Work and Learn section to cover the difference.
Students who cannot physically perform their job will be removed from the program and are responsible for the
remaining balance of University costs.
Students who are academically suspended after the spring 2015 semester will be dropped from any summer session
class that begins before June 3, 2015. If the student successfully appeals suspension, he/she will be permitted to
return for classes that begin on or after June 3.
Students who add a class and wish to participate in Work and Learn in an upcoming session must reapply for available
positions. (There is no job guarantee, and students without a job must make payment arrangements with the
Business Office).
Students are hired for a particular job; transferring is not permitted without the permission of the Work and Learn Office.
Students who fail to work at least 22 hours/week (80% of weekly total) will be removed from the program after
the first week of the session and will not be credited for the LU Grant or hours not worked for the summer.
These students will not be allowed to participate in any following summer sessions.
Students who drop a class are not eligible to remain in the Work and Learn Program for the session they drop.
These students may remain in their room with the permission of the Office of Residential Life and Business Office
and will be charged accordingly.
Applications received after Friday, May 1, 2015, will not be accepted. Students can be approved to take classes, and
they can be enrolled in summer housing, but must pay instead of doing Work and Learn.
There are no excused absences for summer classes. Students should plan work and activity schedules around their
class times.
The University is closed on Memorial Day (Monday, May 25) and the Fourth of July (Friday, July 3) holidays. Students
must arrange their schedule to compensate for these two days. The required number of 112 hours for a 4-week class
and 168 for a 6-week class must still be completed during the session.
To drop out of the Work and Learn 2015 Summer Program, students must check out of the University through the Work
and Learn Office and, if living on campus, must check out through the Office of Residential Life.
Charges
Qualified participating students will work as indicated below:
Resident student taking one class: 28 hours/week covers tuition for class
Single resident students who require room only will not be allowed to participate in the Work and Learn 2015 Summer Program.
Charges:
$1,092 for a single 3 credit hour class
Tuition: $364 per credit hour
$1,456 for a single 4 credit hour class
$1,820 for a single 5 credit hour class
$2,184 for a single 6 credit hour class
Room: $600 for four weeks
Meals: $500 for four weeks
$900 for six weeks ($150/week)
$750 for six weeks ($125/week)

LU Grant
Students who participate in the Work and Learn 2015 Summer Program will receive an LU Grant to help cover the difference in tuition
cost. Students must complete 80% of the required amount of work per session in order to qualify and receive the LU Grant. If a
student is taking three different sessions, the student must complete at least 80% of his/her Work and Learn hours during
each individual class session. If a student completes less than 80% of Work and Learn hours, the student will be required to
pay the difference of Work and Learn hours not completed (at $8 an hour), plus the cost of the LU Grant. The 80% is not the entire
summer session, but per class. Work and Learn hours do not carry from one class session to the next.
Confirmation of Work and Learn 2015 Summer Program
The student will receive an email no later than May 5, 2015, regarding confirmation of the Work and Learn 2015 Summer Program.
Work and Learn 2015 Summer Program Jobs
Below is a list of the Work and Learn 2015 Summer Program jobs. After the student completes the Work and Learn 2015
Summer Program Contract, the student will receive an Employee Contract to be signed by a department supervisor who is
willing to accept the student in the job for the summer. Supervisors will hire on a first-come-first-served basis.

If I drop my class before or during the summer session, I will not be able to stay on campus over the summer unless approved
by the Vice President for Student Development or the Dean of Students. If I stay on campus without taking a class, I am
responsible for paying to stay on campus as I cannot work to stay on campus.

If I do not work the required hours within the term packaged, I cannot make them up in the following term without
permission of the Work & Learn Office and will make the required payment for hours not worked. Hours worked outside my
assigned area will not be accepted without prior approval and signed documentation from the Director of Work & Learn.

I may be terminated from my assignment if I am unable to meet assignment criteria. Upon termination I am responsible for
paying the balance immediately and will be responsible for the remaining summer balance.

When I submit a timesheet for each time period to my supervisor, I have 45 days from the last day of the time period to make
any changes to the time sheet. After 45 days, the time sheet will be official and cannot be changed. After September 30, 2015,
all summer charges are final.

I will properly check out with the Work & Learn Office and Office of Residential Life or I will be responsible for the payments of
the entire summer program charges even if I have completed Work & Learn hours during the summer.

I understand that in order to receive the LU Grant, I am required to complete at least 80% of the hours during the dates of the
