Older Americans Month 2015
Older Americans Month 2015 Older adults have always been a vital part of our society, working hard to ensure a better life for the future generations. Each May, since 1963, Older Americans Month has been celebrated across the country to recognize the importance that older adults have and the contributions that they have made in our communities. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Get into the Act,” focusing on how older adults continue to take charge of their health, engage in their communities, and make a positive impact in the lives of others. This theme also reflects on the 50th Anniversary of the Older Americans Act, signed into law in July 1965. This historic Act put into place a nationwide aging services network and funding that continues to help older adults to remain in their community and live with dignity for as long as possible. While Boulder County has a variety of agencies that provide services, support, and resources to older adults year-round, Older Americans Month offers an opportunity for them to provide specialized information and services highlighting how older adults can access the home and community based services they need to live independently. By promoting and engaging in activity, wellness, and inclusivity, more Americans than ever before can “Get into the Act.” Boulder County Aging and Disability Resources for Colorado (303) 441-1617 City of Boulder Senior Services (303) 441-4388 City of Lafayette GO Services (303) 665-9052 City of Longmont Senior Services (303) 651-8411 City of Louisville Senior Services (303) 335-4919 Nederland Area Seniors (303) 258-0799 Town of Erie Parks and Recreation (303) 926-2795
