Full time, Full benefit position - 37.5 hours/week
The Agency
The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) is a community-based charitable organization dedicated to reducing the incidence
of crime and increasing community safety through preventative and restorative justice practices. To accomplish these
ends, we provide direct services to individuals at risk, advocacy for effective responses to crime with the individuals
involved and education for youth and adults in the community.
The Program
Restorative Actions for Transformation (RAFT) is a collaborative, inter-agency project which links non-profit and
institutional partners in justice, education and community-based agencies with a common goal of offering restorative
programming to youth in our community. In addition to the Calgary John Howard Society, the collaborating organizations
include City of Calgary Community and Neighbourhood Services, Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), and Calgary Family
Services. RAFT offers three different restorative interventions for youth including Community Conferencing, Victim
Offender Dialogue, and Crime Impact Sessions.
The Position
The Restorative Justice Facilitator will function within the RAFT team, and work in an integrated and collaborative way
with the Youth Services Team, wider CJHS Team and the community to ensure participants are provided with an
opportunity to engage in, and are supported throughout, a restorative process. This includes: preparing for and facilitating
an appropriate restorative process; conducting participant evaluations and generating reports; networking with justice
professionals.
Roles and Responsibilities will include:
 Facilitation of restorative interventions;
 Liaise and build relationships with referral sources;
 Provide appropriate links to community services;
 Administer and collect evaluation data;
 Work collaboratively with the RAFT team;
 Actively participate in the Youth Services Team.
The successful candidate will have post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (ie. Human services, social work, etc.),
training in conflict resolution, working knowledge of the values and principles of restorative justice and a minimum of 3
years of experience working with the target population.
