Each year, A Carousel for Missoula gives free rides on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, as our birthday thank you to the community. A BIG birthday like this one calls for a BIG celebration, so we have made some special plans for Kids' Day 2015.
The fun begins with a children's track meet at 8:30am. Participants will be grouped with others their age to compete in a number of fun activities in the grassy field to the west of Dragon Hollow. Each participant will get a t-‐shirt, plus other prizes and goodies. Children must be preregistered by an adult, on or before May 4. Fee is $12 per child. (Track meet volunteers are needed. If you are available to make the morning extra special for the kids, please call Theresa or Julie at 549-‐8382 for more information.)
At 9:30, track meet participants will form a children's parade along the river path to the permanent stage near the Caras Park pavilion. A few words of thanks and welcome will be given, and the children will lead the crowd back to the Carousel for free rides from 10am to 7pm.
During the day, vendors will be on hand with food and beverages, as well as some fun activities like glitter tattoos and photo balloons. Please make plans to join us for some or all of our Kids' Day activities. You are part of the Carousel family, and our party just wouldn't be the same without you.
Gala Dinner and Auction
Thursday, June 18
This year's Celebration Dinner and Auction is also going to be a special event. As much as we love eating tacos in the pavilion in Caras Park on a nice fall evening, we are pretty sure we are also going to love this more elegant affair at the Ranch Club.
Our 20th anniversary dinner and auction will be June 18, beginning at 6pm, at the Ranch Club barn, 8501 Ranch Club Road. John Floridis will entertain. The Ranch Club staff will be serving appetizers during our cocktail hour, followed by a delicious buffet with two entree choices and side dishes. A variety of celebratory cupcakes will be provided by Rosauers to round out the evening.
Wine, provided by Summit Beverage, and a variety of other spirits, including a signature drink courtesy of Montgomery Distillery, will be available for purchase.
There will be a brief but exciting live auction, as well as the customary silent auction. The Ponykeepers have been busy making two gotta-‐have-‐'em rocking animals ~ one is a dragon and the other a copy of Paint, the carousel horse designed by Missoula artist Larry Pirnie. We continue to look for other unique and wonderful live auction items, as well as for a variety of silent auction items. Please call Theresa at 549-‐8382 if you have a donation for either auction, or feel free to drop it off if you are in the area.
Tickets to the event are $100 per person or $175 for a couple. Seating is limited to 150 guests, so please call 549-‐
8382 to reserve space as soon as possible.

Sincere apologies
Buy a tire; feed a pony
In the last issue of this newsletter, we thanked the wrong bank for sponsoring Santa's Breakfast. First Security Bank has been the sponsor of Santa's Breakfast as long as we've had a sponsor. They have been a generous and constant partner in bringing holiday joy to those who attend the breakfast, especially children in out-‐
of-‐home care, who are able to attend for free thanks to the generosity of First Security Bank.
We extend our heartfelt apologies and our thanks to everyone at First Security for their gracious response.
Roemer's Tire Factory has come up with a unique way to keep our ponies going in circles, just like the excellent tires they sell. During May and June, John Roemer and his crew will donate $5 for each tire sold to A Carousel for Missoula.
If you need new tires, please keep this special promotion in mind, to support the Carousel and a wonderful business that supports us.
Thanks to John and everyone else at Roemer's for keeping your tires and our ponies going in circles.
Welcome, Betsy
It's a BANNER year!
A Carousel for Missoula Foundation, Inc. has a new board member, Betsy Grimley. Betsy and her husband, Wayne Chamberlain, have been long-‐time Carousel supporters, and were special consultants for the premiere production of Haunted Hollow. Her beloved, in-‐town grandchildren, who are 7-‐1/2 and 5-‐1/2, began riding the Carousel before they could walk!
Betsy is a physician, working at the Western Montana Clinic urgent care centers at St. Patrick Hospital and Southgate Mall.
We are pleased to welcome Betsy to the board and are grateful for her infectious enthusiasm.
Brewing up funds
Reflecting on our losses
In the last several months, we have lost four people who were instrumental in the creation of A Carousel for Missoula. Each was proud of his or her contribution to the Carousel, and each was essential to its success.
We offer thanks for the lives of Dave Streit, Pat Simmons, Ethel Diettert and Jerry Diettert.
Smile! You're on Amazon
Did you know you can help fund A Carousel for Missoula and Dragon Hollow Playarea while you shop on Amazon.com, and it won't cost you a thing?
Amazon.com has a program called AmazonSmile. When you sign up as an AmazonSmile member, you choose a registered not-‐for-‐profit to receive a portion of the price you pay for the merchandise you order. AmazonSmile remembers your choice and Amazon.com even asks if you want to switch to AmazonSmile when you use their service. It couldn't be easier than that!
Tens of thousands of items at Amazon.com are available on AmazonSmile and the donations to the Carousel can make a big difference when combined with those of other shoppers/supporters.
Next time you visit Amazon.com, check out the information about AmazonSmiles, and bring some smiles to a local not-‐for-‐profit while you shop.
The Carousel's unique link is: http://smile.amazon.com/ch/81-‐0475393.
A banner year like this one deserves, well, banners! During the month of May, banners designed by the talented folks at Montana Marketing Group, and provided for the Carousel by Mike and Jan Peissig and their crew at Alphagraphics, will be blowing in the wind on the Higgins Avenue Bridge.
Many thanks to the talented and generous businesses that make us look good, and make our BANNER year a possibility.
Another wonderful partner in our 20th anniversary celebration is Bayern Brewing. Watch for details about the deal they are brewing up for us.
Among the special items we will be carrying in the gift shop is a special blend of coffee by Hunter Bay. Buy a bag to support a pony.
More about a horse
Our very unique and exciting fall event ~ Let me tell you a story about a horse ~ is still in the planning stages, but it is already evident it will be spectacular.
Caffe Dolce will host the event, and prepare a theme-‐
appropriate dinner, on Sunday, Oct. 4, beginning at 5pm. Randy Cox will provide perfectly paired wines.
Steve Riddle and his band, the Singing Sons of Beaches, will entertain, and Steve will serve as emcee. Mayor John Engen will offer a welcome.
Other celebrities who have agreed to tell stories include Hal Stearns, Tony Incashola and Larry Pirnie.
Watch for more in the next Brass Ring.
Looking good
The windows at the Missoula Mercantile building are currently home to several carousel animals ~ some from A Carousel for Missoula and some borrowed from other owners. Carousel board members John Thompson and Leslie Wustrack, with help from other Ponykeepers, herded the animals over to help let the public know what we have planned to help celebrate our 20th anniversary.
We appreciate those who have allowed us to 'borrow back' the carvings that were made for them.
