ENERGY ASSISTANCE FOR THE 2014/2015 FALL/WINTER SEASON SENIOR & DISABLED HOMEOWNERS’ TAX RELIEF Time is running out…. Income guidelines up to $32,515 for a single person and up to $42,519 for a two person household. Asset guidelines: up to $10,000 for homeowners and up to $7,000 for renters. May 1st is the last day a household can establish eligibility for benefits. Call the Senior Center office for more details. TAX RELIEF FOR ELDERLY AND TOTALLY DISABLED RENTERS The Renter Rebate Program through the State of CT provides a rebate for renters who are elderly or disabled. Applications for the Renters Rebate Program are available starting April 1st and ending October 1st. Please call the Senior Center for an appointment. In order to receive a renter rebate: An applicant or the spouse must be 65 or older; or be 100% disabled (per Social Security); or be 50 and a surviving spouse. Must have lived in Connecticut for 1 year. Total 2014 income which includes Social Security must not exceed: Married $42,200 Single $34,600 Thirty-five percent of the applicant’s annual rent must exceed 5% of the applicant’s income. Proof of income received and rent and utility payments made in calendar year 2014 must be provided. Appointments will be made at Twin Haven and the AHEPA housing complexes. Watch for notices. The State of Connecticut offers an Elderly Tax Credit known as the Homeowners program. In order to be eligible, the applicant must own or hold life use of the property, and the property must be the primary legal residence. In addition, applicants shall be 65 prior to December 31, 2014 or totally disabled if under the age of 65. Information regarding all income received during 2014 including Social Security must be declared under this program. The income limit, including Social Security, is $42,200 for married couples and $34,600 for single persons. Filing dates for the above programs are February 1, through May 15, 2015. Applications available at the Assessor’s Office in the East Lyme Town Hall. There is also a Veteran’s Exemption and a Local Tax Credit Program that is available. For more information, contact the Assessor’s Office. Medicare Savings Program New Income Guidelines Would you like to save $104 a month? Are you on Medicare and paying for your Part B premium? Do you make less than $2413.26 as a single or $3266.88 as a couple per month? March 1, 2015 new income guidelines were developed for the Medicare Savings Program. If you would like more information or would like to apply for this program, call the Senior Center office. Number of seats very limited. Wed, April 8th - Come join us for a luncheon trip to the East Lyme High School put on by their culinary program. Afterwards, we will stop at Salem Country Gardens so you can start your spring planting. Trip fee is $6pp. Lunch only will be $3pp. Departure time is 11:00am — return time around 3:00pm. Registration begins April 1st. Wed, April 22nd - Join us for a luncheon trip to Rein’s Deli in Manchester. Afterwards, we will head to the Promenade Shops at the Evergreen Walk in South Windsor. Trip fee is $4pp. Departure time is 10:30am and return time is around 4:00pm. Registration begins April 1st. DAY TRIPS Registration begins on the dates noted below. Register as soon as you can.
