FUDPUCKERS & LASER FLEET 490 PRESENT 2015 LASER MASTER GULF COAST CHAMPIONSHIP April 25 - 26, 2015 Fort Walton Yacht Club, Fort Walton Beach, Florida NOTICE OF RACE 1. 1.1 1.2 1.3 RULES The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of US Sailing, the rules of the International Laser Class Association (ILCA) and this Notice of Race, except as any of these are changed by the Sailing Instructions or any appendices to the Sailing Instructions. The organizing authority is Laser Fleet 490. The event will be held at Fort Walton Yacht Club, Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Unless a minimum of 15 radial entries are received by the pre-registration deadline, all entrants shall start and finish together and be scored as a single fleet. Competitors may choose Standard, Radial or 4.7 rigs at their discretion, provided that all rig changes are made on shore and all sails have the same number (RigSwapping Rule tuned on). If a minimum of 15 Radial entries are received by the pre-registration deadline, the Radial fleet shall be given a separate start and shall be scored separately from the Standard rig. This changes ILCA Class Rule 27(d) by permission of the International Laser Class Association of North America. 2. LANGUAGE The official language for this regatta will be English. 3. INSPECTION AND MEASUREMENT Sails may be measured prior to racing, and may also be spot checked at any time during the regatta. Note that numbers and letters drawn on the sail with permanent ink pens are not legal. Refer to http://www.laserinternational.org/info/sailnumbersandletters for detailed instructions. 4. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 4.1 Competitors who are members of the International Laser Class Association and who have reached the age indicated in the categories below by April 25, 2015 are eligible to compete. Competitors, who are not members of the ILCANA or their national Laser Class Association, may enter by completing registration with the organizing authority. 4.2 Masters shall be divided into the following categories: Apprentice 35-44 years of age Master 45-54 years of age Grand Master 55-64 years of age Great Grand Master 65+ years of age 4.3 Category shall be determined by competitors’ age on April 25, 2015. 5. RISK It is the competitor's decision to enter the regatta and to start or continue any race. The competitors are ultimately responsible for the risks. The competitor will accept full responsibility for all his/her actions during any activity related to the event. This includes onshore activities before, during, and after the regatta. 6. SCHEDULE 6.1 Maximum of four races per day 6.2 Events: Saturday, April 25 0900-1000 1030 1155 1730 1930 Sunday, June 22 1155 6.3 Onsite registration and check-in. Skippers Meeting. First Warning Signal, races to follow. Yellow Birds at the Gazebo (on the Point) Dinner at Fudpuckers on the Island. First Warning Signal, races to follow Awards Presentation at FWYC following racing No warning signal will be made after 1500 on the final day of the regatta 7. ADVANCE REGISTRATION Competitors may register in advance by printing the attached registration form, completing it, and mailing it with the appropriate fees or register online at Regatta Tech (address at the bottom). 8. 8.1 FEES Required Fees (checks should be made payable to: Fleet 490). The entry fee is $65.00. A late fee of $10.00 will be charged after April 18, 2015. The entry fee includes food and fresh water for the competitors during each race day, dinners on scheduled evenings and a regatta souvenir. 8.2 9. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The sailing instructions will be available at the Skippers Meeting. 10. VENUE AND COURSES 10.1 The racing area will be located on the waters of the Choctawhatchee Bay. 10.2 Courses will be Windward/Leeward as described in the sailing instructions. 11. 11.1 11.2 11.3 11.4 SCORING The Low Point Scoring System of Appendix A will apply except as modified below. Three (3) races must be completed to constitute a regatta. When six (6) races are completed a boat’s worst score will be discarded. The NA Masters handicap system will be in place to determine the overall series winner. For each race counted in the competitor’s final score, add the following points: Apprentices, 3 points; Masters, 2 points; Grand Masters, 1 point; Great Grand Masters, 0 points. Results are recalculated and competitors ranked from lowest to highest score after handicap points have been added. 12 AWARDS 12.1 Trophies will be awarded to the overall winner (lowest score after handicap points) in both the Full and Radial, the top woman finisher in both the Full and Radial, and the top three finishers in each of the four age divisions in both Full and Radial. 12.2 The number of prizes will be adjusted to suit the number of competitors pre-registered in each division. Additional prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the organizing authority. 13 FURTHER INFORMATION 13.1 Airport: The closest airport is Okaloosa Regional Airport. 13.2 Lodging: Special Room Rates are available at Ramada Plaza Beach Resort, 800-874-8962.
