Bach Lent Series - Bringing to a close our Lenten J S Bach
organ series today is his "Dorian" Toccata and Fugue in D
minor, BWV 538. The toccata shows off Bach's use of two
base registrations, or sounds, at the same time. These two
registrations are heard both in response as well as all
together towards the end. The Fugue is opposite in nature
and is both long and complex. It involves a slow and
syncopated fugue subject; there are many examples of
chromaticism and suspensions which help build to a grand
climax at the end. This piece was written between 1708 and
1717, when Bach was working in Weimar.
Confirmation - If you are interested in exploring
confirmation, please contact Michelle or Dagmar; or
come to an informal gathering in church after the 10am
service today.
Easter flowers in the Abbey, please use the purple
envelopes on the South Transept table. If you are a tax
payer, please ensure you complete the GiftAid details
on the envelope.
CTiH Holy Week Gazebo – From Monday to
Thursday of Holy Week there will be a gazebo and stall
outside Hexham Abbey offering people a chance to talk,
to leave a prayer request and to be reminded of the
story of Easter. If you would able to help staff the prayer
gazebo please sign in at: http://tinyurl.com/
holyweeksignupsheet or contact Michelle Dalliston or
June Olliver for details.
Palm Sunday – This year we are meeting with CTiH
at the Bandstand before processing to the Abbey –
bring greenery to wave!
