MATH SQUAD
Sixth graders competed in district-wide math competition on April 11. They did great solving problems and showing
great team spirit. On April 25 our 4th and 5th grade team will compete at North High.
SPRING BREAK ACADEMY
Nearly 150 students attended spring break academy at Keewaydin. It was a great week of STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Math) project based learning.
MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE
Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders are invited to the middle school dance on May 15, from 6:00-8:00. We will walk or
bike from the carnival to Keewaydin to dance the night away! The theme is Old School Hollywood. Interested in helping
chaperone or clean up? Contact Julie Knopp at Keewaydin (Julie.knopp@mpls.k12.mn.us)
EGGS & A PIG
Last week we had a visit from a pig to the third grade classrooms. The third graders are also eagerly watching the eggs in
the incubator and awaiting the arrival of chicks and ducks in their classrooms!
DUCK IS BACK
Every spring a duck family builds a nest in our courtyard. Last year was the first year that the courtyard was contained
and we were glad to help them find their way through Keewaydin School and out the door to Lake Nokomis. The duck
has arrived and has been observed looking for a good spot for the nest. Time for a duck cam?
DOUBLE DUTCH COMPETITION MAY 7
We are excited about our awesome Double Dutch team! They have been practicing all year with Ms. Jones, our health
assistant. On May 7 they will compete with other schools in the district and they will do freestyle, speed, timing, and a
routine. Go team!
3rd & 4th GRADE STUDENT MURAL AT MN WILDLIFE REFUGE
Ms. Croft has been working closely with our third and fourth graders as they create a mural of trees out of recycled paper.
The mural will be on display the refuge for a few weeks in May.
MCA TESTING
All of our students are taking the reading and math MCA test now and testing will continue through mid-May. Fifth and
Eighth grade students will also take the science MCA. Please support all students in doing their best and make every
effort not to take your child out of school during this time.
ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS DAY
Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22nd, is a national day to recognize the hard work of school secretaries. Please take a
moment to say a kind word to Keewaydin secretary, Kristen King.
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
Teacher Appreciation week is May 4th-8th. Please take a moment and tell your child’s teacher what you appreciate about
them.
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION BREAKFAST
We are grateful for our volunteers at Keewaydin. We couldn’t do this important work without you! If you have
volunteered this year, please join us in the Keewaydin Auditorium on Thursday, April 23rd at 8:00 am for our volunteer
breakfast.
STATE HISTORY DAY
Send good vibes to our middle school scholars who will compete at the State History Day event on May 2 at the
University of Minnesota. Thank you to Ms. Monroe and the middle school parent volunteers who are supporting these
students as they make their way to the state competition and beyond!
CHESS CLUB & AFTER SCHOOL
Our Chess Club continues to wow us. There will be no class on April 28. The last chess day is May 12. All after school
classes end on May 14.
