April Newsletter - Lasswade Primary School
LASSWADE PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Living it, learning it, loving it …… Lasswade 30 April 2014 SUMMER TERM P5 CLUBGOLF It has been a very busy two weeks since we returned. All of the children have been learning about money and budgets in our Financial Focus. I have enjoyed getting to know the children and have spent time working with many of the classes. Our P5 pupils participated in Midlothian’s Ryder Cup Clubgolf festival at Hawthornden Primary School last week. They had glorious sunny weather for the event and had the opportunity to participate in a number of golf challenges. Everyone really enjoyed the event. Thanks to all of our parents who volunteered to walk the children to and from the event. We couldn’t have done it without you. P7 CAMP Our P7 pupils are off to Dalguise Camp on Tuesday 5th May for the week, along with other P7 pupils from other primary schools in the area who will be going to Lasswade High School after the summer. This will provide them with a fantastic opportunity to make new friends and to learn new skills. Staff who will be attending camp are Mrs Welsh, Mrs Stevenson, Mrs Paul, Mrs Knox, Mr Henderson and Miss Hadden. Mrs Stevenson’s class will be taught by Mrs McGlade and Mrs McIntyre whilst Miss Hadden’s class will be taught by Mrs Morrow. P7 parents/carers will be sent a text on Friday morning with the children’s expected return time. P6 NEWS Our P6 pupils are currently enjoying their skiing lessons every Wednesday at Hillend ski slope. This block of lessons will continue until 3rd June. Our P6 pupils have also started their Bikeability training with the Learning Assistants on a Thursday afternoon. LASSWADE’S GOT TALENT Our P4-P7 pupils have been auditioning for this year’s Lasswade’s Got Talent. The staff and parents have been really impressed by the standard of talent in our school. The finalists will be announced soon. Please keep Thursday 11th June free for the final. P4 GENERATION SCIENCE WORKSHOP P4 really enjoyed their Body Builder workshop where they participated in lots of different activities and learnt about their amazing body. NURSERY CLASS Some of our Nursery children have been out and about in our local community as part of our Financial Focus. They have been visiting lots of different shops including the bank, a café and a bakers. EUROQUIZ FINAL Good luck to our P6 team who will be representing Midlothian at the final of the Euroquiz at the Scottish Parliament on 11th May with Miss Gilchrist. This is a very prestigious event and we look forward to hearing all about it when they return. NURSERY AND P1 CLASS PHOTOS that staff cannot apply sun cream. The photographer from Tempest will be visiting school on 13th May to take class photos of our Nursery children and our P1 pupils. AND FINALLY… APPOINTMENTS If your child has an appointment during the school day (dentist, doctor etc) you must always come in the first instance to the school office to pick him/her up. Please do not enter the school via the playground or nursery doors. We cannot let any child leave from the playground. If you wish to meet with your child’s teacher then it is best to contact the school office, either in person or by phone or e-mail, to make an appointment. WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK Please remember that the nursery and school is closed on Monday 4th May. We look forward to welcoming all of our pupils and their families back on Tuesday 5th May. Have a lovely long weekend. We are also closed to all pupils (nursery and school) on Thursday 7th May, General Election and Monday 18th May, In-Service Day. CELEBRATING ACHIEVEMENT Well done to Successful Learner Lewis Hamilton, P4Y, who passed his second ‘mon’ Judo grading. He has also overcome his fear and can now confidently dive from the 3m board. Along with other Midlothian schools we will be participating in the national ‘Walk to School Week’ event. This takes place w/b 11th May. We would like to encourage all pupils to walk, cycle or scooter to school. If you and your family do travel by car then we would encourage you to park your car safely and a little further away from school and to walk the remaining distance. Thank you for your on-going support. Congratulations to Summer Clements, P3Y, who completed a 20 mile sponsored cycle to raise money for her friend Jay to go to America for a life changing operation.
