BOWERHAM COMMUNITY PRIMARY & NURSERY SCHOOL Bowerham Road Lancaster LA1 4BS t: 01524 63999 www.bowerham.lancs.sch.uk Headteacher: Mrs Jo Longworth Deputy Headteacher : Mrs Sarah Fisher Office Manager: Mrs Tracey Clark e: head@bowerham.lancs.sch.uk 9th October 2014 Dear Parents/Carers, As you may be aware, the UNISON, UNITE and GMB unions have announced they will be taking industrial action in the form of a strike on Tuesday 14th October 2014. No teaching unions are involved. The action is not against our school, but is part of national industrial action organised by these trade unions against changes to the pension schemes of their members. The decision to close the school or send pupils home is never taken lightly, but in this instance, where staff have elected to take lawful industrial action, we have no choice but to take appropriate steps to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all pupils. We have looked at all possible options and after much discussion planned the only possible outcome. We apologise for any inconvenience these arrangements will cause. If industrial action takes place NURSERY will be CLOSED to all pupils all day. The REST of SCHOOL (reception through to year 6) will be OPEN UNTIL 12 o’clock dinner time. Parents will therefore be required to collect their child at 12 o’ clock. There will be NO dinner service. Please note that Bowerham Kids Club, as a third party provider, will be offering a service from 12 o’ clock. Parents wishing to use this service must contact Suzannah Keeves directly on 07530 367 915. We all hope that the issues over which the industrial action has arisen are resolved as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Yours sincerely, Jo Longworth & Alan Wills Stand tall, reach high, love learning The Bowerham School community is proud to nurture aspiration, inspire love for life-long learning and prepare children for a changing society.
