WORSHIP for the
SEVENTH SUNDAY of
EASTER
MAY 17, 2015 | 10:30 AM
Grounded in the grace of God, we are a vibrant Christian community, disciples of all ages, gathered for worship and nurture,
scattered to serve and to love. -MPC Mission Statement adopted by the Session March 31, 2008
Welcome to Morrisville Presbyterian Church
your child is ready to return to the sanctuary for you
to continue to worship together.
WE WELCOME GUESTS AND VISITORS to our
worship service today. If you are not a member, we
invite you to consider membership with us. If you
would like more information about how we can
serve you, please speak to a pastor.
PASTORAL CARE REMINDER—Members of the
staff truly want to be attentive when members or
friends of MPC are experiencing health
difficulties. If you (or a family member) have been
admitted to a hospital, please let us know by
contacting the church office, and one of the pastors
will be pleased to visit. You may also reach the
pastors on their mobile phones–Bruce Ballantine at
304-914-2108 and Debbie Heffernan at 267-3420089. Thank you for your assistance.
FRIENDSHIP PAD: During the Words of Welcome,
please pass the Friendship Pad to the outside aisle
and back again to the center. This allows worshipers
to recognize people in their pew, and helps staff
members identify those who may need attention.
THE CHANCEL FLOWERS are offered to the glory
of God and in loving memory of Ray and Agnes
Slover, given by Nancy, John, Erin and Sarah
Kernan. They are also offered in loving memory of
Bill Godshalk on his 49th birthday from his mother,
Grace Godshalk. God Bless America.

PRELUDE
WORDS of WELCOME
Pastor Heffernan
MINUTE for MINISTRY—Vacation Bible School & Safe Child Update Susan Light & Nancy McHenry
INTROIT—Come, Let us Sing! (WAGNER)
The Chancel Choir
Come, let us sing and make a joyful noise to God! Come let us sing!
CALL to WORSHIP
Alexander Vincent
One: I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever;
All:
with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
One: I declare that your steadfast love is established forever;
All:
your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
One: You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to
my servant David: ‘I will establish your descendants forever, and build
your throne for all generations.’”
All:
Praise the Lord!
*HYMN 430 —Come Sing, O Church in Joy!
DARWALL’S
148TH
*PRAYER of CONFESSION—Unison
Alexander Vincent
Lord, you are a God who keeps promises. In our prayers and songs we say
that we want to be Christians, but then we forget our promises. Our actions
do not match up with our words. We say mean things to other people, we hurt
their feelings, we think of ourselves first, and, worst of all, we ignore you.
Lord, forgive us and hear our prayer for Jesus’ sake. Amen
*SILENT PRAYERS of CONFESSION
Here each worshiper may offer silent prayers of confession.
*RESPONSE HYMN 304—Jesus Loves Me (JESUS LOVES ME)
The Congregation
*ASSURANCE of FORGIVENESS
Lizzie Stoner
One: Hear the good news! The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to
everlasting. I declare to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
3
All:
May the God of mercy, who forgives us all our sins, strengthen us in all
goodness and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life.
Amen.
*RESPONSE to GOD’S PARDON 567—Glory Be to the Father
GLORIA PATRI
*THE PEACE
One: The peace of Christ be with you.
All:
And also with you.
One: Let us greet one another with the peace of Christ.
Max Dous
As a sign of their reconciliation in Christ, the people share the peace of Christ, greeting one another
with these or similar words: “The peace of Christ be with you,” “Peace be with you,” or simply, “Peace.”

ANTHEM—The Lost Boy (KEMP)
Caroline Stover
The Agape and Cherub Choirs
Jesus, where are you? The night will soon be here. Jesus, please answer! How could you disappear? Oh, have you seen
our Jesus? Did he walk with you? This is the end of the caravan. We're frightened! What can we do? No, we haven't seen him,
not anytime today. No, we haven't seen your boy; could he have lost his way? We must hurry back to Jerusalem, though its
many miles from here. He may be lost, he may be harmed! Our hearts are heavy with fear! Oh, have you seen our Jesus a boy about this tall? We have called and searched and prayed - did he pass by this market stall? Mary, dear Mary, there's
one more place one more -The temple, the temple! Why didn't we go there before? That's where Jesus loved to go; that's where he
might be. Lets hurry to the temple now! Come quickly, come with me! Yes! There he is! Thanks be to God! He's talking with
teachers - let's hurry! With hearts full of joy, they ran to their boy. They hugged him with tears overflowing. Why were you worried?
Why were you weeping? Did you not know that I would be here, here in my Father's house, to the temple's glory, to tell of
God's love story? Did you not know that I would be here, here in my Father's house, here in my Father's house?
TIME for YOUNG DISCIPLES —Presentation of Bibles
EPISTLE READING—2 Timothy 1: 1–14 (New Testament, page 199)
One: This is the Word of the Lord.
All:
Thanks be to God.

*AFFIRMATION of FAITH (APOSTLES’ CREED, ECUMENICAL VERSION)
Avery Gardner
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in
Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died,
and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he
ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will
come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the
holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
PRAYERS of THANKSGIVING and SUPPLICATION
Andrew Neiman
Dear God, Thank you that you hear us when we pray. Thank you for giving us our families, brothers, sisters, moms and dads,
grandmoms and grandpops, thank you for aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends and everyone we know. Thank you for our pets,
4 cats, the earth, and for the spring. Thank you for food and drink, especially broccoli. Thank you for shelter and clothing.
Thank you God, for you. Lord God, we pray for the people who love us and the people around us. We pray for our grandmas,
especially Hope, Granddad and cousins. For grandma Bubby and for grandparents who have died. We pray for the art teacher,
and gym teacher and for people who have Downs Syndrome and those who have autism. We pray for people in the military and
other people who protect us. We pray for an end to war and terrorism. We pray that world leaders would work for peace. We pray
for an end to homelessness, world hunger and cancer. We pray that people will take care of the earth. We pray for people who
do not know you. Lord, we know that you are in control. Help us to trust in you and to be kind and helpful to all people. Amen.

I may not be all that you are, I may not be a shining star, but what I am, I thank the Lord for making me His child. Thank you
Lord for hearing every prayer, thank you Lord for just being there, thank you Lord, for I am not worthy of your love.
So don’t use me or abuse me, for I am His child. Don’t tease me, or mistreat me, for I’m still His child.
You can even talk about me, but I’m still His child.

BRING A CANDLE ON PENTECOST
On Sunday, May 24, during the 10:30 a.m. worship
service we will celebrate Pentecost – the day the
Holy Spirit appeared in Jerusalem in the form of
wind and flame, giving birth to the Christian
church. As part of our Pentecost observance, we
are asking each worshiper to bring a small candle
to be placed on a table in the front of the sanctuary. During the reading of the Pentecost story
(Acts 2:1-21) at the beginning of the service, the
candles will be lit, thus symbolizing the coming of
the Holy Spirit. Please bring a votive or small candle of any color. Thank you.
YOUTH IN MISSION
Please come support the Youth in Mission car wash
and bake sale today! Also, we are selling Stock Certificates before and after the worship service each
Sunday in the Communication Center. These certificates entitle you to a postcard from the team while
they are away and an invitation to hear about their
trip when they return. The cost? Well that’s the
great part about these certificates – they cost as
much as you are willing to give! Please support the
youth in mission trip as they prepare to do God’s
work in Pipestem, West Virginia. As well, you will
be supporting the spiritual journey of more than 35
youth.
