A MESSAGE FROM ARCHBISHOP HART
Denis Hart, Archbishop of Melbourne and President of the Australian Catholic Bishops
Conference, has expressed his deepest sympathies today to the families of Andrew
Chan and Myuran Sukumaran following their executions in Indonesia.
‘Today, I assure both families that you are in my thoughts and prayers. The imposition
of the death penalty doesn’t achieve what people think it achieves....When it comes to
crime and punishment, we must recognise and honour the human dignity of both
victims and offenders….As a community, Australians and our international friends must
have a commitment to respect and protect the dignity of every human life, even those
who do great harm. Andrew Chan, Myurun Sukumaran and their families will be in my
prayers.’
PPC REPORT
The PPC met at St Anne’s on Wednesday April 29. Matters discussed included the
final formal canonical unification of the parishes of St Anne’s and St Bede’s. Significant
savings and efficiencies will occur when this happens. Members of the PPC will speak
at Masses in the near future to discuss this with the whole parish. A public meeting is
scheduled at St Anne’s on May 28 at 7.30pm to discuss the Master Plan for the three
sites of the parish. Other matters discussed included the use of Parish Resources and
Assets, the interim Stewardship Campaign and the Sunday Evening Mass Trial. The
major community social event and fundraiser in 2015 will be an International Dinner to
be held at Genazzano College on August 21. Please note this date in your diaries.

picture of Mass attendance in the Archdiocese. This annual count taken in May is
important for the pastoral planning activities of the Archdiocese and allows for
comparison to be made across the years.
