Attachment Aware Schools Programme uni-fi A Safe Space, a Nurturing Learning Community Derbyshire’s Virtual School wants to work in parthership with you to raise understanding of the issues faced by Children in Care and vulnerable learners. We have developed an exciting and innovative year long programme described below. ATTACHMENT AWARE AWARD SCHEME TAUGHT PROGRAMME Developing a Derbyshire recognition award for good practice in schools and settings Led by the Virtual School and nationally acclaimed trainers from Kate Cairns Associates (KCA) FREE Ignition Event An innovative programme with a unique resulting award for all schools ACTION RESEARCH Action research projects in selected schools and settings Support from a Project Associate in each school and setting Bursaries available to resource your school project Development of best practice examples Tangible school improvement through the projects Attachment Theory and good practice explored FREE year long programme for selected schools Adding to the national debate on improving outcomes for Children in Care Be the first schools to obtain this award For further information contact the Virtual School on 01629 538020 or email: virtualschool@derbyshire.gov.uk Lizzie Watt - Assistant Head Teacher: Innovation & Learning Dr Paul Kelly - Specialist Senior Educational Psychologist Attendance at the Ignition event on April 17th is a pre-requisite to being on the whole programme. Attachment Aware Schools Programme uni-fi A Safe Space, a Nurturing Learning Community IGNITION EVENT - 17th April 2015. The Whitworth Centre, Darley Dale, Derbyshire. The Attachment Aware Schools Programme is a year long partnership project with schools and settings working with Derbyshire’s Virtual School. The programme starts on the 17th April 2015 for ALL schools and settings at the Whitworth Centre, Darley Dale and on this first day further details will be explained about how you can apply to be part of the full programme. Dates for the full programme are - Ignition Event on 17th April and the following workshop days: 21st May , 26th June, 16th September, 20th October and 20th November Part of the selection for the whole programme will be to ensure that 2 members of your staff will attend 100% of the training and then lead a supported action research project back in your school or setting plus share your findings with the Virtual School to the whole Derbyshire learning community. Bursaries will be available for selected schools to resource the action research project work. About the speakers Kate Cairns is an author, speaker and trainer with an international reputation for her work around attachment, trauma and resilience, particularly in relation to vulnerable children and young people. She was a foster carer for twentyfive years, and a social worker for forty years. Chris Stanway has decades of experience in state secondary schooling, including working as a SENCO and running an inclusion unit within a mainstream school. With Kate Cairns, she has written about the nature and effects of trauma on children’s development, and the devastating effect it can have on a child’s education. About KCA For over twenty years Kate Cairns has been turning research and theory about trauma and attachment into knowledge that has changed lives. Kate Cairns Associates take this applied knowledge and understanding and making it available through training and consultancy.
