February 2013
This year, instead of exchanging gifts for Christmas, Mrs. Stockman’s and Miss Contreras’s 2nd grade classes did something a little bit different. There are many local charities and organizations that are in desperate need of financial support, especially this time of year. One thing that teachers really try to instill in the students during Christmas season is the importance of giving, even if you receive nothing in return. Mrs. Stockman and Miss Contreras thought it would be nice instead of the classroom gift exchanges, to collect donations from the students to be given to a charity or organization of the students’ choosing. The students voted and Corinne T. Smith Animal Shelter in Brownwood won the vote. They gave the students an opportunity to bring a donation of up to $5 or any food item they wished to donate to the shelter. Some students were even bringing $20 of their own money!! On Wednesday, December 19, 2012, the Director of the shelter came to Early Primary School to accept our donation. She was overwhelmed at the generosity of our sweet students and their willingness to give to those in need this Christmas. The students collected a total of $210 and several bags of animal food. What a wonderful opportunity and experience this was for all of the children as well as parents involved!! We were blessed to have the chance to make such a difference in our community. A BIG thank you to the 2011-2012 PTC for their generous donation of funds used to purchase a classroom set of Netbooks along with a cart. This allows students to have a portable computer lab that can be used in any classroom. Also donated (2012-2013 PTC) were several high quality playground balls. Each grade level (Pre-K through 2nd) were provided a set of playground balls for their use during recess and a storage bag for the balls. The students have really enjoyed them!
