February 2013
This year, instead of exchanging
gifts for Christmas, Mrs. Stockman’s and Miss Contreras’s 2nd
grade classes did something a
little bit different. There are
many local charities and organizations that are in desperate
need of financial support, especially this time of year. One thing
that teachers really try to instill in
the students during Christmas season is the importance of giving,
even if you receive nothing in return. Mrs. Stockman and Miss Contreras thought it would be nice instead of the classroom gift exchanges, to collect donations from
the students to be given to a charity or organization of the students’
choosing. The students voted and
Corinne T. Smith Animal Shelter in
Brownwood won the vote. They
gave the students an opportunity
to bring a donation of up to $5 or
any food item they wished to donate to the shelter. Some students
were even bringing $20 of their
own money!!
On Wednesday, December 19,
2012, the Director of the shelter
came to Early Primary School to
accept our donation. She was
overwhelmed at the generosity of
our sweet students and their willingness to give to those in need
this Christmas. The students collected a total of $210 and several
bags of animal food. What a wonderful opportunity and experience
this was for all of the children as
well as parents involved!! We were
blessed to have the chance to
make such a difference in our community.

A BIG thank you to the 2011-2012 PTC for
their generous donation of funds used to
purchase a classroom set of Netbooks along
with a cart. This allows students to have a
portable computer lab that can be used in
any classroom.
Also donated (2012-2013 PTC) were several
high quality playground balls. Each grade
level (Pre-K through 2nd) were provided a
set of playground balls for their use during
recess and a storage bag for the balls. The
students have really enjoyed them!

the feelings associated

Jump Rope for Heart is
scheduled for Friday,
February 15th. Gary

Early Elementary Robotics teams competed on Saturday, January 12, at the Area 15 Robotics
Meet in San Angelo, Texas. The Robo Turtles, made up of 5th grade students Brent Grooms, Kiah Laborn, Nathan Mitchell, and Timothy Smith placed seventh out of 54 teams. The other competing teams,
the Exploding Atoms made up of 4th graders Joshua Acker, Tyler Anglin, and Damion Smith, the Runaway Robots made up of 5th graders Payton Bartlett, Kaitlyn Godfrey, Madison Green, and Raegan
Johnson, and the Phoenixes made up of 5th graders Bo Hunter, Morgan Kent, Ryan Lamond, and 4th
grade student Tenlee Kelcy, also did a great job representing Early. We are proud of our Little Longhorns!
Mrs. Henry’s 5th grade math
class is learning to help the
world while also improving
their math skills. They are continuing a recycling program
began several years ago. Each
Friday the students collect the
paper and magazines that
have accumulated over the
past few weeks, and take
them to the recycling center.
Before they are taken, the
students use their math skills
to practice...addition, graphing, median, mode, range,
estimation, and measurement.
During the first semester, the
students collected and recycled 302 pounds of paper and
32 pounds of magazines.

January is designated as School Board Recognition Month. At the regularly scheduled
EISD January School Board meeting on January 21, 2013, EISD took the opportunity to
thank these local leaders for devoting time to support public education and serve the students and staff of the Early Independent School District. Each board member received a
Certificate of Appreciation from the school district. An appreciation dinner was provided
by the EHS Culinary Arts class and the EISD Food Service Department.
EISD board members pull together as a team toward a common goal – helping the students achieve. Their love of learning and
concern and caring for students, staff, and
the community drive board members’ desire
to ensure every student can succeed.
Thank you, EISD board members, for your
time and support!
**The Culinary Arts students competed in the Cupcake Wars in Allen,
Texas, and won 1st and 2nd places
as well as an award for Best Icing.
**Congratulations to all of our
students who competed at the
Brown County Youth Fair! As always, they made a great showing!
**Recently our students competed
in Area 15 Robotics Meet and
earned several awards. The Elementary robotics team placed 7th.
Middle School placed 3rd, 4th, and
5th.
**Congratulations to the 18 new
members who were inducted into
the National Honor Society!
As you can see, the second semester is off to a great start and we
expect great successes as the semester continues!
