Free Football Sessions provided by Positive Futures during the
summer holidays every week for 8 – 12 year olds from 4 – 5pm
and 13 – 18 year olds from 5 – 6pm.

These sessions are free of charge

UFEY
Youth club drop in sessions for 8 – 19 year olds to be held at the
Culver Centre, Daiglen Drive, South Ockendon on Monday
afternoon 4 – 5pm 8 – 11 yrs; 5 – 6pm 12 yrs and upwards.
Come along and have some fun and help us plan for ‘youth
summer’ on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays over the
summer from 12 – 4pm.
Activities will include playstation, table tennis, Singstar, football,
netball, basketball, Kwik cricket, internet access and much more.
Why not come along to our coffee bar, where we will have Fruit
smoothies, cheese and ham toasties, fruit shoots, cereal bars and
more.

Grangewaters
Visit Grangewaters for healthy outdoor activities and fun.
For school children and young people aged 8 – 16 years.
Acti–fun is held throughout the school holidays: Easter, spring
half term, summer holidays and October half term.
Weekdays only, no Bank Holidays.
Each day has varied options which include: Kayaking, archery,
raft building, dinghy sailing, canoe raft, fun boards, team
building, assault course, high ropes course, abseiling, climbing.

Summer Holiday Programme
mer just got fun!
Impulse Leisure's ActivKids Summer Programme is
available between 23rd July – 31st August for all
children aged 8 – 16 years old. This programme has
a whole host of activities available on Mondays,
Wednesdays & Fridays including team based games
such as rounders, football and dodge ball to inflatables, floats and
jet skis in the pools. In addition to this programme there will be
hourly sessions run throughout the week from as little as £2.50
including scuba diving (try dives), junior gym sessions that will
include mini challenges, personal training sessions within our Kinesis
Studio, junior aerobic classes including street jazz, ultimate fighter
sessions, fun circuits plus many more.
The daily prices for this summer programme are:

Due to the popularity of this programme we advise that you book your

Libraries this summer
Join in this year’s Summer Reading
Challenge from 21st July to 15th
September in all Thurrock Libraries.
It’s free and open to all children at school.
Read 6 or more books spread over the
summer holidays and win a medal and
certificate.
Along the way collect your wild flower
seeds to make Thurrock bloom, the
amazing bookmark, fridge magnet and
smelly stickers.
Make a difference to the environment
Collect ‘tree tokens’ for every book you read. The more books
read, the more trees will be planted by The Woodland Trust in
woods throughout the UK in the autumn.
Lots of new and interesting books to try, stories and facts,
poetry and jokes. Books for every age group.
Special RSPB activity sessions in Corringham, Grays and
Belhus libraries for 11–14 year olds.

Community Forum
South Ockendon Community Forum is delighted to announce
their Summer Football Programme for Primary School age
children.
Booking forms will be distributed to Schools shortly. Please

Special Needs
Activity Club (SNAC)
SNAC aims to provide opportunities for young people and others
who have physical and/ or learning difficulties by the provision of
programmes of educational, recreational and social activities.
Activities this summer include trampolining, sailing, archery,
kayaking, raft building, bowling, theatre trips, toy construction,

course, swimming and many more.

Thurrock Play Network
Thurrock Play Network (TPN), with funding from local
Community Forums, will be working in parks and open spaces
throughout the summer holiday. They have, in conjunction with
Orchards Community Forum organised 2 dates in August for
their Open Access Holiday Play Schemes.
Young people up to the age of 18 can come along and join in
the fun taking part in all sorts of activities. The fun starts at
12pm and ends at 3pm.

These open access Outdoor Play sessions are free and will
provide a full range of sports, games and craft activities led by a
team of experienced playworkers.

Hero’s Saturday
Activities Club
Dads, granddads, foster dads, male carers and their children are
invited to join the HERO’S Club and take part in a full range of
craft, cooking, games and sports activities this summer.
The clubs will be based in South Ockendon, Aveley and
Purfleet Children’s Centres each club will be open twice a
month from 11am to 2pm.
Each session costs £1 for Adults and £1 for each
accompanied child, lunch and all the activities are included
in the price (everyone will make their own lunch!)
These clubs will enable fathers/male carers to spend some quality
time with their children. Whilst the rest of the family take part in
these activities mum will have an opportunity to have time to
herself or do the weekly shop without the family in tow.

Summer Internetball
Fun Camp
Internetball are pleased to bring one of their popular camps
to Thurrock. The camp will include skills and games to help
you improve your netball and have lots of fun.
England under 17 Head Coach, Mavericks Youth Assistant
Coach & Ex–England Development Player Jo Munnion will
be accompanied by experienced players and coaches to help
the young players develop.
These camps are aimed at club and school team players that
wish to extend their skills, meet new people and play lots of
netball.

Egg Buggy Challenge
Design a remote control buggy with Steve Merrill, who appeared
on the TV show Robot wars, until it is capable of catching an
egg that can be suspended into the air. Race the buggy around
an obstacle course, including a tipping ramp and a two wheel
raised track, which could cause the buggy to tip and the wall of
death where the buggy drives vertically up a wall. Test your
driving skills to the full, whilst at the same time keeping the egg
safe. Then have a full speed race to the end.
Remember, if you smash the egg you clear it up!
There are morning sessions (9.30am – 12.30pm, 6 – 10 yrs) and
afternoon sessions (1.30pm – 4.30pm, 11 – 16 yrs).

Robots Workshop
A school engineering development from Steve Merrill – create a
champion robot 2004. Why not adapt Steve’s robots to tackle
challenges and even a football match. Teams have to decide how
to modify the robots and actually carry out the work themselves.
It is all about teamwork and keeping a cool head, it’s not about
how fast you can go but skill in driving and missing the
obstacles. The challenges are timed

Blues Brothers Revival
Performances at the Thameside Theatre 21st & 22nd August.
Calling all Blues Brothers and Soul Sisters aged 13 – 19! This is
the official Blues Brothers musical and the show’s worldwide
producers will be regularly looking in on this production, as a
prelude to producing their own professional national tour. A tight
rehearsal schedule will require the most dedicated singers,
dancers and musicians and of course, the search is on for our
very own Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues! Everybody needs
somebody and we need YOU!!

Purple People Group
Performance at the Thameside Theatre 29th August.
Inspired by the amazing sounds of the world-famous Blue Man
Group, the Exhibit:A(rts) partnership is proud to present Purple
People Group.
Suitable for all levels of musical ability from complete novice to
rock genius, Purple People aged 13 – 19 will fuse together wacky
junk percussion, wailing rock instruments, inspired digital
sampling and slapstick comedy acting, on mission to create a
brand new show. If loud and crazy are your kind of thing, then
make sure you bag the unique chance to go a little bit purple
this summer.

Unplugged
Open-mic performances in the Thameside Theatre
25th July and 15th August. Show starts at 7pm.
Unplugged is back for two performances over the
summer. For those of you who missed this highly popular
event in it’s regular days, Unplugged is an informal, openmic concert suitable for young musicians who want to try
out their latest numbers in front of an audience. Acoustic
instruments or backing tracks only. All performers will
need to book their slot in advance.
Who For: Ages 13-19, young musicians in search of an
audience. This time it’s bigger and better than ever as
it will take place in the main auditorium and not the
foyer as previously

Hey DJ!
These workshops will teach you the basics of being a DJ, using
professional CD-based equipment. Bring your own favourite
tracks along and learn new skills such as scratching, beatmatching, mixing and sampling, while playing the music that you
love. You will also have the opportunity to fuse your new-found
talent with music that you create yourself and you can even
digitally record what you do to any USB memory device.

Bronze Arts Award
The Arts Award system is a new set of qualifications for young
people, similar to the Duke of Edinburgh scheme but based
entirely within the arts. At Bronze level, young people will take
part in any art form and form a basic personal plan for
development within that art form. They will also attend an arts
event as an audience member and reflect and discuss what they
have seen. The Bronze award is a great addition to any of the
Exhibit:A(rts) summer activities or works just as well to support
any other personal arts interest an individual may have.

Fashion Sketchbook
Fashion sketchbook will develop your skills as a designer. Learn
how to find inspiration all around you and how to visually
interpret almost anything into the starting point for exciting and
original fashion designs. This is exactly how all professional
designers bring new ideas into their work. You will need to bring
your own sketchbook (A4 or larger) and some basic drawing
equipment.

How to book
Exhibit:(A)rts workshops
Workshop places are limited so it is vital that you book your place.
You will need your name and Summer Passport number and the
name of the workshop/shops that you wish to take part in.
The number to call for booking is the Exhibit:A(rts) office on

All the team are involved in being out and delivering activities, so
you may have to leave a message but someone will return your call
as soon as possible.
You can also email your booking request to

number if booking by email.

Get your summer
passport right here!
The Summer Passport has a one off charge of £10 which is
payable when you attend your first workshop session, however
you will need to complete and return the application form before
the holidays start. You can return your form by putting it in the
special box provided at the box office desk in the foyer of the
Thameside building. You can also return your form to your local
Thurrock Youth Worker.
Make sure that before you return your application, you detach
your Summer Passport card. You will need the Summer Passport
number to make any bookings and you will also need to bring
the card with you to any activities.
Remember:
• Return the application form to the Thameside Theatre or
your local Thurrock Youth Worker before the holidays start.
• Detach and keep the Summer Passport on this form and bring
it with you.
• You will need to pay £10 for your Summer Passport at your
first session.
Make sure you cut out and keep this passport, so
you can use it to book Exhibit:A(rts) activities this
summer. It has a unique number which matches
your application form.

Exhibit:A(rts) partnership (Thurrock Council Youth Services and
Alchemy Creative Communications) and will never be passed to
third parties.
I understand that all the staff engaged in the programme have
been subject to CRB checks.
I understand that the Summer Passport scheme incurs a single
payment of £10 per young person, which is payable at the time
of first activity session attendance. The Summer Passport is
relevant to Exhibit:A(rts) activities and to all other Thurrock Youth
Service activities between 23/07/07 and 31/08/07.
I understand that certain activities will incur additional expenses
and that these will be stated in advance.
I understand that any continued inappropriate, disrespectful or
disruptive behaviour on the part of the young person named
overleaf, will result in one official verbal warning to both the
young person and the parent/guardian, leading to an instant
dismissal from the programme if the behaviour then continues.
A dismissal will be signed off by two members of staff who have
witnessed the behaviour. No refunds will be given.
