(Mapping, abandoned, etc.) Source: Common Ground Alliance – 2012 DIRT Analysis Neighbourhood Safety Patrol • Utilities partnered with Sask 1st Call to launch a Neighborhood Safety Patrol Program • Objective: Increase awareness about buried lines that could be damaged during typical backyard activities • Proactively look for digging activity - This approach has not been done by these companies in the past Neighbourhood Safety Patrol • The Utilities issued a Request For Proposal to contract the work • Proponents needed to demonstrate their Approach, Methodology and level of Personnel Experience • Maxim Energy Corp. awarded the contract • Maxim’s employees have worked in this industry for decades; ensures the message is delivered with credibility Neighbourhood Safety Patrol • Program runs May 1st until October 31st • In 2014, newly developed neighborhoods in Regina and Saskatoon areas are targeted • May expand to other areas in future years Neighbourhood Safety Patrol • Patrollers DO: Travel in marked Sask 1st Call vehicles, wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and identification Check that locates have been requested and completed before digging projects begin engage the digging community in meaningful dialogue around safe digging practices • Patrollers DO NOT locate facilities More Than Just Patrolling • Much activity is done to support and promote the program: Saskatchewan Common Ground Alliance support Media Releases in Regina and Saskatoon regions (May, July, Sept) Mid-campaign media event with community barbecue Breakout session at CCGA Symposium October 2014 To be featured in national Damage Prevention Professional magazine - 2Q 2015 Television interviews and radio station shout-outs More Than Just Patrolling • Support Materials provided: Sask 1st Call brochures and contact information Major contractor offices and rental stores visited Hats and pencils with Sask 1st Call messaging distributed White lining kits for those who are planning their work area Measuring the Program • Collectively, the Utilities have a 25% reduction in line hits YTD August 31, 2013 = 476 line hits August 31, 2014 = 359 line hits Measuring the Program • Patrollers contacted 964 contractors or homeowners to discuss safe dig practices in five month period Total Contact – May 1 through October 31 75% Contractors 18% Homeowners 7% Rental Stores Measuring the Program • Patrollers track the status of locate requests 80% of Contractors and Homeowners had locates requested or completed for work area Of those who did not have locates and were ready to work, 43% requested locates after speaking with Patroller Observations from Maxim Energy Questions or Comments? Regionally approved BP changes forwarded to NBPC using CCGA BP Form a minimum of 60 days before the next scheduled NBPC meeting. Transaction record (TR) to be opened. BPs posted in English & French on CCGA website for 60 day review period by individuals RBPCs. NBPC reviews proposal & seeks consensus. Disposition of proposed changes to be communicated to RBPC submitting the change, within 30 days of the NBPC meeting.
