Turun kauppakorkeakoulu Turku School of Economics THEORIES AND RESEARCH IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS Niina Nummela Turun kauppakorkeakoulu Turku School of Economics THE COURSE IN A NUTSHELL • The course gives an overview of the main theories and contemporary research approaches which are applied within the field • Doctoral level course of 6 ECTS – a certificate is provided after completing all assignments satisfactorily • pre-assignment (accept/fail) • final report • Compulsory presence at lectures • Grading 1 to 5 Turun kauppakorkeakoulu Turku School of Economics LEARNING GOALS • During the course students read, analyze, and discuss research publications in international business and develop skills in scientific argumentation and writing. • The course aims to facilitate designing of doctoral theses in international business. • The course should give a good platform to formulate research problems and start doctoral research in the international business field Turun kauppakorkeakoulu Turku School of Economics INSTRUCTIONS FOR FINAL REPORT • • • • Topic: related to your own (research) interest Objective: to reflect your learning during the course Length: 15-20 pages, with 1,5 spacing and normal margins Different approaches • to identify a research gap and motivate the research topic • theoretical positioning of the study • state-of-the art review of selected research field • • • • Discussion paper conference paper Submission by e-mail to riikka.harikkala-laihinen@utu.fi Deadline for submission: December 1st, 2015 Comments for the paper by e-mail Turun kauppakorkeakoulu Turku School of Economics EVALUATION SCALE FOR THE FINAL REPORT 5 excellent, well-written paper which shows that the author has familiarized him/herself with the research area and uses literature extensively 4 good paper, but either the structure could be significantly improved or some central points of research are missing or misunderstood 3 satisfactory paper, which suffers from problems in both the structure and the content and includes only limited use of relevant literature 2 the paper suffers from serious shortcomings but does reflect the student’s learning during the course 1 the paper has serious shortcomings and does not really reflect the student’s learning during the course 0 the paper cannot be accepted Turun kauppakorkeakoulu Turku School of Economics THANKS!
