2010 Tour and Networking Program Preview Welcome to the Mile High City Friday, March 12, 2010 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. $44.00 Your adventure begins with a visit to Colorado’s spectacular Capitol building in the heart of the city. Modeled after our nation’s capitol, the dome is leafed with gold and the steps at the front of the building feature an official altitude marker where you can stand exactly one "Mile" High! The next stop will take you to The Brown Palace Hotel, which was completed in 1892. The building is a remarkable example of Victorian architecture, based on the Italian Renaissance style, and is listed on The National Registry of Historic Places. Your tour winds up with the best part of Downtown Denver, Lower Downtown, or “LoDo”, as the locals call it. This beautiful area was once home to the turn-of-the-century “red-light” district and now includes Coors Field (home of the Colorado Rockies), The Pepsi Center (home of the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets), and Larimer Square, which brims with trendy stores, delectable restaurants and a hopping nightlife. This incredible town is home to the largest ski resort in North America, as well as some of the finest shopping and dining in the world. You’ll have plenty of time to explore the heart of this town ~ Vail Village and Lionshead Village. Vail Village is an enchanting pedestrian area that hosts a variety of lodges, restaurants, galleries, and boutiques. Lionshead Village, another pedestrian mall located about 3/4 of a mile west of Vail Village, features additional shops and restaurants. After free time to explore and have lunch on your own, you’ll head to the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, the highest alpine garden in the world. Even in the winter, the rock gardens, waterfalls, and alpine plants are beautiful at this lovely outdoor facility. You’ll conclude your day at the Colorado Ski Museum, a fabulous stop for learning a bit more about the early days of the sport of skiing and the transformation it has undergone over the last 100 years! LoDo Ghost Tour Sunday, March 14, 2010 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. $42.00 Let us take you back in time to experience “turn-of-the-century” Denver as you take a walking tour through the restored 100-year old buildings and warehouses of Lower Downtown Denver, affectionately known to locals as “LoDo”. While exploring this historical district you will be treated to an insider’s tour of the Oxford Hotel, Denver’s first hotel that opened in 1891, and home to many ghost legends. These include the postman who haunts the 1930’s era Cruise Room, where you will nibble on some snacks while enjoying the stories. Next, more ghost stories will unfold at Union Station as well as tales of “rags to riches” miners, fires, floods and famine, famous con-man Soapy Smith, haunted brothels, and much more! You will end this riveting tour at Mattie’s House of Mirrors. Built in 1889, Mattie’s piano has been known to play by itself and apparitions have been glimpsed in the mirrors… a perfect spot to wrap up a “haunting” journey. You will enjoy sites that are illuminated after dark, including the State Capitol building, the Denver City and County Building, and the 16th Street Mall. As a special treat, you will enjoy an in depth tour of one of Colorado’s famous homes, The Molly Brown House, where you’ll learn how the "unsinkable" Molly Brown saved many lives during the sinking of the Titanic and hear her endearing rags-to-riches-to-rags story as told by guides in period costumes. And if you would rather enjoy the mountain without racing down it, join a free snowshoe tour or throw on some ice skates and glide around West Lake. Wings and Things in the Springs Friday, March 19, 2010 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. $52.00 Board your motorcoach bound for one of Colorado's most charming cities... Colorado Springs! The first stop will be the fantastic United States Air Force Academy (USAFA)! At the USAFA Visitor’s Center you’ll find exhibits on cadet life and the history of the Academy before venturing to the Chapel which is breathtaking with its 17 spires of steel and glass. Then watch the cadets march in their lunch formation as a special treat. Feel free to spend more of the day here or join us for some other Colorado Springs attractions. We will come back in the afternoon to pick up those guests who stayed behind for a more in depth visit at the Academy. Our next stop will be to explore Old Colorado City which was established in 1859 and designated the first capitol of the Colorado Territory in 1861. Take time to stroll the brick sidewalks with 100-year old buildings providing the perfect backdrop for shopping and lunch on your own. Then you will depart for the Olympic Training Center, with a stop at one of Colorado's natural wonders, the Garden of the Gods. A drive through the park will provide some great opportunities for pictures, before heading to the final stop of the day. The U.S. Olympic Training Center is home to many of the United States’ best athletes and features state-of-the-art aquatic facilities, multi-sport gymnasiums, a velodrome, and much more! You will enjoy a 12-minute video at the visitors’ center, followed by a 45-minute guided tour throughout the facility. Includes transportation, admissions, bottled water, and a snack.
