Overall, buyers continue to have the advantage. ■ Transactions increased during the past year, especially in the United States, but the inflow of additional aircraft for sale, particularly from Europe, continues to hold prices down. ■ Most activity is occurring in model years since 1998, which has been the scenario for some time now. Older aircraft that have pricing expectations not aligned with the current marketplace realities tend to remain unsold for extended periods of time. ■ Declining sale prices on several aircraft are stimulating activity and increasing transactions. Other models, however, are at or near record-high inventory levels. Hawker 800A Market Summary T he number of aircraft for sale both rose and fell from five to 15 percent quarter to quarter over the course of the preceding year. Those based in the United States accounted for a nine unit drop (-21%) from 43 to 34 while the rest of the world saw an increase from four to eight (+100%) for the period. Average asking prices increased by $53,616 through the first four months of 2012, but then dropped eight of the remaining nine, for an average decline of $44,272 per quarter. However, actions taken by the company in regard to warranty coverage and support programs are expected to have adverse effects that have not yet shown up in the transaction numbers and values. Completed aircraft, units still on the production line, and used inventory owned by HBC being “monetized” are expected to increase the number of transactions, but exert extreme downward pressure on pricing. Aircraft for sale varied between five and eight units before ending with an inventory of seven (+40%). Most of the increase was in the U.S. where availability went up from three to six (+100%). Internationally-based aircraft declined one unit from two to one (-50%).
