Volume 27 Page 3 “THE THRILL IS GONE” STEVE THORPE HAS PASSED Steve Thorpe was a very dear to many in the music and blues community and will live on forever in the hearts and memories of his family, friends, musicians who he performed with and his fans. First and foremost he was a dear Husband to Linda and the very proud Father of his son Nathan, who played Bass with his dad for many years. Steve passed from an undisclosed illness on August 19, 2010 at home with his family around him. He was a kind and humble musician with amazing ability and talent. He was a strong willed gentleman with a heart of gold and a great sense of humor, as long as the joke wasn’t on him. Steve was born in Kentucky, and lived on the East Coast of Florida for many years where he performed with some of the best. Big Bill Morganfield, Alto Reed, George Terry and Todd Taylor to name a few. Steve was a straight-ahead aggressive blues guitar player and a soulful singer. Known for his hard hitting Chicago/Texas style, Steve would occasionally pull out a dobra and do a set of his favorite delta songs if the mood hit and the crowd were right. All blues, all the time...except when Todd Taylor called and says bring a dobra and lets do some pickin'. Steve grew up in Eastern Kentucky listening to bluegrass his entire childhood. Steve said that bluegrass style dobro is what led him ultimately to the blues. A Memorial Celebration of Life is being planned at The Maxwell C King Center Rotunda in Melbourne, Florida for his Florida entourage to have closure. Details to follow on Linda’s return from Kentucky, where Steve was laid to rest beside his father on a beautiful hill top in the Thorpe family cemetery. By Ari Mendes As a record label executive and music producer, I do get demos from zillions of bands. This one caught my attention so much that I decided to produce them in the studio. Also, I love Gospel music. It represents Family Values, Peace, Respect, and the Willingness to Help one Another. Myself, I do have a Gospel acoustic guitar CD, with a selection of everybody’s favorite Spirituals. And I also play a Sunday Gospel Brunch every Sunday Morning from 11 to 2 at Sixty Sundaes, one of our Corporate Sponsors. But the band Remedy, well, Remedy is Rock’n Roll!! Great combination, guitar power and Jesus…The founding members are all family members playing music for most of their lives, either as performing and studio musicians. They all write their own original songs, beautiful, contagious Rock’n Roll. Russ, a singer and the lead guitar player, is also a school teacher here in Port St Lucie. Martha, the lead singer, has recorded a Country CD as a solo artist, a few years ago. She’s from Texas, where she was also a police officer. Some dangerous brew… Her Hubby, David, is a precise, firm,” in the pocket “drummer. A very sought after studio drummer, also a singer. On bass, we have Dylan, the youngest of the bunch. He’s amazing, plays all instruments, sings, and has a very professional attitude, not too common in young kids nowadays…Way to go, Dylan! Last but not Least, another very talented musician, Mrs Karen White on keyboards. She also sings, plays mandolin, ac and electric guitar, upright bass, banjo, wow! Karen is well known in the bluegrass circles in this area, and a solo artist on her own. She also works with PSL’s Police department… Hey Cougar, as a former undercover Police Officer, what you think of this awesome gathering of minds? They decided to form Remedy about one year ago and with the help of Ari Mendes have produced our first all Christian music CD. Remedy, A Cure for What Ails Ya, will be released in mid Oct. Please check us out at rocknremedy.blogspot.com or on facebook at Remedy (Cure for What Ails Ya) for information about how to contact us. God bless us all…. Ari Mendes is a guitar player, and has been practicing a lot to be able keep up with all this talent here in the Treasure Coast… Find me on Facebook!
