Between Acts Shoreline Players Community Theater 6000 N. Skeel Avenue, P.O. Box 395, Oscoda, MI 48750 • (989) 739-3586 - President’s Outlook Welcome summer and welcome to our new board members Lisa Mandeville, Diana Smith and Tina Wells. And as I was also elected for the new term I look forward to working with all of you along with Renee Diener, J.D. Hock and Dawn Mobilio who are completing the second year of their terms. I also need to say a big thank you to Eddie Bissell, Eric Joseph and Jackie Temple for their service as board members this past year. Their dedication is incredible and the hours they have spent working at and for our theater is beyond comprehension when you consider there are 24 hours in a day. Although they are no longer board members they are all still very active members and we are fortunate to have them on our team. The annual meeting was full of fun, food and fellowship followed by facts, funding issues and finances. The discussions went on for quite awhile and came down to the basics. We need more money to maintain our theater and put on quality shows and we need to put on quality shows to bring in more money. So now what? Several fundraising options were discussed along with several ideas about upcoming productions. New ways to advertise and a membership campaign were mentioned and more options were examined. We have been here for 40 years and we plan to be here that many more but I believe what we really need is a better connection to our members and to increase our membership. We need you and your friends and neighbors because each of you can contribute something special and unique that will benefit our theater and in exchange you can be enriched by being part of a bigger project that benefits your community. There are many events and shows occurring at “your” community theater so please come out and get involved so it is the best theater it can possibly be. It felt like a small intimate wedding reception with the audience (wedding guests) seated at cozy tables of two to six. Coffee, punch and cake were served as if you were at a real wedding reception. The bride and groom were pronounced Mr. and Mrs.; the cake was cut; and the members of the cast came down to the tables and mingled with guests. They introduced themselves and dropped information as to who they were and shared their relationship to the bride and groom, much like at a real wedding reception - except, almost immediately, it was announced that someone had been murdered. Guests were encouraged to take notes and pay attention to the information and clues they were given. It was important, too, to listen well to conversations so that later guests could try to determine the identity of the killer, the motive and the weapon used. It was a unique and interesting evening, far from the usual play setting. It was also critical to ask the cast members questions, possibly catching them in their little lies. Happily Every After involves a large cast, none of whom have standout roles, but all having roles Photo by Peggy Clarke INTRODUCING - The cast (wedding guests) of Happily Ever After applaud the new couple played by Amanda Boyat and Jeremy Lehmann at the opening of the Shoreline Players interactive murder mystery. with information critical to solving the mystery. J. D. Hock and Chris Hock not only wrote and directed the production, they also did the casting, staging and played integral parts in the performance of the evening. Cast members included bride and groom Amanda Boyat and Jeremy Lehmann; the bride’s parents, Ralph and Dawn Mobilio; the groom’s parents, John and Sandi Manning; wedding planner, Mary Morse; sisters of the bride’s mother, Diane Teddy and Dawn Mobilio; sister of the groom, Taylor Host; the sister’s friends, Katie Wimmer and Alyssa Binkowski; boutique owner, Tina Wells; minister, Tom Erlenbaugh or Nate Rowell; banquet room manager, Denise Hanson; daughter of the groom, Zoe Lehmann; bakery owner, Kathy Abernathy; jewelry store owner, Diana Smith; best man, David Moyer; maid of honor, Diamond Flynn; and usher, Eric Ackerman. You are cordially invited to attend the marriage of Amanda and Johnathan again this next weekend, Friday and Saturday, July 5 - 6 at 7:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 7 at the Shoreline Players Theater, 6000 N. Skeel Avenue, on the former Air Force base in Oscoda. Call (989) 7393586 for information or reservations, tickets can be purchased at the theater box office as well. This was clearly a unique and enjoyable evening of entertainment. Your “RSVP” would probably be appreciated. The cast did a nice job of interacting with the guests and I am told that the outcome will be different each night. The outcome may also depend on the audience and their determination of the guilty party. Who knows? You’ll have to go see for yourself. The Cast of HAPPILY EVER AFTER??!! Secretary and treasurer’s reports were read. We received some donations from individuals on behalf of Charlotte (a former attendee who passed away). Thank you cards will be sent. The garage sale went well bringing in $304.25 and vendors are already lining up for next year. We are looking into various fundraisers such as the possibility of The Huron Shores Poker room, more 50/50s, et cetera. To further reach the goal of certain fundraisers, there are rules and regulations that are required by the State of Michigan that we must follow. An idea was to partner with an organization that has a license already for a poker tournament to possibly split with. Grants are another option and if anyone knows of a grant writer, please have them contact Sue Miller. There was discussion on the upcoming general membership meeting. Seven people are running for four seats on the board. There was discussion on upcoming productions including Happily Ever After??!! and the summer variety show which will include a Shoreline Player Youth Drama Association (SPYDA) performance entitled Back To Summer spearheaded by Diana Smith and a light show finale. There was also talk about the new season lineup including Godspell, The Miss Firecracker Contest, the annual Community Christmas Show, A Midsummer’s Night Dream and the possibility of bringing in destination performers for one night only shows. New member Jim Rowden has volunteered to mow our lawn regularly using our tractor and he would like to organize a clean-up day to put things in proper places. He will also be replacing the outside lights with new donated fixtures. GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING—THURS., JUNE 13: The meeting opened with the pledge to the flag. Six board members and 17 members and guests were present. Many members renewed their membership and Shoreline Players gained one new membership. President, secretary and treasurer reports were read. The annual audit was also presented. There was much discussion about the numerous challenges we faced in the last two seasons. Mainly these stemmed from our inability to produce a fall musical. This was due to a series of truly unfortunate events that all seemed to come at once. These challenges ranged from health issues with directors, cast members’ personal schedule conflicts, weather issues and a number of truly unfortunate circumstances. However, we have stayed the course and have presented a full season to our guests. We have yet to find a person who is versed in grant writing. We have received a $500 grant from the I.C.C.F. for a SPYDA show. There is a committee being formed to continue having community vendors showcase in the lobby due to the success of that program. The meeting closed with the voting in of the following new board members. Congratulations to Lisa Mandeville, Sue Miller, Diana Smith and Tina Wells. J.D.
