By collaborating on their treatment plan, the client is able to build a relationship with his/her support team and is empowered in their recovery. Each year, McClendon Center provides an estimated 2,100 Medication Management visits, which are fundamental to our clients’ recoveries. Clients meet with either doctors from the McClendon Center, some of whom are psychiatry residents from George Washington University. Our professionals assess clients’ psychiatric symptoms and prescribe medications to stabilize their illnesses. Individuals participate in our Day Program for a variety of reasons. Some seek stability and routine in their lives; others want to be a part of a community where they can focus on their wellness and recovery within a supportive environment that provides social interaction. Group sessions focus on coping skills, life skills building, empowerment, health and wellness, trauma, dual diagnosis, and recovery. Health Screening Expressive Therapy Program Individuals with mental illness tend to have poorer health outcomes and less healthcare access. As a result, they may die years earlier than the average person from untreated — but preventable — chronic illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. In addition to mental healthcare, McClendon Center focuses on providing primary care linkage, addressing symptom management, and education. At intake, our Registered Nurse conducts a health assessment and then continues to coordinate with the client’s primary care provider to promote healthy outcomes. We offer a wide variety of expressive therapy activities including movement, sound, and art. As clients progress, they are able to make connections between physical, visual, mental, and emotional domains, which help to increase and improve their social interaction, confidence, and general mental well-being. Community Support Our Community Support Specialists (CSS) meet regularly with clients, which is essential to keeping our clients on track with their treatment plans. CSS staff also assist clients with securing and maintaining housing, exploring vocational opportunities, navigating the legal system when necessary, providing transportation to medical appointments, and applying for entitlements such as SSI, Medicaid, food stamps, etc. Therapy/Counseling We offer both individual and group psychotherapy services that focus on assisting our clients in working on life goals and challenges as well as strategies for coping with symptoms and stressors. During sessions, clients may address issues around relationships, trauma, bereavement, anger management, and so on. Patient Discharge Coordination (PDC) Our Patient Discharge Coordinators meet with individuals while they are still hospitalized and evaluate their needs for beginning or continuing psychiatric care after discharge. By establishing a relationship with the individual early on, we are able to ensure that they receive treatment services during the early stages of their recovery process as well as decrease their likelihood of re -hospitalization. Stable Housing Approximately 30% of (new) homeless clients are placed in safe housing within a six-month period. With the help of the CSS staff, clients are able to apply for, secure and maintain stable housing or living conditions. I’ve had to take steps from individual therapy to small groups to larger groups, and I’ve done it. Being [at McClendon Center] is the lucky part. I feel safe and it’s a place where I can get my thoughts right. — Gordon L. _________________________________________________ Account Number & Expiration Date ____________________________________________________________ Name ____________________________________________________________ Address ____________________________________________________________ City, State Zip ____________________________________________________________ Daytime Telephone ____________________________________________________________ Email Please check this box to receive our monthly e-newsletter.
