In 2013, Illustrious Sir John Bull, Jr.
built tremendous momentum and sent
Antioch “Racing Toward the Future!”
In 2014, YOU built on that momentum
& message and sent Antioch “Honoring
our Past and Soaring To New Heights!” I
could not possibly be more proud. Thank
you for allowing Holly and I to be part of
this unbelievable ride.
YOU resoundingly voted to make
107 E. First Street the permanent home
of Antioch Shriners. YOU put your love
and money behind that vote and helped
us purchase our very own 10’ SILENT
MESSENGER. Our “newest member”
will stand tall representing our values
and announcing to everyone…this is the
home of ANTIOCH SHRINERS!
2014 will be forever remembered for
several key events. In January, Antioch
attended the East-West Shrine Football
game and was recognized on the field for
our contributions to Shriners. While in
Tampa, our entire group was invited to
Shriner of the Month award…presented
to our very own Larry Rike! In February,
we were blessed with a tremendous
Circus. Circus Director Kevin Sweeney
executed a comprehensive plan that
improved the customer experience and
increased our revenues! In March, we
had a “fun” fish fry…well, fun if you
think setting off the fire suppression and
having 10 Dayton Firefighters storm
the building is fun!! April gave us the
Antioch “Easter Egg and Bunny Hop”
party. All three floors of our building
were packed with kids, candy and
2,500 Easter eggs! April also featured
a night we will remember forever…240
people attended Antioch’s Black & Gold
Potentate’s Ball. The centerpiece of our
Ball was the Crowning of our Guest
of Honor…Princess Addy Stevens. Addy
& her family participated in dozens of
our Shrine events throughout the year.
To commemorate our commitment to the
SILENT MESSENGER, everyone at the
Ball received a gold 12” silent messenger
statue! May brought the kick-off to a
rather “wet” parade season (it rained at
six of our parades). Also, May gave us
Antioch’s 277th Ceremonial…named in
honor of my dad…Kenny Lipps. It was
a heart-felt day for our family that we
will always cherish. June saw Illustrious
Sir Gary Blackford hosting the Ohio
Shrine Association meeting at Antioch.
Our guests were very impressed with
our building and our attendance! In July,
we promised Antioch would “ROCK”
Imperial in Minneapolis. Wow! Antioch
achieved “Top 10” for feet on the street
and celebrated with a giant dinner party
that resulted in over $11,000 in pledges
for our 10’ SILENT MESSENGER. The
excitement and enthusiasm in the room
was mesmerizing and was talked about
for months. Our trip to Minneapolis was
marred by a vicious squirrel attack that
sidelined our Pilgrimage Chair Illustrious
Sir John Bull, Jr. Note…in the spirit of
brotherly love (and humor), the squirrel
attended our Antioch Halloween Party
with John…
We closed out 2014 with an elegant
Ladies Luncheon, a fun-filled Halloween
party for children, a crazy adult Halloween
party (featuring a remarkable makeover
of Antioch into a Haunted Temple…
thanks Bob & Mitzi Mittlestead), the
278th Antioch Ceremonial honoring our
Shriner’s Shriner…Larry Rike, our first
annual Antioch Tattoo Fest (which sold
out) and a fabulous, packed (270 people)
Children’s Christmas Party. Believe me,
this just barely touches on what happened
at Antioch in 2014. We had hundreds
of meetings, dinners, parties and Club
& Unit events. ANTIOCH ROCKED!

YOU MADE OUR EVENTS GREAT,
MEMORABLE AND FUN!
In closing, I extend my hand and heart
to each of you. I will always remember
your help, support, ideas, comments,
questions, direction, suggestions,
attendance and love. It is very difficult
to truly express how proud I am of
Antioch…of YOU! I consider myself
fortunate to have served in the Divan with
great Shriners and leaders: Tom Schoff,
Bill Garlow, Jeff Shaw and John Bull, Jr.
My life has been blessed. My grandpa
(Earl) was an active member of Antioch
Kentucky Colonels (buried in his dress
white uniform), my dad (Kenny) is a 45
year member of our Antioch Brass Band,
my son-in-law (Ryan) is President of
Antioch Indy Cars. And, I have all you as
my Shrine Family. I love you and I love
Antioch Shrine…forever.

Antioch Shrine Center. She has
become my second home over the past
few years! I have so many joyous
memories of my time spent with you.
When Scott asked me to join him and
share this honor; I immediately said YES!
I could not imagine the journey I was
about to embark on. It is a journey that
must be experienced to fully understand
it. Amazing is not adequate. Fabulous is
just a glimmer of the joy one experiences
on this ride. Oh, don’t misunderstand,
there’s work LOTS of work!! However,
there are so many hands and hearts to help
with every step, the work never seems a
burden. Rather, it’s as if we’re simply
group of friends, a family working and
playing together for a common cause. A
good and common thread – each other and
the children our hospitals care for.
I want to thank ALL of YOU; there
are so many names! Ryan & Jessica,
Bob & Mitzi, James & Cynthia, Jim &
Karen, Richard & Marla, Dave & Susan,
Rick & Teresa, the ENTIRE Divan, our
Past Potentates & Ladies, Bruce, Elissa
Guild, Daughters of the Nile, Pam - just to
name a few. Every club, every unit, every
family member who attended a parade
or an event, your help and support have
helped build friendships and memories
that will be with me for the rest of my life.
I will cherish these years. I will treasure
each member of our beloved Antioch.
As Scott and I make our exit from the
Divan, we leave Antioch in your kind
and capable hands. Love her and guide
her through new adventures and exciting,
new territory! Be proud of her. Most

Love to the Rescue®
Shriners Hospitals for Children® – Cincinnati hosted our
first ever “Love to the Rescue Celebration” on November 11,
2014 at the Hall of Mirrors at The Hilton Cincinnati Netherland
Plaza. We were able to connect with old and new friends and
raise over $30,000 for the hospital!
The evening began with WWII veteran, Cliff Reeder, giving
the invocation. Cliff served in the South Pacific as a master
technical sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.
Rachael Creech, the mother of one of our patients, told her
son’s story of being sent home to die and how Shriners
Hospitals for Children – Cincinnati gave him his life back. She
highlighted a recent conversation where her son was asked
what was so different about this hospital. His response? “They
care about me.”
The event was made all the more special
because of our keynote speaker, John
O’Leary who was on hand to share his
amazing story. John is a burn survivor
and internationally acclaimed speaker on
leadership and overcoming adversity. At
the age of nine, John was expected to
die. Today, he teaches others how to truly
live and be a part of bringing “Love to the
rescue.”
Guests left the event with a greater knowledge of the hospital
and a greater passion to support our mission through patient
referral and donations. We hope to make the “Love to the
Rescue Celebration” an annual event.

Potentate Elect’s Message for Jan Crier
Nobles and Ladies All,
Thank You for all of the support you have given Antioch over the past several years, so
that she can once again take her rightful place among the best Shrine Centers in Shrinedom. I
would also like to say thanks for supporting Lady Val and I through our Journey leading up to
today and what will transpire this year. Thank You for your belief that this fraternity is worth
the time, energy and resources of every Noble, Lady, and friend of Antioch.
Antioch has a Big Year ahead, a Bright Future, and tremendous Energy and I hope you
plan to be a part of some or all of what will transpire in our future. We have a wide variety
of events to interest a diverse cross-section of everyone. We have Dances and Parties, our
version of the Olympic X Games, Volleyball and a Fall Festival, an Adult Easter Egg hunt,
several Parties for our Kids, Fishing and Shopping, elegant Luncheons and a Formal Ball,
Camping, Train Rides (one big one in particular), Hospital Visits, Craft Vendor show, lots of
programs for our beautiful Ladies (see Lady Valeri’s article and the calendar for more details),
Kids and family trips, a step back in time to Amish Country, other Celebrations, and we will
honor those that have served! This is very important to Valeri and I and we hope to show you
Antioch’s patriotism and gratitude. We will round out the year’s end with a New Year’s Party
and for those who wish a night’s stay at the Crown Plaza in downtown Dayton after.
We are on a roll at Antioch, you have a cohesive Divan working as a team, capitalizing on
each other’s strengths and augmenting the gaps, so that no one individual has to “do it all”
and the team succeeds. You have Past Potes engaged in our future, your Foundation, engaged
in preserving our home and we all have unity as a family. When you hear and see the other Shrine Centers struggling, in alarming
numbers, look at Antioch. That alone should make every one of us, Nobles and Ladies alike, extremely proud of what we have
done over the past several years.
Always remember, if you don’t care who gets the credit, you can accomplish great things. I believe it to be true and I believe
that is why Antioch is succeeding today, in part, because of this mentality, not only among your Leaders, but among the nobility
and their Ladies. If you keep it about Antioch and not about the individual or a particular Unit or Club, we can accomplish great
things! If you have any doubts, come walk with us this year and we will show you.
I believe in the Masonic principles and their application. Treat every Noble as a Brother, treat every Lady as you swore, and
treat all by the golden rule, and Antioch will stand strong into the future.
So, there is no doubt, I am proud to be a Shriner, but I am especially proud to be an Antioch Shriner!

Club

Now that the holiday season has
passed it’s time to begin thinking
SPRING! Even though we are in the
midst of winter there is no time like the
present to start planning for spring and
summer activities. What comes to mind
is camping. Antioch now has a camping
club and is urging anyone interested in
joining the club to contact Noble Max
Richardson. Several nobles and their
ladies have already signed up. You do not
need a motor home or RV to join. The club
includes tent camping, RVs, motorhomes,
etc. There are several camping trips
planned for 2015 and we would love to
have you and your lady join us for fun
and friendship. You may contact Max

Well the parties are over and we are on
our way toward a great Circus, beginning
on the 6th of February. At the time of the
writing this article plans for Our Christmas
party to be held on the 13th are finalized
and attendance looks to be great. Once
again Christy’s is scheduled to deliver
an excellent dinner and the music will be
provided by Fintons & Collins.
Both Nobles Moore’s and Boyd’s
Ladies who are members of the Gem City
Sweet Adelines have provided support for
the Motor Corps nut sale and we want to
thank both ladies for their support. By
the way the Adelines also sell the same
quality nuts that the Motor Corps does and
they will be available thru March, 2015.

Noble Ken Sauerbrun had a slight scare
and short stay in the hospital but is now
doing fine. Take care of yourself Ken
The big news this month is that Noble
Donnie Taubert retired from Yellow
Trucking and now has convenient hours
to get into trouble and torment us all.

We hope that when you read this you
and yours had a wonderful holiday ! A
special hope you are getting better goes
out to Noble Spencer Combs. Last month
we had a special guest speaker from the
Army and Navy Orphanage in Xenia. Very
extraordinary what was done there. The
guest speaker was William Chavanne and
it is tentative for him to return January
13th for our breakfast and tell a short
story about Olive a Nurse who went above
and beyond her position as a Nurse. The
Circus is coming sooner than you think. Its
always a lot of fun !
Happy New Year to all, and
congratulations to our new Divan! I am
excited to see the momentum continue
at Antioch, and to see all of the exciting
things that Kevin and Valeri have planned
for 2015. I know this is going to be
another exciting year and that we will all
have many memories to cherish.

success, we had the great pleasure
of hosting Hailey Henry, a patient of
the Shriners Hospital for Children in
Lexington and her mom Angela. They
both had a great time thanks to you
all for making them feel so welcome.

of presenting a check to Don Hoke for
Antioch’s Hospital Fund.

a safe New Year’s. At our November
meeting we elected some new officers. We
would like to thank Charles for becoming
our new Vice President and Larry for
taking over as our Secretary and all other
officers remained the same. Our next
meeting is January 21st. Hope to see you

Units change of leadership. A big “Heart

and Lady Holly. We’ll see You both in this

do a donut in the snow, and head into the

GUN CLUB

The Gun Club’s annual Christmas
Party last month was a huge success.
There were over one hundred Nobles,
Ladies and family members filling
Antioch’s dining room to socialize and
listen to the “The Blue Heron Trio”
presenting hits from the 40s as well as
Christmas tunes. We socialized while PP
John Bull, Noble Eric Bull and Noble Bob
Mittlestead had their Indy Car gentlemen
walk among us serving the hor d’oeuvres
as we slipped into the Oasis for holiday
beverages for us and our Ladies. The
buffet tables were laden with a fabulous
Christmas feast home-made by our very
own “Annie Oakleys” led by Lady Allison
Brigitzer. Many “Annie Oakleys” brought
the desserts (some brought three!).
Door prize drawings were held for the
many beautiful poinsettias delivered by
Stockslager’s Garden Center. It was truly
a party to remember.
This month we meet at the Shrine on
Wednesday, January 15 at 7:00pm.

GUILD

The Elissa Shrine Guild held our
annual Christmas Party and Installation
of Officers on Dec. 11. We thanked
our retiring officers and welcomed our
2015 elected officers; Allison Brigitzer
(Paul) – Maharanee, Eva Griffith (Phillip)
– Ranee; Amy Thorpe – Secretary;
Marilyn Moritz – Sergeant at Arms;
Signe Yelland (Stephen); and Teresa Arp
(Douglas) – Scribe. Accepting appointed
offices were Kimberly Thorpe (Joseph)
– Parliamentarian, and Becky Mergy
(Shane) – Inner Guard and Historian.
The Guild would like to give special
recognition to Marjorie Reynolds (Dave).
Marj is a Charter Member and has served
as an Officer for two decades, the last 17
as our Secretary. A big hug and heart-felt
“thank you” to Lady Marj.
The Elissa Guild Ladies have several
activities planned for 2015, including
a Ladies Self-Defense Workshop and
Luncheon, Breakfast with the Easter
Bunny, a Fashion Exchange, and Holiday
Bazaar including Breakfast with Santa.
Of course, we will also continue our
trademark Bake Sales and Circus face
painting!

Greetings from the Shrine Club
of Springfield/Clark County. At our
November Stated Meeting and after a
delicious meal and great entertainment we
were able to confirm our slate of officers
for 2015.
As a result of a successful golf outing
in July, the Paper Drive in September
and ongoing Plaque sales we were able
to present to Donald Hoke, Antioch
Hospital Fund Chairman a check for
$18,000 for the Antioch Hospital Fund.
Our annual Christmas Party is in its final
planning stages and will be held on Friday,
December 19th.
Thanks to our Officers and Trustees for a
great 2014 and we look forward to another
successful year in 2015

The December Parade Escort meeting
was a wonderful Christmas party held
at Antioch Temple. Almost all members
were in attendance and enjoyed a great
meal catered by J& J Catering. Look for a
picture of our nefarious bunch of bikers in
the Crier. With riding season over, my bike
is in the shop getting some goodies added.
I’m looking forward to making more
parades next year and learning the names
of more of the Nobles in the various units.
I hope everyone has a safe Christmas

SHRINE CLUB

A little light from Darke. The DCSC
held their 2014 Christmas Party at
Romer’s in Greenville on December 10th.
We had 68 Nobles, Ladies and Guests
present. We were pleased to have with us
our Potentate, Illustrious Sir Scott Lipps
and Lady Holly, and Assistant Rabban
David Heiser. The highlights of the
evening included the presentation of a
check from the Greenville Moose Lodge
for $5,000.00 to the DCSC Hospital
Fund and the presentation of a check
to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children for
$49,000.00 to Illustrious Sir Scott Lipps.
. We were entertained by Mrs. Nancy
Livingston. During the entertainment,

ceremonial on seven new members to
Antioch. Congratulations to these new
Nobles. Would you like to be a member of

As did the Roman god, Janus, for
whom January is named, we look back
at the old year and look ahead to the new
year. We initiated one new member in
2014, but lost four to death. Each of us
must look at 2015 as a year of progress for
Azizah Temple and then work to make it
happen, practicing Queen Pat’s tenants of
friendship, charity, and truth.
Christmas was well celebrated by
Azizah Temple members and assorted
friends at our December 18 session,
devoted to fun and fellowship. You can
enjoy the camaraderie of the ladies of the
household at any session. Need a ride?
Call Queen Pat and she will help.
A committee has been appointed to
determine our best meeting day and
time for getting more members to attend
session. The committee will review past
discussions, plus other ideas, and present
its findings at an upcoming meeting. If
you do not usually attend session because
of the day of the week or the time of day,
please tell Queen Pat so your input can be
considered.
Our annual pasta dinner will be on
Saturday, February 14. The Past queens
invite you to make this your Valentine
Day’s celebration.
This month bring handheld games or
infant and toddler toys and cardboard
books for the hospital. Tell a friend of
Azizah’s privilege of helping our children.

The December Christmas Party
meeting brought entertainment from our
own Musicman DJ. Everyone enjoyed a
great meal, a Christmas game that ended
with everyone having a gift, and we had
a sing-a-long before ending the meeting.
New Officers were elected for 2015 and
will be installed at the January meeting.
Everyone please be safe this holiday
season. Be sure to have a Merry Christmas
and happy New Year. We look forward to

It was so wonderful to see so many
of the members at the Annual Christmas
Party at the Florentine. There were 24
nobles and ladies present. Thank you to
all the Divan that were able to make it
out to our party. Now it’s time to rest and
relax from the busy Christmas season. I
hope you all had a very safe and Happy
New Year’s. The horses have there winter
coats and the snow will be falling, but
no rest for this unit. We don’t get to put
our rides up for the season, as we tend to
the horses daily in caring for them and
waiting for the first parade of the season.
Where we get to see the kids smiles as
we come down the road in our costumes.

Christmas and New Year’s; I know I did!
The Antioch Pipes and Drums had its
Christmas party at the Dublin Pub this
year. The spacious new addition to the pub
warmly accommodated our large group
of veteran and newer band members, and
some special guests. So here we are, 2014
is behind us and a New Year has begun.
After a month off we will start preparing
for St. Patrick’s Day and the parade
season. I think we should be able to march
in more parades this year. Let’s all do
our part to make sure we have another
successful circus this year.

addition of a new Provost Guard, Noble
Phil Griffith. He and his Lady Eva reside
in Vandalia. As a retired Butler Township
police officer, we welcome his knowledge
and expertise in handling the traffic
control our Potentate’s parades require.
Lady Eva has already pitched in with her
cooking expertise and shared in making
our Christmas Party last month a true
culinary experience.
As we plan for all the fun events our
Antioch has planned for all of us this
wonderful new year let us not forget the
brave men and women serving in harm’s
way to keep us free.

GAMING GAMBLING RAFFLES
The Grand Master of Ohio has ruled in the affirmative for
lodges and 501(c)3 & (c) 10 entities like Antioch to gamble in
accordance with the laws of the state of Ohio. Before we can
proceed we must get a ruling from our legal council as to the
regulations pursuant to Antioch’s rights and responsibilities.
Therefore no club or unit may have such gaming activities until
notified by the Potentate and all requests for gaming activities
shall be in writing as to the type of activity being considered.
This ruling does not impact gaming by ladies organizations
or subordinate clubs. Your divan will have a comprehensive
informational meeting concerning gaming very soon.

2015 Usher Schedule
Circus
This is the schedule for ushers at the 2015 Antioch Shrine Circus. Please park in the parking lot by Welcome Stadium and
come in the entrance marked Noble entrance. Have your Fez visible for the parking attendants, so you do not have to pay for
parking. Sign in at the door. Come up to the Time Warner Lounge on the 2 nd floor and sign in at the Usher table, make sure
you have your shrine number with you. Please be there two hours and thirty minutes before the start of the performance your
group is assigned. You will receive a station assignment, armband and or vest, and flashlight. You also need to attend a
safety/security briefing by UD. Doors open to the public one hour before show time and ushers should be in place at their
assigned place at this time. Wives are welcome to usher. They should sign in with their husband’s shrine number. Wives only
sign in if they are working. If not working, they need a ticket to sit in the arena. We may or may not assign both husband and
wife at the same area. If you can work at other shows, please do come and work. We need at least 60 people per show. If
your group is listed for more than 1 performance, pick one or the other to work. If you can do both, that would be greatly
appreciated.

A 2015 New Year’s greeting from Lady Valeri, lady of Antioch’s Chief Rabban Kevin Sweeney
As we step back and reflect on the past 5 years, it has been an amazing journey. I can’t wait to see what 2015 brings. I recall
so many experiences that have imprinted a permanent memory in my book of life. Memories of tossing peanut shells in someone
else’s handbag at a baseball game when you intended for it to land on the ground…oops. Sharing an ice cream cone with a friend as
we watch the Air Show parade. Watching a competition of nobles and ladies attempting to ride tricycles, spit sunflower seeds, and
spin a hula-hoop. Hearing the financial benefit to our hospitals through the dedication of our nobles and ladies collecting aluminum
cans for totals over $1,000,000. Watching honorable ceremonies dedicated to our fallen comrades and salutes to the flag of this great
country. Seeing someone share a gift of love and knowing that person will be your memory-keeper. Each experience being a part of
that great journey, touched by each person you meet along the way.
2015 is here and we have one year in the life of this great fraternity to share with you and make a difference in the lives of
these children. Please come and enjoy the many activities planned for 2015. We promise to provide many opportunities for fun and

Monthly Soldier Care Packages in 2015
What mother wouldn’t be concerned about the care and well-being of our soldiers while stationed on
foreign soil? We plan to bring a monthly tradition to Antioch in 2015 to support our soldiers abroad and
provide a few conveniences for those far from home and missing the hugs and comfort of a loved one. A

Ladies Sewing, Knitting, Crochet, and Crafting Group

In 2015, we have several sessions scheduled to bring the ladies of all generations together to share laughter
and memories as we create items for the children of the Shrine Hospitals. If you don’t happen to sew, we’ll
make fleece blankets and also encourage ladies who are willing to teach their art of knitting, crocheting, or any
other craft to other ladies and launch the beginning of many new friendships.

Ladies Monthly Physical Fitness Checkpoints in 2015
2015 will bring New Year resolutions and heart healthy activities to the ladies of Antioch. Ladies will receive
credit for each 30 minutes of physical exercise and need to provide their monthly physical fitness hours on the
last day of each month. We’ll break the ladies into three age groups with monthly checkpoints on your progress.
Our groups will be (1) The Young and Restless –ages 21-40, (2) The Wild and Restless – ages 41-65, and the
(3) The Wise and Restless. We’ll tally the numbers monthly with quarterly incentives to the leaders in each of
the three age groups recording the most physical exercise for the past three months. However, you can only win
once in the quarterly competition but your name goes back into the hat for the final total of hours exercised per
age group from January through the end of November.

ever dreamed of being a clown, or face-painting, or just sharing the adventure with your children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews,
come join the Antioch team and share the memories of the 2015 Antioch Circus.
• February 28 – Watch Antioch blow the roof off with our over-the-top X-Games full of energy
and excitement - Call your friends and family and come see and participate in the 2015 Antioch
X-Games - coordinated by some amazing minds from our youngest generation of Nobles and their
ladies! Lots of events and opportunities to laugh. Bonus points may be awarded for non-Antioch

our Celtic’s content. Wear your green or endure the Celtic judgment of losing your lucky charms and pot-o-gold!
• March 27 – Come one Come all to Antioch’s first evening Adult Easter Egg hunt! Did we forget about the lights? Absolutely
not! That’s our intent! We hide the eggs, let the sun set, then see what creative minds Antioch has to offer for new patents on afterdark Easter Egg locating equipment. Another event to see the imagination of our youngest generation of Nobles come to life. More

• March 28 – Antioch’s second annual children’s Easter Egg hunt and pictures with the Easter Bunny –Bring
your children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews and watch the scurrying begin. Again, coordinated by our youngest
generation of Nobles and ladies promising candy, excitement, and special prizes from upstairs to the lower level
of Antioch as the hunt for Easter Eggs begins! Pictures also available with the Easter Bunny. More information to

• April 13 - an April of Barstools and Brushstrokes - As we send our nobles upstairs to attend the April stated
meeting, the instructors from Barstools & Brushstrokes (http://barstoolsandbrushstrokes.com/) will join the ladies
this year for a fun and eventful evening of laughter as we paint away our worries. Don’t be concerned if you’re not a painter and you
think this is something you just can’t possibly do. With a few strokes of a paintbrush, a little yellow here, a bit of green there, and blue
across the top, a picture will begin to emerge from the canvas in front of you. It’s magic!
• April 18 – *** Antioch 2015 Salute the Troops *** - On April 18, 2015, Antioch will honor any Antioch Noble or lady
of an Antioch Noble who served in the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard). We need YOUR
information by Feb. 28, 2015 to prepare for this honorable event. • Please see the Crier article Preparation for 2015’s Salute the
Troops for complete details.
• April 25 - Ladies April Shopping Trip – Our Lady Pat Bowen is planning a wonderful shopping trip to Urbana on April 25 as we
leave our nobles at the Springfield Shrine club for a Fishing tournament. Ladies can always stay at the Springfield Shrine club with
their rods and reels for a morning of adventure waiting to see who pulls the biggest fish or the most unusual item out of the pond. Any
noble who would prefer to spend the morning shopping instead of fishing is more than welcome. The only requirement…they have to
be willing to laugh with the rest of us!

• May 2 – Antioch Ceremonial and Annual Picnic at Springfield Shrine Club – Bring the entire family and
join us for a Spring Ceremonial followed by a picnic full of fun and laughter! Bring your fishing pole if you missed
catching a winner at the April 25 fishing tournament or enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Springfield Shrine
club and join in the fellowship with friends.
• May 9 – ●●● Antioch Ladies Luncheon and Teddy Bear Tea ●●● - Bring your daughters, grand-daughters, nieces, and friends
for a luncheon and Teddy Bear tea in Antioch’s great ballroom. Everyone (adults and children) needs to bring your favorite childhood
doll or stuffed animal as we venture back into our youth to enjoy the memories and simplicity of life. So dig out that beloved faithful
childhood friend you put away so long ago. If they happen to be a bit tattered or torn, it’s OK. Tell them a bit of mending won’t hurt at
all. After all, they are going to a party at Antioch!
• May 16 – Miamisburg Parade – our Parade season begins! We’ll post information for the ladies on the Antioch ladies web site

• June 7 – Masonic Home Parade – If you love short-cake and strawberries, you MUST go to the Masonic
Home parade and enjoy this fresh strawberry delicacy topped with whipped cream! I guarantee, if you eat it once,
you’ll be back next year!
• June 8 – Antioch Golf outing – Come one, come all ladies to play my version of hack-ball (golf). So you can’t hit the ball more
than 10 feet? You have concerns about the competition with nobles? No worries. It’s a scramble where you pick up your ball and
place it next to the best person’s ball on your team and start from there. Ever hear of Mulligan packages where you get a free kick, a
hit, a throw, a do-over? We’ve got you covered! If you’re willing to chase a golf ball across the course and laugh non-stop for 4 hours,
this is an adventure for you! More information to come…
• June 19 – Dayton Air Show Parade – looking for some wonderful Ice Cream? Come join the ladies as we visit the local Ice
Cream shop and take our Ice Cream cones back to watch the parade.
• June 20- Turkeyfoot Parade – come join us for a fun filled parade and watch the amusingly decorated golf carts provided by the
park locals
• June 26,27,28 - *** Antioch’s first official 2015 camping trip! *** We’ve camped before but it’s almost official that Antioch
has an upcoming freshly revived Camping unit! Three cheers for campfires and s’mores! We’ll camp at a location with easy access
to participate in the Air Force Museum tour June 27. We’ve heard Antioch had a camping club long ago. Guess what? We’re back…!

• September 14 - An evening of cupcake decorating - At the ladies luncheon this year, I heard someone say they’d
love to learn how to make beautiful cupcakes. So we decided this would be a wonderful adventure for our ladies with lots
of laughter, icing of many colors, and general all around fun. We’ll learn how to decorate basic cupcakes, cake ice-cream
cones, and maybe even make a humorous animal cupcake here or there. Bring your aprons, roll up your sleeves, and we’ll
share the art of cake decorating.
• September 15-19 – Great Lakes Shrine Association (GLSA) session in Toledo, Ohio – Toledo will provide lots of
Shrine sessions for the nobles while the ladies seek out and experience the hospitality of the local shops and cuisine.
• September 19 – GLSA Parade in Toledo – If you’ve never seen a GLSA Shrine parade, you have to come to see Antioch and all
the parading units. It’s a sight to behold!
• September 26 – Urbana Parade – Urbana always provides a shopping adventure. Come join us for a bit of fun!
• September 27 - *** Fall Festival Volleyball Tournament at JD Legends *** Five years ago our youngest generation of nobles
and ladies asked for a volleyball tournament and they’re going to make it happen in 2015! Come see the energy, the excitement, and
the potential of our strong and ever growing youngest generation of nobles in action…the future of Antioch Shrine! More information

• October 2-4 *** Antioch’s third official 2015 camping trip! *** By now, we should have all the Antioch
camping kinks worked out. They always say “Three times is a charm!” We’ll camp at a location with easy access
to participate in the Brookville parade on Oct 3. Visitors are always welcome for a camp fireside chat. Details will be
announced soon.
• October 4 – Minster parade – Yes, it will be a busy weekend for Antioch campers and parades but its October and the
year is almost over.
• October 10 – *** Antioch Ball at the Dayton Marriott *** – Return to the age of the steam train as we experience the days
of long ago. The age of hats, gloves, canes, and simple appreciation for the blessings received. Ball attire will be formal with ladies
requested to wear their favorite dress in every color of the rainbow. Nobles and guests are requested to wear their Military Uniform,
tuxedo, or suit proudly as a noble, friend, or family member of a noble/lady at Antioch Shrine. Be proud! We’re Shriners!
• October 16 – Calling of the Hogs – Another over-the-top surprise event you won’t want to miss in 2015. Pull out your biboveralls and straw hats as we call in all Piggy Banks distributed after the 2015 Installation and see who wins the Hog competition. Be
prepared for lots of country bumpkin activities, competitions, and laughs. More information to come…
• October 25 – Trip to the Great Pumpkin patch - Bring your whole family and join the adventure as we dress up the children
for an afternoon Halloween visit to the Great Pumpkin patch to select our pumpkins. So which pumpkin will we choose? Can we
even carry it? Where will we find the most perfect pumpkin in the entire pumpkin patch! Bring your wagons, your children, your
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends to cherish the memories through the eyes of a child. More information to come…

A Note from the Circus Office
The Circus will be here before we know it. In order to be a Circus Daddy you must send in the money and the coupons by
January 20, 2015. We need to know what we have available at that time to arrange for seats for the school groups, handicap groups,
etc. that we give tickets to.
The last day to exchange your Coupons for actual seat tickets at the Antioch Shrine Circus Office is January 23rd, 2015. After
that the office is bombarded with phone calls from the general public wanting tickets. If you are exchanging – make sure you know
the date and performance time you want before coming in. Trading for a different day and time after you already have had your
tickets printed is difficult. We can’t guarantee comparable seats to what you may have gotten. Also be considerate to the ladies
working in the office – DO NOT try to trade your tickets for a different day the week before the Circus. If you are giving coupons
to family or friends have them come to our office before January 23rd. That way they won’t have to wait in long lines at the ticket
window at UD Arena and they will get great seats.
Office hours in January are: M, Tu, Th, 8:30-5:30 W, F – 8:30-12:00
Remember you are financially responsible for any Noble Circus Coupons traded for seat tickets. The coupons are not free for
you to use for tickets. Pay for them and exchange them for seat tickets by January 23rd. We work with you to get the best seats and
give a parking pass with the tickets WE print!!!

Monthly Soldier Care Packages in 2015
What mother wouldn’t be concerned about the care and well-being of our soldiers while stationed on foreign soil? We plan to bring
a monthly tradition to Antioch in 2015 to support our soldiers abroad and provide a few conveniences for those far from home and
missing the hugs and comfort of a loved one. A tradition currently led by the Blue Star Mothers : http://www.bluestarmoms.org/index.

What can WE do?
1. We need Soldier recipients for our care-packages
● We are requesting the following priorities for soldiers receiving our care packages – specifically those serving abroad in a war zone or area of military conflict.
●A recipients – We are requesting direct family members of our Shriners - sons, daughters, grandsons, grand-daughters, nephews, nieces, etc. serving abroad in a war zone or area of military conflict.
●B recipients – Our second priority will be children/grandchildren/nieces/nephews of a friend or neighbor who are serving abroad, a war zone or location of military conflict.
●C recipients – If we run out of soldiers to receive packages, we’re start again from the top of the list. The last package(s) will be sent early November 2015.
For each soldier’s name submitted to receive a care-package, please provide the following information:
• Soldier’s Name and Rank
• Branch of Armed Services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines)
• Location of deployment (Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.)
• Duration of deployment (beginning and ending dates)
•A brief write-up on the soldier’s family, interests, etc.
2. We need children to make home-made cards to send each month to the soldiers
• Children can decorate the cards with crayons, colored pencils, glitter, stickers, or whatever these creative minds select for their special card(s)
• Just remember…it has to ship across the world and should last through the soldier’s tour of duty abroad
3. We need teachers who will allow the students in their classroom to send notes and home-made cards each month to a soldier
• We’ll assign a teacher each month if we have enough volunteers
4. We need sponsors each month to assist in funding the postage to ship packages to our soldiers. Priority Mail International rate for packages to Military FPO/APO/DPO military bases is as follows:
• Priority Mail – Medium Flat Rate box – 11” x 8.5” x 5.5” - $12.65 per box
• Priority Mail – Large Flat Rate box – 12” x 12” x 5.5” - $15.90 per box

Ladies Monthly Physical Fitness Checkpoints in 2015
2015 will bring New Year resolutions and heart healthy activities to the ladies of Antioch. Ladies will receive credit for each
30 minutes of physical exercise and need to provide their monthly physical fitness hours on the last day of each month. We’ll
break the ladies into three age groups with monthly checkpoints on your progress. Our groups will be (1) The Young and Restless
–ages 21-40,
(2) The Wild and Restless – ages 41-65, and the (3) The Wise and Restless. We’ll tally the numbers monthly with quarterly
incentives to the leaders in each of the three age groups recording the most physical exercise for the past three months. However,
you can only win once in the quarterly competition but your name goes back into the hat for the final total of hours exercised per
age group from January through the end of November.
Remember ladies….this is based on an honor system! No fudging the numbers here or there to get you over the line. Your
heart WILL know the difference!
All exercise hours for the month should be emailed on the LAST DAY OF THE MONTH to
mrichardson@my.devry.edu Please do not send hours for previous months already reported.

One final note to all participants. Sitting in front of the computer or TV does not equate to physical exercise…at least not in
the eyes of a licensed physician. So ladies, get up, get going, and be part of the Antioch Ladies 2015 year of physical fitness!
Ladies Sewing, Knitting, Crochet, and Crafting Group
In 2015, we have several sessions scheduled to bring the ladies of all generations together to share laughter and memories as
we create items for the children of the Shrine Hospitals. If you don’t happen to sew, we’ll make fleece blankets and also encourage
ladies who are willing to teach their art of knitting, crocheting, or any other craft to other ladies and launch the beginning of many
new friendships.
The Shrine Cincinnati and Lexington Children’s Hospitals have requested our assistance in creating the following for the
children:

•16 x 16 inch drawstring toy bags (materials – 18 x 36 inch material with 70 inch cord for drawstring)
