CHALLENGE OVERVIEW Amazon Jungle This post challenge extension provides excellent wildlife encounters in one of the world's most diverse and well-preserved tropical rainforests: the Tambopata National Reserve part of the Mighty Amazon Rainforest. Trip duration: 4 nights Accommodation: Jungle lodge accommodation based on twin share Your trip includes: • • • • • Domestic flights All accommodation and transport as outlined below Meals as outlined in the itinerary Tours/activities as per the itinerary English speaking guide -"! (! The Amazon covers 2.1 million square miles and if it was a country, it would rank 9th in the world by size. DAY 3: -"!(!'!%%, DAY 1: Following your early morning flight to Puerto Maldonado from Cusco, you will be met at the airport by your naturalist guide and transferred to the dock for the trip up the Tambopata River to the lodge. On the journey, the vegetation changes from colonized deforested areas to virgin rainforest. On arrival you will have a welcome drink and in the late afternoon you set off for an introductory walk into the "terra firme" forest behind the lodge, which is dominated by giant Brazil-nut trees. After dinner, there is the option for a night walk to find nocturnal animals, bats, frogs or insects. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included DAY 2: After breakfast, you will have a chance enjoy some spare time, whether it be to relax or take part in some of the adventure activities available. Why not have a swim in the Tambopata River, go kayaking on the river (*) or fish for some of the 250 species that inhabit the river. After lunch, you will board the boat and head to the Bahuaja Sonene National Park. During the journey you will pass through pristine landscapes,areas designated exclusively for conservation and eco-tourism. You will arrive to Tambopata Wildlife Centre located on the Malinowski River as afternoon falls. On arrival you will walk to the viewpoint “La Torre", where you can see thebeautiful sunset scenery at the confluence of the rivers Tambopata Alto and Malinowski. You will then take a night walk to the mammal’s clay lick where you will try see nocturnal mammals as they visit the clay lick to eat clay or to hunt. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included * Adventure activities such as Kayak or zip-line have an additional cost payable locally After an early coffee or tea you will start the 25 minute ride upstream to the El Chuncho Great Macaw Claylick. If the weather conditions are favorable, you will be privileged to see of one of the most amazing sights in the Amazon: hundreds of parrots and macaws gathered together to feed from the clay of the cliff. It is a unique, unforgettable experience! After a light refreshment, you will walk across the river beach in search of animal tracks. Once the walk is over you will head back downstream, towards the Tambopata Wildlife Centre campsite where you will have a late breakfast. From there you will return to WASAI Tambopata Lodge for a rest. Those who wish can swim in the Lodge’s dock before lunch. After lunch, you will do an Ethnobotanical walk where you will learn about the medical plants of the region. This afternoon is free for you to spend as you please. Tonight you will go on a boat ride in search for caymans in the area around the lodge. DAY 4: Breakfast, lunch & dinner included Today after an early breakfast you make the journey back down the Tambopata River to Puerto Maldonado arriving at WASAI Maldonado Ecolodge for lunch. In the afternoon you will travel down the Madre de Dios River and from there walk through the forest to the tranquil and beautiful Lake Sandoval. At the lake your guide will paddle you in a wooden canoe to look for Giant River Otters and birds such as Hoatzin and Anhinga. You will walk back through the forest to look for some of the nocturnal creatures of the forest and then travel back to the lodge for a final evening meal. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included DAY 5: After breakfast your journey home begins. You’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight. Breakfast included Price: £95 Registration Fee + £795 balance Need to know: Extension trips are subject to availability and usually have a minimum number of participants to operate. 6-months prior to departure, Really Wild Challenges will contact all participants who have opted for an extension trip. Should there not be enough participants; a full refund will be granted. How to sign-up: Upon registration for the event, you will be asked to opt for the extension option. £95 will then be added to your registration balance. Really Wild Challenges will invoice each participant 12-weeks prior to departure for the final balance.
