Banco Lafise is part of Grupo Lafise and Latin American
Financial Services (LAFISE) is a financial institution
created in 1985 to provide financial services in Central
America and the Caribbean. With headquarters in
Miami, FL, Banco Lafise supports 160 branch offices in
countries including Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama,
Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic.

Banco Lafise depends on its Power Systems running
IBM i to run its business, and needed a solution to
replicate the Integrated Banking System (IBS) and its main banking software, Datapro. Prior to
installing iCluster, Banco Lafise were dependent on their tape backup systems for disaster recovery
planning. Should they have had to recover from their tape backup, it could have taken up to 48 hours
which would have represented a total loss to Banco Lafise.
In addition, Banco Lafise was experiencing increasing demands for 24/7 data access. In order to
service these demands they realized that they need to have a comprehensive high availability and
disaster recovery (HA/DR) plan in place.
“As Banco Lafise grows, we have an increased responsibility to our clients. We use iCluster to
guarantee 24/7 operations to our customers,” says IT Infrastructure Manager, Diego Montes. “With our
network of ATMs and all banking operations being dependent on our Power Systems running IBM i,
it became obvious to us that it was imperative to have a HA/DR solution in place.”
Solution
Banco Lafise determined that Rocket iCluster could meet and exceed their requirements for an
HA/DR solution. They decided to install Rocket iCluster in their locations in Nicaragua, Costa Rica,
and Honduras. Each location has a complete high availability installation with licenses for a
production server and a backup server. Banco Lafise has a total of nine Power Systems running IBM i.
Banco Lafise replicates their data daily from Costa Rica to their centralized location in Nicaragua.

Since the iCluster implementation, Banco Lafise has performed twice annual switchovers for
scheduled maintenance and audit reference. Each switchover is seamless with no data loss. Rocket
