Belo Horizonte [two days] This itinerary brings suggestions of visits for those who have more time available than those who can stay for just one day. Follow the programme that is included in the Belo Horizonte [one day] and add on the suggestions found below. Central Region There are good attractions in the central area, a visit to the Museu de Artes e Ofícios (Museum of Arts and Crafts) is a must-do. This visit can be paired with one to the Circuito Cultural Praça da Liberdade (Praça da Liberdade’s Cultural Circuit) and to the Centro Mineiro de Artesanato (Mineiro Handicraft Centre) located at the Palácio das Artes (Arts Palace). Museu de Artes e Ofícios Museum of Arts and Crafts A cultural space that houses a collection that represents the universe of work, arts and crafts in Brazil. Many varieties of Brazilian trades are represented here. These include diverse tools, utensils, machines and equipment that, individually or together, lead every visitor to certain identification with the universe of work of times gone by. Other possible visits in the downtown area are: Mercado Central Central Market Apart from being one of the most traditional and cherished places of the population, it is, without doubt, the best place to buy good Brazilian cream cheese or a guava cheese. There is also a wonderful handicraft section, with many articles made of straw, soap stone, bamboo and liana. Museu dos Brinquedos Toy Museum For children, it truly is a party to see so many toys all in one place; for young adults or even those who may be older, the collection at the Museu dos Brinquedos brings back great childhood memories. Pampulha Fundação Zoo-Botânica Zoo-Botanical Foundation Apart from visiting the Igreja São Francisco de and the Museu de Artes da Pampulha, add on a visit to the Fundação Zoo-Botânica, which is responsible for the Zoo, Jardim Botânico and the Aquário da Bacia do Rio São Francisco. The Zoo is separated into different sections: reptiles, birds, mammals, veterinary, nutrition and the knowledge farm. Living in the zoo are about 1,000 animals from 240 species. The ranges of Belo Horizonte are ramifications of the Espinhaço Mountain Range and belong to the Itacolomi Range group. Surrounding the municipality are the Jatobá, José Vieira, Mutuca, Taquaril and Curral Ranges. The highest point is located in the Curral Range, reaching 1,390 metres. Located in the rio São Francisco basin, Belo Horizonte is served by the Arrudas and Onça Streams, tributaries of the rio das Velhas. The Arrudas crosses the city from the west to the east. Towards the north is the Pampulha Stream; dammed up to create a reservoir with the same time, one of the many nooks of tourism and leisure in the city. Parque Municipal Américo Renée Giannetti Américo Renée Giannetti Municipal Park avenida Afonso Pena – phone: 3277-4161 The Parque Municipal is a large democratic space that has, for decades, been integrated in the life of Belo Horizonte. The green heart of the city’s downtown area. Pólo de Moda do Barro Preto Barro Preto Fashion Pole avenida Augusto de Lima, (area around number) 1.250 – principal avenue of the Barro Preto neighbourhood . The region is an important fashion pole of the capital. For the shopkeepers of many states, Barro Preto is a reference point. There are hundreds of confections of feminine, masculine and children’s clothing.
