Piano Registration is open for the 2015-2016

Cow Bus Route Changes: A new

TBCS 13th Annual Golf Tournament: An 18 Hole Best Ball at the beautiful Northern Lights Golf
Complex will be held on June 6, 2015. Registration is at 9:30am with a shotgun start at 10:00am.
Golf Tournament Needs: Looking for donations of beef roasts for the Golf Tournament Lunch, any
willing workers for the tournament day and your prayers during the planning of the event. Please
contact Connie Dykstra at 629-5148 if you can help us out.
Twice as Nice needs for May 11-16. Please consider helping out for a shift, mornings are from
0945 to 1:30, afternoons from 1:30 to 4:30. We could really use some strong legs and backs to
help with deliveries and pickups on Tuesday – we have trucks, coffee, treats, just show up Tuesday
morning around 10AM. There are also store volunteer needs as follows – Monday afternoon – 1,
Tuesday afternoon – 1, Thursday afternoon – 2, Friday morning – 1, Friday afternoon – 1. Please

Sadly, none of our eggs hatched this past week Wednesday. However, thanks to Ms. Tara Gilbert
we do have 6 chicks that are a couple of days old to learn more about and enjoy for a short while.
Over the past weeks we have been busily planning and preparing to host our Moms and today we
finally got to have them come in. I hope many smiles and memories were created and shared!

Grades 1 & 2 - Miss Rekman
Bible: Students did well on their Bible tests. Look for these coming home today. Next week we will
begin a short study of the New Testament, and we will be reading about the miracles of Jesus. For
memory work we will be learning a song to memorize the books of the New Testament.
Math: We have started a new unit on place value.

Reading: A "Book Talk" paper went home earlier this week. All students must present their book
talk on May 29. If you need an new handout please send a note to school.
Word Work: The new words will be printed Monday in the agenda. A reminder that the weekly quiz
is on Friday.
Science: This week we had fun flying paper airplanes in the classroom and creating rivers and
waterfalls outside in the sand pit. Next week we will look at how people use the power of water to
create electricity.
Mrs. Hawkins: Music- Students wrote Mother’s Day songs this week.
Grades 3 & 4 - Miss de Haan
Work folders come home today. Grade 3’s are nearing the end of our Multiplication Unit and a
review is coming home either today or Monday. Our Word Wall Review will be on letters from N-S.
Please continue to use the chart that was sent home with all the words. Thank you.

Mrs. Hawkins: Music- Students played recorders and learned more about sixteenth notes.
Grades 5 & 6 - Mrs. Himanen
The weeks are flying by, and it was another busy one for us as we moved through the curriculum
and worked on special Mother’s Day gifts for our wonderful moms!
The grade sixes wrote a test in math, finishing their unit on dividing decimals. They have now
begun a unit on fractions. The grade fives are almost done their math unit on dividing decimals and
will be ready for their test on Tuesday next week. Their next unit will also be on fractions.
In Science we finished studying the Circulatory System and learned how important our blood is to
transport oxygen and nutrients to all the cells in our body and to transport carbon dioxide out of the
body. The next system we will study is the Respiratory System.

In grammar we completed several different writing exercises and learned about hyperboles, word
alchemy, the Latin and Greek roots that make up so many of our words in English, and homonyms.
Next week we will study pronouns in depth.
We finished our unit on perspective in Literature, and there will be a theme test on Monday of next
week. Then we will begin a novel study using Literature Circles on the book entitled Underground
to Canada.

Tuesday: Math test - grade 5 (dividing decimals)
Mrs. Hawkins: Students learned new songs this week. Students will have playing tests over the
next few weeks. Grade 5’s may play If You’re Happy, Michael Row the Boat, or Count on Me, while
Grade 6 may play Michael Row the Boat or Count on Me.
In computers, students worked on typing and Bitstrips assignments. In art the Grade 6’s finished
their water colour art and started to learn about steam punk sculpture. The Grade 5’s continued to
work on collages.
Grades 7 & 8 - Mr. Himanen, Mrs. Voortman, Mrs. Hawkins
Mr. Himanen:
Geography- The class is presently looking at the different natural resources that we have in Canada,
and learning about all the different ways in which we use these natural resources. Next week we
will be looking at the mining industry and all the different minerals that we take out of the ground
and all the different things we make from those minerals.
History- Next week we will be continuing to look at some of the specific emperors of the Roman
Empire and how they ruled in either a positive or negative way.
Bible- We will be studying Paul's missionary voyages and the difficulties and events he encountered
as he worked to spread the gospel to the Gentiles.
Science- Next we will begin to look at the Classification of Living Things. We will look at how the
different animals are organized into their specific groupings.
Memory Work: Friday May 15- Galatians 1: 11-12
Mrs. Voortman:
Math-I am so proud of how well all of you did on our recent unit on Integers, which is a new
concept. Grade reports went home this week to be signed. We have started unit 11 on Algebra,
which is another new concept. So far, so good.

Language Arts- We have begun a short unit on the book "Night" and will be focusing on grammar in
the next few weeks. Spelling unit 29 work due on Thursday with dictation test on Friday.
Mrs. Hawkins:
Grade 7 Band- Students worked on band pieces this week. They will be getting ready for a school
performance sometime in June.
Grade 7/8 Art- Students spent time finishing up various activities. Hopefully next week we can start
our final project
