Reflection
4th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Did you tune out the second reading from Paul's First Letter to the
Corinthians today? If you have been to a lot of weddings, it is likely that
you've heard this paean to love at most of them. It's a favorite that gets
chosen again and again. And because of that, the very familiarity of the
words can lose their meaning. "'Love is patient, love is kind. It is not
jealous? It is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quicktempered, it does not brood over injury?' Oh, yeah, I know that one; I've
heard it all before. No need to listen."
Because of the context in which so
often we hear those words (a marriage
celebration) we sometimes miss what Paul
is really trying to convey. The Corinthians
were disputing among themselves what the
better gifts of the Spirit were and who had
the greater ones. Paul takes them to task,
rather harshly, by telling them that all the prophecies and sacrifices are
nothing compared to love.
We can feel righteous about many things, and our sense of justice
can breed high expectations about equitable treatment and our rights in
the world. We expect our "fair share" all the way around. Sometimes our
"gift" turns out to be one of self-justification.
Paul turns those expectations on their head. His proclamation that
love is the way suddenly put us in a different position. Love does not
seek its own interests and it does not brood over injuries. These are not
easy things to put into practice, but it is what is asked of us as believers
in Christ. Maybe that's really why we tune out these words sometimes,
because they are not easy to put into practice. But love is the essence of
our faith-love of God, and love for one another.

Intercessions for Life
For all prisoners on death row, that our Lord’s promise
of his Divine Mercy will transform their hearts and lead
them to repentance, and that, by following the example
of Divine Mercy, their lives may be spared…We pray to
the Lord.
He said to them, "Surely you will quote me this proverb,
'Physician, cure yourself,' and say, 'Do here in your native place
the things that we heard were done in Capernaum.'" - Lk 4:23

WANT TO OFFER A MASS
FOR YOUR LOVED ONE?
The faithful who make an offering so that Mass can be celebrated for a loved

We would like to receive requests for Mass Intentions that can be celebrated

Wednesday, February 3
This year’s Rose Day is scheduled to be held this
Wednesday at the Oklahoma State Capitol Building. The
date is chosen to coincide with the beginning of Oklahoma’s
Spring Legislative Session. Rose Day has two main events:
Rose Distribution to legislators and the Rose Day Rally.
The Rose Distribution begins at 10:30 am. Participants are
encouraged to bring and deliver a red rose to the office of
each of their legislators. The Rose Day Rally is held at
11:45 am in the House Chambers. The program consists of
recognition of legislators who are in attendance as well as a

What is the Taste of Sacred Heart?
The Taste of Sacred Heart is Sacred Heart School’s biggest fund
raiser. This event provides approximately 1/3 of our yearly operating
budget, and helps us to keep tuition costs affordable. Each year our
community participates in dinner and an auction. The items auctioned
consist of donated items and items created by the students of the
school. The dinner is comprised of different “food booths” from
businesses and private individuals throughout our community. Patrons
purchase tickets or reserved tables to attend this event. This is a fun
evening for everyone.
Check out the new Taste of Sacred Heart web
site. www.tasteofsacredheart.org You can purchase tickets/tables and
enter Item Donation information. The website will also have Auction
Items featured as we get closer to the event!
Reserved Tables are now available for Taste of Sacred Heart for
$300. Please call the school office if you would like one. Reserved
Tables includes seating for eight, sponsorship recognition, and eight
tickets to the event. 262-2284
We are looking for individuals to do Food Booths for Taste of Sacred
Heart. You would need to supply food for 400 people (small portions).
Tickets are now available for the Taste of Sacred Heart.
Tickets are $25
Draw Down Tickets (for a chance to win $1000) are also available for
$25. Tickets are available at Sacred Heart School and Ross True Value.
