From the Front Seat
Spring has finally arrived. The motorcycles are out in force.
Since we had our last meeting we had an afternoon ride to Sugar
Fire Restaurant. It was attended well, with a few members riding
their bikes there. It is always a great time when we get together.
We had a Rider ED class, with Co-Rider being taught. Thanks
Bob for all your help in teaching the class. After Co-Rider we had
a Member Benefits seminar being taught by Bob Phelps and Nancy Hofmann. If you haven't ever taken the class, then I'm sure you
haven't been taking advantage of all GWRRA has to offer.
The 11th of April we will be having our annual Maintenance
Day at Greg and Mary Hoette's house, 1433 Loganberry Dr. in
O'Fallon MO. off HWY K. We will be starting at 8:00 on Saturday.
Come and enjoy the day learning and sharing with each other.
The 17th we are going to Ferguson Brew House, meet there
at 7:00. We will have more info coming at the meeting and e-mail.
Also don't forget about checking the website
The 18th we are having our team riding safety seminar at
the Ann Kathryn Linnemann library at Elm and Duchene in St.
Charles. The room has been reserved from 1:00 to 3:00. So let's
get started at 1:00.
See you on the 13th at Golden Corral for our meeting.

TEAM RIDING
As members of GWRRA, most of us generally do things in groups. After all, isn’t
that why most of us joined this organization….to have someone to ride with? We
ride our bikes to and from various destinations, and there is nothing more beautiful
than to see a group of bikes riding in formation and working as a team. Each
knowing what the other is going to do, either by verbal communication through
the CB radio, or by using hand signals.
When we ride in a group, the first bike in the group is called the “Lead”. This position is preferably held by a trained person that has completed the Road Captain’s
Course.
The last bike in the group is called the “Drag” bike, or the “Tail Gunner”. This position communicates with the “lead” bike and the team by announcing turns, hazards in the road, and any other information pertinent to the ride.
The bikes in the middle of the group can enjoy the ride knowing the lead and drag
are in charge. The middle bikes do have responsibilities too, so don’t get too comfortable. It is their responsibility to pass along information about the ride such as,
passing along hand signals from the lead denoting pot holes in the road, road kill
on the road, sand or gravel in the road or in a turn, etc. The middle bikes must
STAY ALERT AT ALL TIMES! Hazards do come in the middle of the group
and you need to be prepared!
In team riding, as with any ride, each rider should “ride his/her own ride” and be
responsible for his/her own safety. It’s nice to have someone look out for your
safety, but ultimately, it is YOUR life….guard it wisely!

2015 Spring Fling Highlights
QUARTERLY/MONTHLY ATTENDANCE PRIZES
At last month’s meeting it was announced that we would no longer do the quarterly drawings for bringing attendance prizes to the meetings. It was not only becoming too costly for the chapter, but everybody had their own idea as to who got
a ticket for what. It was discussed at the last “team meeting” and decided that we
would immediately discontinue the quarterly drawings.
We do, however, GREATLY appreciate the people that bring items in for attendance prizes, and to show our appreciation we will be posting the names of those
that contributed, in our monthly newsletters. Make sure you let me know that you
brought something in so that you can be recognized.
