Ever since I graduated from high school in 1959,
I’ve been building and showing “Street Rods” as a
hobbyit seems like ever since. I’ve even had some
of my twenty-some odd creations appear within
the pages of Street Rodder, Rod & Custom,
Southern Rodder and Street Scene Magazine.
Along my street rod building journey, I have
owned a few old Chevys such as a 1954 Corvette,
1958 Impala and three ‘55 Chevys, all of which
have reminded me of my “cruising days” in high
school.
I recently sold my latest street rod project, a 1934
Plymouth Sedan, that was three years in the build
and was featured in the August ’09 Rod & Custom
Magazine. After selling my street rod, and going
through some serious “without a car withdrawal”,

I found my latest ride.
My recent find and “pride and joy” is a 1957
Chevy, Model 150, 235 six cylinder, three on the
tree numbers matching two door sedan. The only
factory option added was an AM radio. My ‘57 is
the kind of car that dreams are made of and I am
the proud third owner. The original owner was a
lady from Ft. Worth that literally only drove the
car to the grocery store on Thursdays and to and
from Church on Sundays. She drove the car forty
years without a fender bender or scratch until she
stopped driving altogether, at the insistence of her
children with the speedometer registering only
86,000 miles. The second owner, who bought the
car in 1997, spent the next dozen years doing a
frame-off restoration and finishing the project with

Mr Frosty goes back to the 50’s!
Not since the 50’s has Mr Frosty had this many
50’s era cars in the parking lot!
DACC members turned out big for
January’s Mr Frosty Meet N Greet in
Denton. The weather was a typical perfect
Texas winter day and with that along with
the great burgers and homemade Root
Beer brought the ’55-’57 Chevys out in
force! Lots of new faces and new cars
came out and we were happy to see them!
Be sure and check out the club website for
photos from the cruise in and thanks to all
the members who came out and made this
such a great afternoon of Chevys!

FROM THE PAST
Here is yet another photo from ‘back in the
day’ Now your part is to guess
WHO IS THAT PERSON?
Take a good look, take your best guess,
then check on the DACC website’s Chat
Board link under the ‘MISC’ section – and
there you will find the answer of
‘WHO IS THAT PERSON’?
(HINT – it’s 1963!)
the ‘57’s one and only repaint using original “code”
factory colors. When the project was completed a
few years ago, the Chevy took up residence in his
garage.
When the second owner retired a couple of months
ago and offered the ‘57 Chevy for sale, I jumped on
the opportunity to own a rare piece of automotive
history. Being a U.S. Army veteran, I was
privileged to be a part of the recent Veteran’s Day
Parade in Frisco, Texas and proudly displayed my
‘57 Chevy, which drew much crowd attention.

Our last ‘FROM THE PAST PHOTO’ in the
December newsletter below was -
From 1958 here is Don Andre (on the left) with his brother
at Shepard AFB in Wichita Falls. Don’s brother’s ’57 is in
the background and at the time Don had a ’55. Today Don
is the proud owner of a ’57 Bel Air and ’56 Bel Air!
My ‘57 doesn’t need much, just a few tweaks here
and there. As a new member of Dallas Area Classic
Chevys, I am looking forward to being an active
participant and anticipate showing up at local events
with my new ride.

DACC ‘Other Car’ Story
The Story of ‘Lucky’
1985 El Camino
Steve and Mary Anne Pratt
My Mom and Dad had just retired to Kerrville Texas when we visited them driving my just-acquired
1982 El Camino. Dad was so impressed with my truck that he decided to get one too. He bought
this 1985 El Camino new in October 1985 from Cecil Tindall Chevrolet in neighboring Boerne
Texas. It has a 305 V8 and 350 three speed automatic transmission. They bought a fiberglass
camper shell for it and for many years used it when they volunteered for the local Hospice
organization and the Cowboy Artist s Museum in Kerrville. This truck was well known around
town. He regularly was asked if it was for sale and his stock reply was “You’ll have to talk to my
son about it” since I jokingly laid claim to it as a “parts car”! In May of 2009 my Dad passed away
at the young age of 95 and we brought the car home to Forney. We removed the camper top,
replaced the headliner and did a little cleaning and parts replacing. We also gave him (yes, this
truck is definitely a HIM) the nickname ‘Lucky’. The name comes from an oft-repeated saying of
my Dad, “I’d rather be lucky than good.” It has over 170,000 miles, it’s on its second engine and
its third transmission, but it still runs well. I have the original keys with leather fob from Cecil
Tindall Chevrolet. Recently I came across the old license plates from my 82 El Camino, found a
new 1985 registration sticker on ebay, and registered the plates as Year Of Manufacture plates for
‘Lucky’. Current plans are to install a more aggressive engine (probably a crate motor) and 700r4
transmission, as well as restore the cosmetics and restyle the interior with leather bucket seats,
etc. But for now we are enjoying cruising it in the summer and keeping everything working.
Thanks Dad!
