“2016 Legends Cruise” New England in the Fall
For more than ten years various club members have talked about the
possibility of a CloT Cruise to New England. The subject came up again
during the holidays and several members agreed that they’re ready.
The next step is determining how many members would be interested
in a three week 4000-5000 mile cruise to New England.
The trip would begin in mid to late September. Whether the route
would include all of the New England states, CT, MA, RI, ME, VT,
NH would be determined in the planning process . . . which has
not yet begun.
Between now and the February 13th meeting, think about
whether you are interested in joining us for our next great
adventure. The foliage colors in New England in the fall can be
spectacular and the topography ranges from the Atlantic Ocean
seashore to the White Mountains. And yes, Maine lobster is
delicious. Several of those already interested in the trip have
lived in New England which will be helpful in the plannng process.
A sign-up sheet will be started at the February 13th meeting.
The trip will likely begin the 3rd or 4th weekend in September and
cover approximately 4000-5000 miles. The routes to and from New
England may be different. The planning process will develop a trip
outline that is flexible.

2016 Member of the Year John Zachary
John Zachary has been an important part of the Corvette Legends of Texas
almost from the beginning. He was recruited in a shopping center parking lot by
founding member James Gentry to come to a club meeting in 1997.
He participates in almost every function the club has. You will see him at the
State Fair and the New Car Show, exhibiting one of his Corvettes, setting up and
staffing the Legends exhibit for days. He’s always available to help set up and
staff the Autorama, take drivers home and tear down, even though he doesn’t
have a car in the exhibit.
John and his wife, Mickye rarely miss a meeting, a Sunday brunch, a dinner cruise, a parade or a road trip. He has planned and led many dinner cruises
for the club over the years. Frequently these are spontaneous and they always
involve stopping at a Dairy Queen or other ice cream shop.
Behind the scenes and in cyber space, John performs the duties of the
Legends’ Director of Communications for many years. He keeps the club web
site up and running and current. He diligently updates his data
base and sends all of our members regular email updates.
The newsletter falls under his Communications umbrella and
he’s spent many hours folding and preparing it for mailing in
past years. He doesn’t have to do that any more, since he has
recruited the current, wonderful, competent editor.
John has a 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Convertible
and a 2005 Daytona Sunset Orange Z51 Convertible, and
drives really fast. He seriously considered buying Kent Bass’
1960 Corvette, but found out he was too tall to fit into it.

The Corvette Legends of Texas, partnered with
Corvette World-Dallas for the 3rd Annual “Texas
Strong Toys for Tots” U.S. Marines Toy Drive on Dec
5th. Boxes were available at Corvette World for all
who wanted to drop off an unwrapped Toy as well.
Since there was a bit of a scheduling conflict, the
members from the Corvette Legends were only able
to attend the Toys for Tots Drive or the Lewisville
Christmas parade, but not both. This did impact the
participation to some degree.
Thanks to all the participants who woke up early
to make the Caravan. Also joining the Caravan
where other local Corvette Clubs; Corvette Club of
Texas, North Dallas Corvette Club, and the Lone
Star Corvette Club. Corvette Legends and Corvette
World-Dallas had lots of support and information
available from their different Facebook postings and
other social media. It is estimated that there were
about 70 Corvettes of all generations in the Caravan that left the Corvette World-Dallas parking lot,
led by the North Texas Motorcade Escort team. The
Caravan proceeded down Interstate 35 to Pappasito’s Cantina on Lombardy Lane in Dallas this time.
What a beautiful day for a caravan. The weather
was just cool enough for a jacket, and sunglasses
were a must. The North Texas Motorcade team did
a great job of managing the traffic and the route
to get all the Corvettes there safe and sound and
almost filled up the Pappasito’s parking lot.
When the U.S. Marines arrived, Corvette WorldDallas set up all the Toys for Tots boxes they had
brought. The Caravan started filling boxes, and fill
them they did. There were about 15 boxes full of
unwrapped toys. A few gifts had to be stored to the
side as they were too big for the boxes (i.e. Bicycles). After all the toys were dropped off, Pappasito’s opened up and many of the Corvette Legends
piled in for some great food and conversations over
lunch.
Planning for next year will start soon, so we can
try to increase the amount of support and donations
for the U.S Marines Toys for Tots Drive in 2016.

ANSWERS FROM PAGE 9:
1.The Gold V indicating the presence (introduction)
of the V-8 is only on the 1955 Corvette.
2.The Corvette Cross Flag emblem has a RedWhite-Blue bar under the flags on the 1962 Corvette.
3.The 1973 Corvette saw the disappearance of the
chrome front bumper. The chrome rear bumper
stayed until the next year.
4.The Vent designs on the Mid-Year Corvettes help
define the specific years, but only the 1967 had the
unique Five Gill design.
5.The traditional two-taillight design prevalent from
1961 through today was changed to one tail light
and one back-up light in 1966.
6.Probably the one most known One-Year Feature
was the 1963 Split Window.
10
7.1974 saw the conversion of the Corvette to the
molded body bumpers. The chrome bumper would
never be seen again. But the first molded rear
bumper (on the 74) was a two piece bumper. In 75
it became a one piece design.
8. Similar to the 63 Split Window Coupe, the 1958
Corvette is one of the most easily recognized years
with its massive trunk spears. Although there are
other unique features on the 58 the Spears are
most easily seen.
9. All the Mid-Year Corvettes (63 thru 67) carry the
Sting Ray badge on the right rear deck. But only
the 1966 has the emblem on the left front hood
also. The original GM design spelled Stingray as
one word. No one knows how it was separated in
two in production.
