Box 888 Phoenix, AZ 85001-0888 602-379-1726 www.azcardinals.com/community ON THE CALENDAR Sept. 25 VOLUME 4, ISSUE 2 ON THE FIELD: Rolando Roel Cantú Chávez is the 1st Mexican (non-kicker) football player to cross over from the Mexican college leagues ( ITESM campus Monterrey) into the NFL. Cantú played one year in NFL Europe (Berlin Thunder 2004) where he stared 10 games at right guard on the offensive line, including the World bowl Championship XII in NFLE. As a champion of the European league, the Arizona Cardinals picked him up that same year where he spent the next 3 years. Gatorade Jr. Training Camp Sept. 25 SRP/Safeway Milk and Cookies KINGPIN CHALLENGE The Cardinals and Cardinals Charities will once again host the team’s major fall fundraising event “Kingpin Challenge” on Monday, October 8 at Brunswick Kyrene Lanes (6225 W. Chandler Blvd., Chandler) from 5:309:30 PM. The evening will include bowling with the players and coaches, a silent auction and appearances by Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders and Big Red. OFF THE FIELD: Rolando currently serves as Manager of International Business ventures for the Arizona Cardinals Football Club as well as Color Analyst on the Cardinals Spanish Broadcast Team. Campamento Rolando Cantú (Rolando Cantu’s Kids Camps) has had 17 camps so far throughout the Mexican Republic with 150 plus active players and NFL Alumni. Team president Michael Bidwill, Room Store marketing manager Dan Selznick and Tammy Bohannon of the Ronald McDonald House joined K Jay Feely, TE Jeff King, defensive quality control coach Ryan Slowik and wife Valerie, Dreama Graves (wife of general manager Rod Graves), Alice Whisenhunt (wife of head coach Ken Whisenhunt) and team mascot Big Red at the ceremony. The Arizona Cardinals Women’s Club continues their monthly visits to the Ronald McDonald House to serve dinner to the families staying on site. With the help of the Room Store, the wives of Cardinals players and front office staff completely furnished a two bedroom apartment at the Ronald McDonald House with brand new furniture, televisions and draperies. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix provides a welcoming “home-away-from-home” for children and their families who travel to Phoenix to receive medical treatment for serious, often life-threatening illnesses and injuries. They help lessen the burden by ensuring families have the stability they need to support their children by providing an atmosphere of comfort, hope and courage while also supporting programs that directly benefit children and their families in the community.
