Learn about resources, organizations and support groups in the Kansas City area available to caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The focus of the program is on self-determination and self-direction in order to promote independence. Remember the Heritage Center in your Will or Trust Tuesday, November 19 Enjoy an all day Amtrak train excursion to historical Jefferson City. Eat lunch (on your own) upon arrival at the Grand Café located near the train station. Participants will then walk a short distance to the Capital District and will be given guided tours of the Missouri State Capital and the Governor’s Mansion. Ample time is available to tour the Governor’s Garden and the historical landmarks near the railroad station. Prior to leaving Jefferson City enjoy an ice cream nosh (on your own) at the highly rated Central Dairy. This trip requires a lot of walking and participants must provide their own transportation to and from the Amtrak Station in Lee’s Summit, Missouri (16 mi from JCC). The cost for the Amtrak roundtrip ticket is $37.40. The train will depart at 8:51 am and return at 8:50.pm. This is not a Heritage Center sponsored program. A Saint Luke’s South Hospital orthopedic nurse will lead the discussion about when to visit your doctor, what joint replacement involves, and other information about joint health. AARP Driver Safety Class Mon/Tue Nov 11/12 10:00am-3:00pm Board Room Cost: $12.00 AARP Members/$14.00 nonmembers All insurance companies selling auto insurance in Kansas must by law offer you a discount on your present auto insurance premium for attending this state approved program. This two day course is a mix of video and instructor presentations and you will be issued a certificate to present to your insurance carrier. Pay instructor day of class. Check the Prime Times monthly for the most current schedule. Blood Pressure readings are taken each month, glucose test will be given in the odd months. The glucose test does require a 2 hour fast. Pickleball is a great sport for beginners and experienced players. Traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special Pickleball paddles made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball, but slightly smaller. Jewish Senior Network (JSN) works with you and your family to assess those challenges and address them. JSN is an established program of Jewish Family Services (JFS). Financial Assistance Sometimes we all hit bumps in the road where a little help is needed. If you are experiencing such bumps, we’re here to help. We make every effort to ensure our programs are barrier free. To learn if you qualify for reduced rate or free of charge programs please complete a Financial Assistance Application Form. Forms are available at the Heritage Center office. Transportation Transportation to and from the Heritage Center is a service provided by the Jewish Community Center. Limited door-to-door rides are available Monday through Friday. New riders should call the Heritage Center for assistance in setting up their first ride. Cost is $2 each way. Bubbe’s Kitchen The Heritage Center is a great place for a delicous, fresh meal. Lunch is served Monday through Friday at noon. Reservation should be made in advance. To make a reservation call the reservation line at 913-327-8243 and leave a message. Reservations are taken up to two weeks in advance. If you don’t like the main entree, no problem. We offer the following alternatives with advance notice: egg salad, tuna salad, gefilte fish and garden salad. Cost is $5. Also enjoy frozen carryout meals such as barley soup, matzo ball soup, blintzes and cabbage rolls. 8
