Over 50 health care professionals from around Mercer County
attended the Connect to Transit Workshop on June 28, 2016 at
the Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Fitness & Wellness Center. The workshop was made possible through the collaboration of
Greater Mercer TMA, NJTIP@Rutgers and RWJ Hospital. The NJTIP and GMTMA Travel Trainers introduced participants to ways in which they can
help eliminate transportation as a barrier to accessing health care, including the following
topics: Services available in Mercer County and specific municipalities,
Trip planning tools,
Transit mobile apps,
Accessible features for seniors and people with disabilities,
How to obtain tickets and pay cash fares, and
Transfers between providers. For Travel Training questions and workshop inquiries, please contact Chad Dixson

No Summer Break for Safety Greater Mercer TMA’s Ian Henderson, had a
busy week at the NJ shore, as two
communities celebrated Safety Day events. On June 21st he was at the Mantoloking Yacht
Club meeting with over 30 students age 614
for the bike/pedestrian program safety kick
off. Ian headed next to Bay Head on June 23rd
and 28th, to the Bay Head Yacht Club members
in elementary and middle school and teenager
members of Bay Head’s beach cleaning crew.
The events were organized in collaboration with elected officials and community leaders.
Street Smart Campaign Aims to Save Lives On June 29th, North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority kicked off their 2016 Street
Smart Jersey Shore safety campaign on Long Beach Island. The goal of the campaign is to
curb the number of pedestrian accidents, by changing both motorist and pedestrian
behavior through education and enforcement. The campaign began in 2013 with five pilot locations and has expanded this year to include
twenty communities throughout the NJTPA region. The Federal Highway Administration
(FHWA) has designated New Jersey a “focus” state due to the high incidence of pedestrians
killed and injured in motor vehicle crashes. Greater Mercer TMA will join the campaign in the coming months. Follow us on social media to see when we launch the campaign. Bicyclists are Winners This year over 130 cyclists participated in Greater Mercer TMA's Bike month activities.
