Many organizations confuse customer expectation and customer
experience. Customer expectation is measured by price, quality, quantity,
durability, etc, while customer experience is measured through ease of
the transaction, problem management, personal assistance, and attention
to detail. Success in providing value to a customer comes when both
expectation and experience are met. The marketplace demands
quality, delivered quickly at a good price. Service performance is all about
getting the job done and “then some.” Process performance is the
engine that produces customer value and brings consistency through
best practices and procedures. People performance is what makes
companies stand out in the crowd and differentiates them on a basis
other than cost. Partner performance is the value that comes from a
single company being able to perform numerous service functions for
the customer as a result of having picked their vendors
and suppliers carefully.

John Mason has accepted the role of director of FBO sales and
client relations. In this new position, he will be dedicated to strengthening our bond with our most valuable asset…our customers. He will
work closely with Paul Rose and the Banyan technical sales team to
continue to provide the finest customer service in the industry!
Jon Tonko has accepted the responsibilities of director of customer
support. Previously his role was line service manager. In his new
position, he will be responsible for the leadership, organization and
management of the customer support team including hangar, leasing
and business development of Banyan’s 85 acre complex as well as
assuming all financial responsibilities of the department.

Wonders of the Ocean
Thanks to Craig Dietrich, you don’t have to put on a wet suit and breathe
with a regulator to experience some dramatic images from the ocean. All
you have to do is visit the Banyan lobby and take a look at his art display.
One side of his display features color prints of sharks, fish, and dolphins that
explode with vibrant colors. The other side of the display offers black and
white prints that illustrate the play of light in the ocean. His work is available for sale in various sizes and prices range from $120 for an 11” X 14”,
to $575 for a 24” X 36”.
“Craig is a very passionate about photography and scuba diving. His photos
are especially amazing considering he once had a fear of water and what
might be waiting below the surface,” says Nancy Bouvier, Banyan’s director
of marketing. “We are pleased to host his display here.”
Craig is a scuba instructor and offers underwater photography instruction along with camera sales and rentals through Pompano Dive Center.

Banyan Receives FXE ACE Awards
The FXE “Achievements in Community
Excellence (ACE) Awards” took place
since our last newsletter and we are honored that several Banyan teammates were
recognized. Terry Schuler, Daniel Day, Les
Bowser, Gary Johnson, Murray Zacharia, and Paul Wallis received ACE Awards
for operating safely on the Airport Movement area for the past ten years and Charles
Amento, Rob Tuttle, Randall Klebon, and
Kenneth Gibson also received recognition
for operating safely for the past five years.
Don Campion and Shawn Mack accepted the awards on behalf of the
Banyan teammates that were unable to attend.
Congratulations also to Jet Runway Café. They received the 2012 Special
Recognition Award for outstanding service and contributions to the City of
Fort Lauderdale, area businesses and the community. Mike Linder accepted
the award on behalf of Jet Runway Café.
FXE Aviation Safety Expo
There’s Spirit at Banyan
On Saturday, March 2, 2013 Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport hosted its
third FXE Aviation Safety Expo. This event promotes aviation and runway
safety for all South Florida general aviation pilots, student pilots, aircraft
owners and operators. The expo included speakers, exhibits, presentations,
aviation educational groups, static aircraft display, refreshments and prize
drawings.
Banyan was pleased to participate along with other exhibitors: Fort
Lauderdale Executive Airport, Vital Flight, National Business Aviation
Association, Federal Aviation Administration, Broward College, Everglades
University, Florida Institute of Technology, Seaplane Pilots Association,
Sano Jet Center, and the South Florida Business Aviation Association.
The Civil Air Patrol Color Guard opened the event followed by
Anthony Lederman, FAA Tower Manager at FXE; Dennis Dodge, Frontline
Manager FAA Air Traffic Control – Miami TRACON; Steve McCaughey,

Our Head Coach, Don Campion, believes that Banyan has a spirit that
engages the mind, hearts and souls of our team. With that in mind, several
years ago, a special spirit committee was formed to coordinate and promote
events that align with Banyan’s values and reflect the spirit of our team.

The Safety Expo was followed by afternoon sessions conducted by the
Federal Aviation Administration, Flight Standards District Office-19 and
FAASTeam. Attending pilots received WINGS credit for the FAA WINGSPilot Proficiency Program. Next year’s event will take place in March.
On a quarterly basis, the Banyan Spirit Committee comprised of representatives from every Banyan department meet to discuss companywide issues
that promote teammate participation. All teammates are asked to provide
feedback to their representatives before the meeting, so all opinions can be
shared in the decisions of the committee.
At the most recent meeting the discussion revolved around the annual
company picnic, the Big Cardio Fitness & Fun Day, Banyan’s smallest
winner contest and the teammate gym. Previous meetings addressed
insurance matters, volunteer efforts for Banyan’s corporate charity – 4KIDS
of South Florida, health fairs, and the annual holiday party.
After the Spirit Committee meetings, the department representatives share
the results of the meeting with the members in their department so everyone
knows what’s happening.
“The Spirit Committee is one way that ensures all 160 plus Banyan
teammates have a voice in the events and issues we work on,” says
Jessica Smallacombe, Banyan’s spirit committee leader and people relations
coordinator. “It’s a pleasure to work for a company that cares about its team

and makes it enjoyable to come to work.”
Customer Spotlight – Airborne Systems Flight School
Maria Canon, Chief Executive Officer, and Vinny Billisi, Operations
Manager, of Airborne Systems Flight School are passionate about
aviation. They have trained over 1,000 students and have issued over 3,000
certificates and ratings since opening in 1992. Their FAA-141 approved
training facility is a Cessna Training Center that focuses on safety, individual
needs, and has an unparalleled state-of-the-art pilot training program. Their
training standards result in their students being recruited for airline positions
and other major pilot careers.
While they have students ranging from the casual pilot to career pilots, they
are recognized as a professional training school for full program students.
“We are a boutique school and don’t try to fit everyone into the same training box. All our training is conducted on a one-on-one basis,” says Vinny.
“Our commitment is to provide individual attention and customize training
according to individual needs because flight training is rarely one-size-fitsall. Students learn at different rates and that’s okay because the results are
safer, smarter and more disciplined pilots.”
Training students to high standards depends on the instructors and Airborne
has 11 hand-picked instructors that must meet extremely high qualifications.
Airborne offers cutting edge technology which provides students with a
definite edge. They have 13 training aircraft all late models (Cessna 172,
Cessna 182, and a Diamond DA-42) that are all technically advanced
aircraft (TAA) with G1000 cockpits. They also use computer
multi-media programs for training, have 3 Red Bird simulators and also

NATA Excellence in Pilot Training Award
Congratulations to Airborne Systems Flight School on being a recipient of the NATA Excellence in Pilot Training Award for their outstanding contributions in safety, professionalism, leadership and excellence
in the field of pilot training. NATA presented the award during the
NATA Industry Excellence Awards Dinner held on April 22 at the
Renaissance Capital View in Arlington, Virginia. The dinner was held
in conjunction with its Aviation Business & Legislative Conference.

FXE US Customs Hours Now 8 AM - 9 PM
We have good news! We are pleased to announce that the US Customs
and Border Protection (CBP) have decided to restore their normal hours of
operation. As of May 5, the normal hours of operation returned to 8 am 9 pm daily at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.

For a second year, Florida Governor Rick Scott has recognized the value
of general aviation to the state in a recently signed proclamation declaring
April General Aviation Appreciation Month. A similar proclamation was
signed in June 2011.
In his declaration, the Governor acknowledged general aviation plays a
major role in the lives of Floridians as well as in the growth of commerce and
tourism across the state. General aviation, the proclamation states, “plays a
vital role in the state’s response to emergencies and natural disasters.”

On Wings of Hope Movie Premier
On April 8, Banyan was honored to host film maker, Pascal Depuhl for his
movie premiere, On Wings of Hope. This 15-minute film is a documentary
about a humanitarian mission performed by pactec.org involving a King Air
and KODIAK aircraft. The PACTEC group worked together to get a small
boy that was injured in Afghanistan to a medical facility.
The Experience the Bahamas seminar had a full house in the Sabal Palm Conference room.
On April 22, Richard Haughton, Banyan Pilot Shop manager, welcomed
around 30 guests to the Sabal Palm Conference room for a seminar about
the Bahamas.
John Obradovich, Publisher of the Bahamas & Caribbean Pilot’s Guide
presented Flying to the Islands Made Easy followed by Leonard Stuart,
from The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism presenting Where to stay and what
to do in the Bahamas.
Seminar participants enjoyed the presentations, received information
packets and had many questions answered. Additional seminars are being
considered for future dates.

Aircraft Sales Market Update

For ten years now Banyan has been a member of the
prestigious National Aircraft Resale Association (NARA).
The organization is comprised of 37 of the industries most established and respected new
and pre-owned aircraft dealers along with an Associate
membership comprised of 42 of the industries best aviation
service providers. Each spring the organization holds an annual conference of the full membership to discuss the state-ofthe-industry that leaves us all either encouraged or discouraged.
I just returned from this year’s meeting and I’m more encouraged about the future than ever! Each of the aircraft dealers
and industry service providers that attended were “cautiously
optimistic” and reported an increase in overall business from the
previous few years. Several of the dealers in attendance actually
reported that 2012 was the best sales year in their long history!
While it appears several aircraft models are very slow to sell,
there are equally as many models that are experiencing brisk
domestic sales. The data research firm Amstat reported that 13% of
the jet market and only 8.2% of the pre-owned turboprop market is
actively “For Sale.” These numbers represent a significant
improvement since the economic down-turn we experienced
in 2008. Our own research has revealed the difficulty locating
pristine aircraft at fire sale prices. Today’s prices of most makes and
models are still below the 2007 industry high water mark. It’s encouraging for the dealer community to find the actual inventory levels
declining and doesn’t take an economist to see that declining
inventories of pre-owned aircraft will soon yield increased prices.

Egbe Update
One Doctor for every 4000 People
The main hospital building is going up quick.
New pump just installed to supply the hospital with water.
One of the hazards — all kinds of deadly snakes.
If you had an accident, fell from a palm tree while harvesting coconuts,
contracted malaria or were bit by a snake, what does one do if the closest hospital
is 3 hours away over horrible roads full of washouts and potholes? The answer
to that question is what inspired Banyan’s president, Don Campion and his wife
Sueanne to jump into action in the rebuilding of Egbe Hospital located in the
bush in Nigeria. As the Revitalization Project Leader, Don is working along-side
SIM, Samaritan’s Purse and World Medical Mission for the 3rd year constructing
Banyan teammate just spent 30 days at Egbe fixing anything that has an engine.
new hospital buildings, updating the houses for medical staff, building a water
reservoir and purification system for thehospital, shipping medical equipment
and recruiting doctors, nurses, maintenance and construction personal to live and
work at the hospital. There are several American families living there, numerous
volunteers that have come from the USA and Canada. Don and Sueanne join
them 3 times a year with groups that always include a Banyan teammate. On the
hospital compound they are manufacturing cement blocks, building our furniture
and fabricating roof trusses as they rebuild the compound. To learn more about

During the 56th annual AEA convention and tradeshow in Las Vegas,
Brian Wilson, Banyan’s director of avionics was introduced as the newly
elected member of the Board of Directors. Founded in 1957, the Aircraft
Electronics Association (AEA) represents more than 1,300 aviation businesses, including repair stations that specialize in maintenance, repair
and installation of avionics and electronic systems in general aviation
aircraft. Brian will serve a 3 year term and participate in various committees designed to promote and assist the 1,300 member organization.

(IFEC):
The Banyan Avionics department continues to stay busy by outfitting many different airframes with Connectivity. The demand to
“stay connected” and have internet access, email, voice and text
remains very strong in our industry. Avionics has economical solutions for any aircraft and have outfitted airframes ranging from
the smallest Citation to the larger Boeing models. Combined with
Streaming Video on Demand (SVOD), the passenger is able to
watch movies, view the moving map, browse the internet and review email all from their personal smartphone or tablet.

Banyan grows along with our customers
Recently, two of Banyan’s long-term customers upgraded their aircraft to the Learjet 45. One customer transitioned from a Beechjet
400A and the other from a Learjet 31A. At the request of our customers and to fill a real need for support in this area, Banyan Air
Service has made the investment in tooling and training to add the
Lear 45 to our Part 145 repair station. Banyan Air Service recognizes that when our customer’s succeed, then we also succeed and

James Raisbeck Receives High Honor of
Fellow from AIAA
Congratulations to Dr. James D.
Raisbeck on the prestigious grade
of Fellow from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
(AIAA). He is among a small group
of 27 recipients nationwide to receive this high distinction in 2013.
Raisbeck has been active in the
AIAA organization and its predecessor since 1960. In addition, he has been an active and consistent contributor to the aerospace industry and aircraft operators in
the areas of aircraft design and aerodynamic innovation throughout
these past 53 years. He continues as Founder and CEO of Raisbeck
