Royal Military College of Canada Class of 1984 30th Anniversary Yearbook Contents 1. Personal Narrative 2. Aggregated Class Survey Results Joel Anderson 13831anderson@gmail.com Children : Natalie (23) Lara (20) Lachlan (18) Current Job : Information Security Analyst, MARPAC HQ, RCN Hobbies/Pastimes : Bagpipes (still!) Calligraphy Tai Chi Dance (formal ballroom, swing, salsa, bachata) Genealogy Narrative since graduation : Headed to CFOCS Chilliwack right after graduation to be on staff for course 8405, then back to Kingston for CELE and Signal Officer training at CFSCE. Spent time after MOC qualification as an instructor and then off to RV 85 to join 1 Cdn Sig Regt in the field. Given command of Alpha Tp, which put me right of the line and the first to give commands on parade (OK, so the time in Pontiac Sqn and the Band did not help much there...). Umpire Signal Officer for REFORGER 86 in (then) West Germany. Posted to Ottawa in 1988, and then to Chilliwack in 1991, leaving there on promotion to Maj, to attend CLFCSC in Kingston and then get posted to 1 Cdn Div HQ. Several interesting jaunts, including the big effort for the floods in Manitoba, but missed the Rwanda/Zaire excursion by a matter of hours. Posted back to Ottawa in 1997. Escaped there in 1999, back to Army Doctrine in Kingston. Retired from the Reg Force in 2001 and moved to Vancouver Island as a Reservist with BC Communication Regiment, which eventually became 74 Comm Gp. Transitioned in civilian life to Public Service role in MARPAC HQ. Took over command of the Gp on promotion to LCol in 2010, and oversaw the transition to 39 Signal Regiment. On personal life side, decided to slow down and enjoy life a bit more, meeting Jill again in 2013, and learning to make time for the more important things! Kate Armstrong katearmstrong13@me.com (604)655-9313 1303 -1331 Homer Street Vancouver, BC V6B5M5 Canada Current Job : Writer Hobbies/Pastimes : Starting at sixteen years old, obtaining my Glider Pilot licence as an Air Cadet, I established myself as a confirmed adrenaline junkie. My life has been a series of engaging in adrenaline based hobbies. After leaving the military in 1993, I returned to BC and became obsessively involved in the Whitewater Kayaking scene, ensconced myself into a group of likeminded paddlers and spent years taking trips all over the Pacific Northwest paddling rivers and exploring nature in ways not possible by any other means. Eventually, I exhausted my passion for paddling, and took up sailing. I bought a 40 sailboat in 2004, a C&C Northeast 39, and promptly took a 13 month sabbatical from work to sail from Vancouver to California to Mexico to French Polynesia and back home via Hawaii. My boat's name is s/v Fourth Dimension and she is my money pit in absence of having children. My recreational interests include golfing, hiking, etc. as well. My counselling degree program was originally as a tool to help me work through some of my life issues, and it turned into a passionate pursuit for self acceptance and being of service to others on the same path. The program brings depth and breadth to my understandings of the human condition and turns out to be an incredible insight asset to support my writing aspirations. I write. I knit. I am addicted to HBO series and like to binge them by waiting until the entire series is complete before starting (Unless I have the misfortune of falling in love with one that is still ongoing - Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, True Detective, The Knick). I have been known to play the Lord of the Rings trilogy over and over while I do chores around the house as my alternative to music. Another recent pastime, is living in reality. I stopped colouring my hair in May 2014 and am embracing the silver grey slowly exposing my authentic self. I only add that, because the survey was male centric - thinning and balding is not our drama, grey is. Kate Armstrong Continued Family : For much of my life, I realize now, I was constitutionally incapable of having a healthy relationship elationship. I made great attempts on several occasions, even getting married twice. Once right after RMC and then again ten years later during my BCH career. To no avail. When I was about 38 years old, I embraced my response to the inevitable question about having kids and starting using it unabashedly. "I forgot to have kids." I always meant to have them, but it didn't work out. And I am perfectly happy to report being in a healthy loving relationship with Rick Kutzner which started several years ago and appears to be sustainable. We recently purchased a male black lab puppy together named 'Jackson'. His eyes just opened this week and he is scheduled to come home with us immediately after Ex-cadet weekend. The word 'Kula' in sanscrit means family of the heart. And there is not space enough to write about all the people I love and care about like family in this world. Narrative since graduation : After graduation, I completed my SSE contract as a Supply Logistics Officer posted to CFB Kingston, DSM NDHQ Ottawa, and 1CFSD CFB Downsview Toronto. I took my release after the nine years were complete, accepted my golden handshake and moved home to Vancouver, BC in 1993. My first civilian job was working for BC Hydro as a Labour Relations Officer. After three years in that role, I accepted a one year posting to Terrace, BC as the Skeena Coastal Customer Service Area Manager in 1996. At this time, the electricity energy industry was commencing deregulation following suit from the gas industry. My career in the trading field started as a Transmission Scheduling Manager in BCH Grid Operations, establishing the wholesale wheeling tariff and bringing the transmission trading system on line. In 1998, I accepted a Real Time Trading position at Powerex Corp, a subsidiary of BCH, . trading electricity in the newly establish North American electricity trading market. Two years later, I accepted a position as a Marketing Manager in Powerex, negotiating long term structured electricity trade deals in the US Southwest (Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and California). I stayed in this role until my retirement in 2013 adapting and adjusting to the every changing industry seeing it through from early days, Enron crisis, Renewable energy regulations and leaving on the cusp of Carbon Credit markets evolving. During my years at Powerex, I went back to school and enrolled in a three year Counselling Therapy Program, graduating in 2013 as a Registered Professional Counsellor. I was accepted into a Master program for counselling starting the fall of 2013, and took a last minute right turn in career choice. I gave myself permission to chase a life long dream of finishing my creative non-fiction novel. Through the winter, I completed the first draft of my book and am in the process of first revision in the editing process for Publication. I have several other projects already bubbling on the back burner, and look forward to a long writing career. Seeing myself complete the list is a 'bucket list' life goal of mine. Jay Campbell jay.camp777@gmail.com (250)897-0675 4640 Kilmarnock Drive Courtenay, British Columbia V9N9S7 Canada Spouse : Kathy Wedding Year : 1985 Children : Danielle (24), Paige (22) Current Job : Aircraft Captain - Cathay Pacific Airways Family: Still with the same girl, Kathy who has been my partner for over 30 years. Two daughters, the oldest studying Optometry and the other a recent grad from RMC in Civil Engineering, (so I have been back to Kingston quite a few times in the last few years). Hobbies/Pastimes : Everything to do with cycling. I have a collection of bikes in the basement that keep me busy tinkering, and we are lucky to have great roads and trails nearby to explore. I also have spent many hours in the gym with volleyball over the years, previously as a player, but now that the top of the net seems a lot higher, I spend most of my time coaching. I am also mildly addicted to fishing, and do spend some time enjoying different wines and coffees of the world. Narrative since graduation : The usual route for a pilot - wings, one operational tour on the Aurora, then on to instructing in Greenwood, NS. Shortly after my Career Manager interview in 1990, when it became obvious that everything the previous Career Mangler had promised had evaporated, I decided to manage my own career and out went the applications. Cathay Pacific was the airline I wanted to work for, so off I went to Hong Kong in 1991. Luckily overseas basings started up in 1994, so I was able to transfer to Vancouver and have been living in Comox ever since. 10 years as a First Officer on the 747, 10 as a Captain on the A340 and now on the B777. Over the years I have managed to touch base with some classmates in different locations such as NYC, PER, SYD, ANC, YOW, YYC, LAX, YYC, and HKG. Elizabeth Caswell elizabeth.caswell@Hp.com Spouse : James Wedding Year : 2006 Children : Julien (15) Clara (12) Current Job : Manager for Hewlett Packard Hobbies/Pastimes Still love working out - running, cycling (really want to do the Cabot trail again or something similar in Europe), aerobics, weights, cross-training Riding!!! Super-fun trips singing in wonderful cathedrals. Spending time with my dogs -- one of which is a certified Therapy Dog called Murphy (after Murphy's Stout Beer). We visit the oncology ward of the Ottawa Children's Hospital and also a senior's residence on a weekly basis. He's also certified as a R.E.A.D dog - Reading Education Assistance Dog -- I take him to libraries to be a non-judgmental audience for kids who have difficulty reading. He's GREAT at it! Narrative since graduation : Left the military after minimum service Worked at Lockheed Martin on the EST Challenger project - did my MBA part-time. Then jumped from being a military contractor into IT and joined Systemhouse. Since then, I've been with the same company for 18 years, although it has gone through several face-lifts (aka take-overs) along the way -- MCI, WorldCom, EDS and now HP. Doug Chess jdchess@mymts.net 15 West Avenue Winnipeg, Manitoba R3K 0E4 (204)489-2798 Spouse : n/a (divorced in 2005) Children : None I am aware of..... Current Job : Instructional staff at CFSAS (PRes) Family : Nothing came of a 16+ year marriage that ended peacefully in 2004/5. According to my Winnipeg friends I am now "living the dream" single (with a special friend!), employed, healthy (relatively speaking), no debt (recent house purchase excepted) and a few nice toys. Hobbies/Pastimes : Sports mostly. I run a small home-based business focusing on golf and racquet sports. Keeps me busy when I am not either working or playing. Narrative since graduation : What can I say. As some of my classmates may have long suspected, in my military career I toiled away for over 34 years in relative anonymity and never made much of an impact. A year in Borden learning what they thought AERE Officers were supposed to do then on to Summerside PEI only to find out it was something altogether different - and a whole lot more fun! After a short stint as a baby pilot (this, too, was supposed to be fun but quickly turned into work) I returned to NDHQ where I spent 7 years in DGAEM. In 1995, I left the nations capital for Winnipeg, where I spent the next 19+ years, occasionally moving from one job to another. I semi-retired in 2011 (transferred to the Reserves) and recently bought a house - my first and last - using what I referred to as "Project Final Resting Place" in recognition of the final move I earned from DND. Despite the tone (self-deprecating sarcasm is one of my bad habits), I have truly enjoyed my time where ever I was. I usually enjoyed the work, but always enjoyed the people. Made new friends and lost a few along the way. I continue to stay active playing golf, hockey and squash (ask Rich Foster about my killer drop shot!) and thanks to RMC I still cannot simply walk up a flight of stairs. Ever since rook term, I have to take them 2 at a time. Bruce Ewing ewing123456789@sympatico.ca (613)531-5868 53 Chartwell Cres, Kingston, Ontario K7K 6P2 Canada Spouse : Colleen Wedding Year : 1993 Children : Simon (18) Riley (17) Current Job : Director Individual Training and Education at CDA HQ in Kingston Family : My wife is a critical care nurse who works casual at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. She has since we married in 1993 continued to drive to Ottawa about one weekend per month to work there no matter whether we were living in Petawawa, Trenton, or Kingston. My oldest son is starting second year at RMC taking civil engineering and is going to become a Military Engineer. He is actually in the same dorm (Fort Haldimand) where I spent my 4 years at RMC. My youngest son is finishing high school this year and is still undecided as to what he wants to do in life but will apply to the ROTP. Hobbies/Pastimes : Most important is just trying to spend time with my family as I have been on Imposed Restrictions and deployed for much of the past 10 years. Running, golf, downhill skiing, taking the boys water skiing, and hopefully next year, sailing, have been my main pastimes. Soon however it will mostly consist of being in warmer weather down south with my wife. Narrative since graduation : Had a great career doing lots of extremely exciting things, travelling all over the world, and got paid for it. Spent 10 years and 5 postings in Infantry Battalions including 1RCR, 3RCR and the Canadian Airborne Regiment in Winnipeg, Baden-Baden, and Petawawa. Foreign postings include 1 year in Baden-Baden Germany with 3RCR and 3 years in Atlanta Georgia as an Exchange Officer with US Army. Operational tours include 6 months in Cyprus (UNFICYP), 12 months in Croatia (UNPROFOR), 19 months in Afghanistan (ISAF), and 2 months in Haiti (Op HESITA). Was fortunate to command several units including the Canadian Parachute Centre (CPC), the CF Joint Headquarters, and the DART for a total of 5 years as a CO. Received CLS Commendation as CO of CPC and CDS Commendation while CO of DART in Haiti and recently named as Officer in OMM. Obtained Masters in War Studies from RMC in 2013. Just recently finished a tour in the Strategic Joint Staff and as of this summer I am on my retirement posting in Kingston with 35 years of service complete in Dec 2014. I played rugby for about 15 years after graduation until my body developed too many little structural problems. Steven Gable steven19614@hotmail.com 8 Prince of Wales Drive Ontario Barrie Canada Spouse : Dianne Children : Sabrina (19) Current Job : Associate Engineer at AMEC Americas Ltd. Hobbies/Pastimes : I love to ski, coach football in the spring/summer and still play in a men's league in the fall. We like to travel around the world. Each year is a different destination. We are also visiting each of the 32 NFL stadiums for game, plus a Super Bowl and a Pro Bowl(when it is back in Hawaii). We are 1/3 of the way through. Family : I have one daughter named Sabrina. She is now 19 and loves soccer and writing. My best friend is Dianne, who puts up with a lot from me. But... really.. I kind of think I am worth it. Narrative since graduation : Since graduation, I completed my services with the fleet and then moved to California for a few years where I started my consulting career. Living in California gave me the opportunity to indulge two of the things I enjoy most: Skiing (in the Sierra Nevada) and Sailing (out of San Francisco Harbour). I returned to Canada in the late 90s and continued consulting, which enabled me to travel as far east as the Ukraine to take part in ICBM decommissioning as part of the SALT treaties. Also had the opportunity to return a second time to conduct work in southern Ukraine at the City of Zaphorzhe. Randy Harvey harvey.ra@xplornet.com Ontario Angus Canada Spouse : Alix Ironside Wedding Year : 1985 Children : Paige (24) Vivian (22) Current Job : Client Service Officer, Base TIS, CFB Borden Hobbies/Pastimes : Taoist Tai Chi, Beekeeping Family Our two girls, Paige and Vivian are doing well. Paige has decided to also seek a career in the IT field she's nearly done college and will be looking for work soon - hint, hint. Vivian is in her fourth year at U of Guelph taking biological sciences. She's looking at a graduate program in genetic counselling for next year. Alix and I are hoping to retire or at least semi-retire within the next few years. We'll be married 30 years as of Aug 2015. Randy Harvey Continued Narrative since graduation : Upon completion of CELE (Air) training in 1985, posted to Ottawa where I worked on software maintenance for the Strategic Message Switching System (that thing that gave you all your wonderful posting messages). I then spent two years at U of Ottawa to compete a MASc (Elec Eng). I stayed in Ottawa for another posting, this time with the satellite communications engineering section. Then a year at Portage la Prairie as the BTelO, helped to close the base in 1992, promoted to Major and then back to Ottawa. In Ottawa, I managed a $500M capital project to conduct a study to eventually build what was in essence DND's Internet. But at the same time, Mike Fortin was over at CFCC actually building DND's Internet (ISDN). I tried to stop the stupidity but who would listen to reason - has anything changed? But, I got to travel a lot in that job since I also managed a NATO communications research project. In 1995, I took over as CO of 706 Communications Squadron in Borden - best job ever. I remember during our early training being told that we should aspire to command - that was why. To have the opportunity to lead fellow Canadians and make a daily difference was a great experience and the highlight of my CF career. Based on my previous BTelO job and the CO 706 Comm Sqn job, I decided I was happiest and most suited to a job where I could work near the people who actually soldered wires and turned screwdrivers; so in 2001, I took my release and accepted a civilian position with Base TIS at Borden. The alternative was Staff College and then probably back to Ottawa managing people who managed projects that wouldn't deliver anything for another 10 years. Near Borden, we bought a big house on 7 acres where over the years our girls have grown up in one spot and I've got to play with making maple syrup and learning beekeeping. I also had fun building an electric car in 2004. Alix has had the opportunity to settle on one field of work - IT and she's much better at it than I am! The wonderful benefit of her RMC Fuels and Materials Engineer education was that she was able to take up just about anything as we moved around - LCMM for POL, procurement officer for ship refits, catalog system upgrade, selling DND's CF5 aircraft, AdminO in Portage, harassment investigator in Borden, network manager of the CF recruiting network and finally she recently transferred to SSC as their Team Leader for the Barrie area. James Holden tech@scaccom.biz Spouse : Cindy Wedding Year : 1991 Children : Emily (14) Current Job : Chief Test Pilot Airbus Helicopters Australia Pacific Group Narrative since graduation : Completed flying training at Moose Jaw and Portage and then went on to fly Sea Kings with 423 and 443 Squadrons in Halifax and Victoria. Went to Test Pilot School in the UK where I met Cindy. Dragged her back to Cold Lake where I was working at the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment. Spent a short stint in Halifax then qui the CF and joined the Australian Defense Force in 1995. Worked as a TP there then left and joined Raytheon and then Eurocopter. Have been Eurocopter (Airbus Helicopters) Chief Test Pilot since 2000. Al Howard ajj.howard@hotmail.com Spouse : Sydney Wedding Year : 1984 Children: Frazier(24) Ainsley(21) Current Job : Post Cdn Forces Narrative since graduation : Hi all …. I had a thoroughly awesome 36+ years career in the CF which I concluded in Dec 13. What a blast - I would repeat the whole thing again in a heart beat if I could :) I sure appreciated the soldiering, training and deployment aspects of CF life. I am currently navigating my next stage in life's journey where balance reins supreme!! Between family, travel, fitness and so me work I enjoy, on my terms, every day to the max!! Ken Lansing klansing35@gmail.com (705)796-3005 35 Jill's Court Barrie, ON Barrie Canada Spouse : Carrie Wedding Year : 1986 Children : Catharine (24); Elizabeth (19) Current Job : Special Education Resource Teacher / Federation Steward Hobbies/Pastimes : Golf, skiing, camping, hiking, canoeing, reading, gardening, and volleyball. Family : After graduating from Ryerson University, Carrie worked in the insurance industry for a number of years. She has been working for the Simcoe County District School Board as the Executive Administrative Assistant for the Facility Services Department for the past eight years. Daughter Catharine (24) graduated from Georgian College with a Diploma in Environmental Technology, and is presently upgrading to a degree online through Royal Roads University, while working fulltime at Kitchen Innovations in King City. Daughter Elizabeth (19) is now starting her second year in Human Kinetics at the University of Guelph, and played varsity soccer in her first year. Ken Lansing Continued Narrative since graduation : One month after graduation, Ken began working as a Youth Worker for the Scott Mission in downtown Toronto. Around the same time, he was reintroduced to his younger sister's long time friend, Carrie, and that was all she wrote! 30 years later, they continue to live a happy domestic existence, and are the proud parents of two daughters, Catharine, and Elizabeth. After four years of youth work, Ken returned to school, attending the Brock University Faculty of Education. Upon graduation, he accepted a teaching position with the Simcoe County Board of Education, and he and Carrie returned to their hometown of Midland, to embark their on new adventure - parenthood. After 25 years as an educator Ken has worn a variety of hats, having taught virtually every grade in one capacity or another. The current hat he wears is that of a Special Education Teacher. As well, he has coached soccer, track and field, and basketball, both in school, and in the community. Ten years ago, Ken was heavily involved in curriculum development and implementation for the school board and the Ministry of Education, and was preparing to take the final steps toward becoming a principal. What is the old saying, "Man makes plans and God laughs?" Ken was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and a year-and-a-half long battle was begun. Understandably, this was a stressful time for the Lansing family. However, thanks to the prayers and support of Carrie, their daughters, their extended family and friends, the medical community, and a series of remarkable events (Ken and Carrie are contemplating writing a book on their adventure), Ken was declared cancer-free. Ken is eligible to retire from teaching in three years, but is probably going to continue teaching for at least one year beyond the time his daughters finish their schooling, so he can finally experience what a full paycheque feels like! As well, he is contemplating his options for his next career. Mike MacGregor mike@themacgregors.ca 139 Jockridge Road Carleton Place, Ontario K7C 4M2 Canada Spouse : Marilyn MacGregor Wedding Year : 1988 Children : Katherine (Katie) (21) Graham (19) Current Job : Program Manager, Supervisor, at Communications Security Establishment, Ottawa Hobbies/Pastimes : Current hobbies, include: - photography - cabinet making/wood working - motorcycle touring - amateur radio (VE3QMM) - canoe tripping - hiking Family : I met my wife, Marilyn, in 1986 and we married in August, 1988. Katie is in the fourth year of a five year International Development Studies at University of Toronto Scarborough Campus (UTSC) and is currently in Gaborone, Botswana on her eight month co-op term. Graham is in third year at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), Oshawa where he is studying computer networking and network security. Narrative since graduation : Immediately after grad, I proceeded to Victoria to complete my training at a MARE (Combat Systems) officer. Unfortunately, the fact that whenever the ship slipped the jetty I became hopeless seasick caused me to take "extreme measures" (a great beer story) to extricate myself from the grips of the "maritime element". Eventually, I was re-trained as a CELE (Air) officer at CFSCE, CFB Kingston and was posted to CFS Carp in 1986. After two years, I managed to locate an engineering posting in Ottawa at DCSEM. Two years later, I was posted for three years to The Pentagon, Washington DC on exchange with the USAF telecommunications organization. In 1993, I returned to Ottawa to a number of telecommunications engineering positions, was promoted to Major (my last promotion) and ended up running a small unit of project officers supporting deployed operations. In 1999, I was posted within Ottawa (again), but this time as the Project Manager within the Defence Message Handling System Project. I left the CF in 2002 to take on a program management position at Communications Security Establishment, Ottawa where I remain currently. Now in my 34th year of military and public service, I plan to retire in the next four years. I retired from the CF in July 2009 and took a senior systems analyst and program manager position with Intelligent Software Solutions, Inc where I manage the RCAF National Aerospace Planning Process Integration Capability (NAPPIC) program. In 2010 I relocated to Pensacola FL to escape cold winters and enjoy the world's most beautiful beaches, best social scene and friendliest people on the continent. I met my current wife Tammy through a shared Mardi Gras Krewe membership and was married in October 2011. We enjoy travelling the world and seeking out authentic Irish pubs wherever they may be. We are in the process of moving to Colorado Springs CO where Tammy can indulge her irrational fascination with snow - I figure I'm qualified - and I can expand the scope of my management of ISS Inc air battlespace management program stewardship. Jackie Pothier jpothier@dewengineering.com Current Job : Director Business Development Hobbies/Pastime: I workout, not because I like it, but because I want to stay healthy. So Tae Bo, P90X, or touching my toes while watching TV, whatever works. For fun, I ride my motorbike, shoot (targets only!), golf, ski, dance, and enjoy time out with my friends. Traveling remains a huge part of my life; I just got back from Iceland and the Baltic this September. Narrative since graduation : On grad day I marched off the square a civvi. Yup, I was RETP. So I let my hair grow…oh wait, it was long in the first place! It was off to Burlington, ON where I worked for Westinghouse for 3 years. I then quit my job to do the second best thing I ever did in my life (first was going to RMC) and that was backpack around the world for a year. I skipped most of Europe as I figured I would get back to that when I was old and grey (like now). I visited Egypt, India, Nepal, Thailand, and Australia to name a few of the 18 countries. The cultural diversity I was exposed to fueled my passion for more adventure traveling, as well as gave me a huge appreciation for living in Canada. Example: has anyone reading this ever had a tooth filing ceremony? A Balinese rite of passage… Ouch! I’d rather be put through the Obstacle Course again. In 1988 I settled in Ottawa where I have lived ever since. I joined DEW Engineering & Development as a Project Engineer, where I have worked ever since. I’m now Director at the company and very much enjoy the people and the job. DEW is a defence company, so I often come across many of my RMC friends, which really makes my day when it happens. I have also traveled quite a bit for my work, much of it in Europe. As I said, I knew I would get there! I have a fantastic family in Nova Scotia that I often go visit. And yes, I got married to a wonderful guy. Then we divorced. Happily, he’s still a wonderful guy. No kids though, which is why I received an expensive bottle of wine from Colin Murray at our 15th RMC reunion! Yes, a bet from years before. The picture I’ve included is from an RMC 84 get together in Ottawa Sept 2013. I put it in because you are all my family and I am honoured to be part of it. Suzanne Raby Current Job : Joint Force Command Brunssum Hobbies/Pastimes : Enjoy travel, photography, history and physical fitness. Surrounded by books everyday is a dream for me. I am also an avid kayaker. We have a permanent trailer in the Thousand Islands and I usually am on the St Lawerence but I must say I do prefer a nice quiet lake like Charleston Lake for a more relaxing paddle! We started travelling south to celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2008 and haven't stopped. We ensure we get away every winter and we are really looking forward to this season's trip to St. Kitt's where we have rented a villa with two other couples and are looking forward to some great adventures! One of my more memorable achievements was to celebrate my 50th birthday by walking around the outside of the top of the CN Tower. It was a breathtaking experience! Family : We have 2 daughters, Ashley and Kelly. Ashley was just recently married to a great guy in a beautiful ceremony and works here in Ottawa. She graduated from McMaster and received her Master's from Carleton in Social Work and now works with the Federal government. My younger daughter Kelly is the adventurous one. She received a diploma from Algonquin for photography and last year spent 9 months in BC working with organic produce, touring around and picking cherries. She has received a degree in Art History and is on her way back to University with the goal of becoming a midwife. My husband, Jerry, put his career on hold for the first 12 years of my military career but when we returned to Ottawa, in 1992 he focussed on his career in the lighting business and so when an opportunity arose to retire, I did so which allowed him to become quite the success in his field. Narrative since graduation : Since graduation in 1984, I went to CFB Trenton Base Supply for 4 years and then was posted to NDHQ in Ottawa to the Director of Supply Management for 3 years and then off to Air Command Headquarters in Winnipeg but only for 1 year at which time I requested a return posting to Ottawa which saw me returning to DSM until I retired in 1996. At that point, with 2 small kids at home, I started my own very successful home daycare for 10 years. In 2006 I joined the Ottawa Public Library where I am currently employed as the Public Service Supervisor for the Greenboro Branch. This last job is a job I love and hope to stay where I am until I retire completely!
