INSTRUCTION GUIDE
TARGA BAR ENDS
THIS BRIEF INSTRUCTION GUIDE CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND STORE IN A SAFE PLACE.
This product requires particular care for proper installation. This instruction guide contains instructions and warnings, plus torque specifications, to be
used in conjunction with the owner’s manuals and instruction guides supplied with your bicycle.
WARNING! Failure to follow these instructions may result in a catastrophic failure of the components while riding, which may result in
serious personal injury or death.
WARNING! Bicycle assembly is a complicated task which requires training and experience. Do not attempt installation of any component
if you do not have experience and training as a bicycle mechanic. Failure to follow this warning may result in serious personal injury or
death. Reference should also be made to Barnett’s or some other comprehensive bicycle manual.
WARNING! Failure to follow the torque specifications in this instruction guide will void your warranty, but most importantly may result in
damage to the bar end and/or handlebar which may not be visible. If the components are damaged, this can result in loss of structural
integrity, which may result in serious personal injury or death. To ensure the best assembly possible and to prevent any damage to the
components, follow all torque specifications.

NOTE: Verify with the handlebar manufacturer that
their handlebars are bar end compatible and can
accept the bar end torque requirement.
„„ Internal conical

„„ Clamping surface on carbon handlebars (Fig.4): Specialized recommends the application of a carbon assembly compound on the surface of the bar
ends in contact with a carbon handlebar to increase friction and torque effectiveness. See your Specialized Authorized Dealer for additional information.
„„ Bar end plugs for carbon handlebars (Fig.5): To ensure maximum torque effectiveness, as well as to prevent any handlebar damage, bar end plugs are
required. Specialized offers lightweight expandable 100% CNC machined alloy bar end plugs (2115-1030), recommended for use with Specialized XC
Flat carbon handlebars, or any carbon bars with an inner dimension between 18.5 and 20.0mm. Please refer to the CNC Bar End Plug Instruction Guide for
additional plug information.
„„ Torque the bar end bolts to 80 in-lbf (9.0 N*m).
If the bar ends do not apply enough friction and slip at the recommended torque specification, inspect the clamp surface of the bar end and rough up /
clean the surface with a light sandpaper to optimize the surface area for clamping, and ensure that the bolts are properly greased. If slip still occurs, bring
the bike to your local Specialized Authorized Dealer for inspection.
WARNING! Exceeding the recommended torque specification and/or bottoming out the back of the clamp can result in damage to the bar
end and/or handlebar. Failure to follow the bar end installation directions can result in slippage or failure of the bar ends. This may lead to
loss of control and possibly injury or death.
ADDITIONAL WARNINGS
„„ Specialized bar ends are made to be lightweight and are not suitable for all riders and all possible uses. The rider weight limit for these bar
ends is 240lb (109kg). Failure to follow this warning may result in a catastrophic failure of the bar ends, causing personal injury or death.
„„ Specialized bar ends are not designed for downhill riding.
„„ WORKING WITH CARBON HANDLEBARS: Great care should be taken to not damage carbon fiber or composite material. Any damage
may result in a loss of structural integrity, which may result in a catastrophic failure. This damage may or may not be visible in inspection.
Before each ride, and after any crash, you should carefully inspect your bar ends and handlebar for any fraying, gouging, scratches
through the paint, chipping, bending, or any other signs of damage. Do not ride if the components show any of these signs. After any
crash, and before you ride any further, take your bicycle to a Specialized Authorized Dealer for a complete inspection.
