Untitled - Warszawa jest trendy
September does not have to be associated with going back to school exclusively. Take part in Warszawa jest trendy and see for yourself, that in the
capital city, the end of summer holidays does not mean the end of relaxing!
Soon, on the first weekend of September, the capital city of Warsaw invites
for events organized all over the city. This year, you can take part in, i.a., an
open-air game at the ZOO, visit various places, nooks and crannies of the
city known from history and films, or watch films and theatre plays prepared
specially for this event. Holiday atmosphere will be emphasized by concerts
within Super Warsaw! and Children’s Warsaw. And if – after holiday fun and
tasty treats – you feel like doing some exercise, make sure to take part in
sporting events we have prepared. Warszawa jest trendy is also another good
occasion for spending time by the Vistula – eat breakfast in the open air by
the river, and – in the evening – listen to concerts at clubs and cafes located
along the river bank.
We encourage you to read the programme and make your summer holidays
longer by at least one weekend!

Anna Wyszkoni
One of the most liked and charismatic vocalists on the
Polish music scene. Her oeuvre comprises an impressive
number of hits, awards and honours, along with almost
half a million copies of her albums sold. In 2016, Anna
Wyszkoni celebrates the 20th anniversary of her artistic
activity. Anna Wyszkoni’s solo albums, namely Pan i Pani
and Życie jest w porządku, were both certified double
platinum. They brought such hits as Czy ten pan i pani,
Z ciszą pośród czterech ścian, Zapytaj mnie o to, kochany,
as well as Wiem, że jesteś tam, which won Superjedynka
for the best song of the year. In 2015, the artist released
a Christmas album titled Kolędy wielkie, with the hit
Od nieba do nieba. Her new, anniversary album is to
be released in the autumn of 2016.
Each and every concert by Anna Wyszkoni is a magnificent show, with LED screens, visuals and rich multimedia
settings. The artist is accompanied by a group of wellknown and experienced musicians. Ania’s 20/20 concert
tour features the artist’s greatest hits, created over the
course of the 20 years of her work on stages.
Kozak System
Powerful musical volcano of energy, and totally unique,
too. It comprises a blend of Ukrainian and Balkan music,
with distinct rock, ska and reggae accents. This mix of
styles and music genres, combined with their strong lyrics
and powerful instruments, creates the style named Kozak
Rock. Kozak System’s concerts mean a maximum dose of
positive energy, fantastic contact with the audience and
ravishing solo performances by the musicians.
Kozak System were engaged in helping people protesting
on Kiev’s Maidan since day one. They were the first
group to play a concert for the crowd of several hundred
thousand of protesters. Nowadays, their concerts became
a permanent part of events taking place in the Ukraine.

producer of the project. He is also a drummer, plays the
bass and keys. Nat adds segments of their compositions
for the flute, she is the vocalist and lyrics author. Onuka
comprises: vocals, keyboard instruments, electronic
percussion, two trombones, French horn, bandura and
flute.
In 2015, Onuka received a number of prestigious awards:

Chopin in Krakowskie Przedmieście will take place for
the 7th time already. Just like every year, the event is
dedicated to the oeuvre of Fryderyk Chopin, and music
inspired with his creative output. Concerts will be taking
place on a small stage by King Zygmunt III Waza Column
and on a big stage in Hoover Square. Most of all, there
will be jazz interpretations presented, but there will also
be quasi-classical and broadly understood World Music-inspired renditions played. Among the performers, there
are young but already artistically mature artists who play
the composer’s classical pieces, as well as representatives
of Polish jazz scene, long-renowned in Poland and abroad.
Each of them explores Chopin’s music in a diversified
way, giving the listener a chance to appraise different
approaches to a given musical material.

Before the concerts, we invite you to a dance performance
which will take viewers on a journey guided by Fryderyk
Chopin’s music. The spectacle will be based on elements
of contemporary dance, improvisations and work with
a partner, in relation with classical compositions by
Fryderyk Chopin. The dynamics and narrative of Chopin’s
music will become the starting point for the creation of
a choreography based on structures of duets, trios or
group sequences.
Choreography and composition: Karolina Kroczak
Music arranged and performed by Julia Singalewicz-Sobczak
Dancers: Talya Balikcioglu, Katarzyna Burzyńska, Krysia

We invite you to an extraordinary concert: Super Warsaw!
On the main stage in Defilad Square, stars of Polish and
world music scene will perform.
James Arthur
James Arthur is a British vocalist who rose to fame thanks
to his debut single titled Impossible. The piece became and
international hit, topping music charts in 34 countries all
over the world. The artist’s popularity means that tickets
for his concerts sell like hot cakes. This year, James Arthur
began a world concert tour, one of the stops during which
will be Warsaw.
Natalia Nykiel
Over the course of the last year, Natalia has become an
unquestioned musical icon on the Internet. Still before

the release of her debut album, journalists dubbed her the
most intriguing and awaited debut of 2014. Overall, her
music videos have been watched almost 40 million times.
One of them, Bądź duży, got to the second place on the
list of most frequently watched Polish music videos, and
was sixth on the list of most viewed music videos from the
world over in Poland in 2015!
Her career started in a TV show titled From Kindergarten
to Opole (Od przedszkola do Opola) and developed
smoothly, to the rhythm of numerous festivals, song
reviews and TV shows. Among other achievements at
a very young age, Natalia won Chance for Success (Szansa
na sukces), where she took part in an episode dedicated to
the oeuvre of the queen of Polish song, Maryla Rodowicz.
Her album Lupus Electro was nominated for a number
of music awards, many of which the artist in fact won.
In 2012, the artist’s serious solo career began. She debuted
with a single titled Jane, with music and lyrics by Marek
Kościkiewicz. It was followed by a song titled Wszystkiego
na raz, which was the effect of Natalia’s collaboration with
rap musician Liber – the song entered music charts of such
radio stations as RMF FM and Radio Zet.
The world of Lupus Electro is a blend of mathematically
finished electronic sounds with the unpredictability of
primordial instincts, contained in the lyrics. The starting
point for the creation of the album’s concept was a computer error. An error which emerges from millions of
connections of electronic entities, in order to present itself
on a screen and change the run of events irreversibly
– stop the precise mechanism and open the door to parallel
universes. Shyly, the artist invites the listener to go on this
dangerous journey, where nothing is sure and the direction
of sightseeing is outlined by running wolves.
At the end of February this year, the artist released a single
titled Mirrors, topping music charts of the biggest radio
stations. The song became the most played Polish piece
and was selected by listeners to compete for a Grand Prix
in Opole, as one of 53 songs of the last 25 years.
In the autumn, Natalia’s solo album drops, long-awaited
by fans.
Grzegorz Hyży
Grzegorz Hyży began his adventure with singing... by
chance, at a jam session in one of the clubs in Poznań.
Since then, he has followed a clearly defined path, where
accidents are not an option any more. The breakthrough
came for the artist with his participation in the third
edition of The X-Factor, where he ended up taking the
second place. Can a career started with popularity gained
thanks to a TV show actually happen? The album titled
Z całych sił proves that Hyży did know how to make use
of the chance he was given. A perfect sense of rhythm,
disturbingly hypnotizing vocals and, first of all, a clear
idea for his own creative activity – all this makes Grzegorz
Hyży’s debut album one that many more experienced
artists would not be ashamed of. At the moment, Grzegorz
is working on a new LP, to premiere at the beginning of
November 2016. And during the summer holidays you’ll
listen to a totally new piece, titled Pod Wiatr.
Natalia Szroeder
The most talented and most sought-after Polish singer
of the young generation is only 21. However, she has
accustomed herself with stages since the age of 4.

is Małgosia Kosik, encourages the youngest ones to play,

joyful singing by members of Małe SIE children’s group.
The young musicians will show youngsters that everybody

greatest hits, such as Gruszka and Olimpiada w Jarzynowie.
A concert for the youngest ones cannot take place without
the undisputed queen of songs for children, Majka
Jeżowska. Colourful outfits, catchy songs, humour and
great contact with the audience will inspire every viewer to
enjoy themselves, regardless of their age. Encouraging kids
to have fun before closing the event will be a foreign artist,
DJ MAM’s. The original performer has taken the world
music scene by storm and won hearts of little listeners with
his unique mix of traditional rhythms from France, Spain,
North Africa and Martinique, and Guadeloupe.
Healthy and active: Zumba classes
The programme of Children’s Warsaw would not
be complete without physical activities for children.
Children will be invited to participate in Zumba Kids
lessons, open for everybody. The classes offer an original
mix of several dance styles, such as salsa, bachata and
hip-hop. These lessons support proper psychomotor
development in children, improve their balance, teach
team work, creativity and discipline. Thanks to great fun,
Zumba Kids is also an excellent way of encouraging the
little ones to do sports. During the workshops within
Children’s Warsaw, kids will learn the basic dance steps
and take part in games with peers, which will help them
really get into sports.
Learning through play during creative workshops
for children
On the occasion of Children’s Warsaw, Defilad Square
will be brimming with tents and stands with activities and
attractions for the youngest ones. All activities prepared
for kids come in the form of fun games, which shape
correct habits related with health and safety. One of the
attractions within Children’s Warsaw will be workshops
on how to stay safe on your way to school, and on first aid
– prepared specially for the youngest ones. Little chefs and
their grown-up helpers are invited to culinary workshops
titled I know what I eat, during which children will get
acquainted with the arcana of healthy eating and tasty
cooking.
During computer classes, kids fascinated with new
technologies will get a chance to try their hand at the hard
art of programming, and take their first steps guided by
specialists in the field. Maybe a new computer genius
will reveal her- or himself? Organizers of Children’s
Capital did not forget about artistic souls either. Young
masters will be developing their talents during workshops
dedicated to playing musical instruments, art, as well as
photography and film.

how to raise dogs and cats. The action is part of a project

How will you spend your 100th birthday? Nowadays,
a statistical Polish man lives 73 years, and a woman – 81.
And we live longer and longer. Having analysed data, some
demographers, led by James Vaupel, estimate that life
expectancy will continue to rise by almost 2.5 years every
decade. However, will the price of being able to blow more
and more birthday cake candles not be too high? Where
does the limit of prolonging the human life lie? Or maybe
we will be helped by technology, thanks to which we will
obtain immortality in a digital form? This year, Przemiany
Festival encourages you to reflect on the immortality
enticement.

Dorożkarnia – within its regular collaboration with Pijana
Sypialnia – will present to Varsovians one of the theatre’s
most acclaimed spectacles, titled Wyjowisko. The performance will take place in the courtyard. We will feel an
idyllic atmosphere of a land where one spends one’s life
feasting and engaging in love games. This mood will
be emphasized by the play’s action, banquet songs by
Moniuszko and Chopin, dances and costumes.
Exhibition: Immortality Enticement
2–4.09 / noon – 11:00 pm
The exhibition seeks to understand the phenomenon of
longevity, as well as myths and dreams grounded in our
nature, related with immortality. Analysing the current
knowledge of the issue, it poses questions about the limits
of our life (both in the biological and ethical context),
about possible ways of prolonging it, as well as the
rationale of such actions.
Pijana Sypialnia was created in collaboration with
Dorożkarnia. Five enthusiasts founded a theatre of their
dreams there. Today, this now-independent group is made
of more than 80 artists. Their spectacles attracts throngs of
demanding lovers of Melpomene and ordinary passers-by
alike.

Family open-air workshops, during which inhabitants
of Siekierki, under the eye of a specialist, will design and
create their own, original kites, and then test them at the
nearby grounds by the Vistula. It will be a great occasion
for spending time with your family, friends, neighbours
from your housing estate, and at the same time learn the
art of making kites, just like the ones each of us used to
fly when we were kids.
Most probably, everybody remembers their first kite,
flown together with their parents, siblings, friends.
Building a kite is a pleasant activity your whole family
may engage in. Simple, both in terms of handling and
constructing, it can bring you lots of joy.
We will meet in Dorożkarnia’s courtyard, at aptly prepared
working stations. Participants will be invited to make big
and small, various flying objects by themselves. Everybody
will find something to their liking. Of course, you can
bring your own kites, to let them fly in the sky.

from August 1939
2.09 / 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm / pr emier e
3–4.09 / 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Performance based on the story of Henrietta Lacks
– an indigent African American, who was diagnosed
with cervical cancer in 1951. She passed away that same
year, but before her death, a sample of her cancer cells
was taken for examination. The way the biopsied cells
acted was far from regular. It turned out they reproduced
at an unprecedented rate and didn’t die – meaning that
they were basically immortal. This is how one of the most
momentous episodes in the history of science began,
and HeLa cells (named after the donor) became one of
the most important tools of contemporary biomedicine.
Thanks to them, the polio vaccine was created, and some
groundbreaking discoveries were made in the field of
tumour aetiology. They also played an important role
in the process of mapping of the human genome, and
in research on IVF and cloning.

Teatr Rampa, known for its many wonderful musical
spectacles for children and teenagers, is preparing
a new musical for children, titled Children’s Day.
The performance premieres on 17th September. Within
Warszawa jest trendy, we are giving the youngest Viewers
an extraordinary chance to take a behind-the-scenes
look at the theatre and our work, during one of the last
rehearsals.
Founded by Emilian Kamiński 9 years ago, privately
owned theatre in the centre of Warsaw. Kamienica’s (Polish
for tenement house) name is not random, as the theatre
is located in a tenement house built in 1901, the only
building in this area to survive WWII. Kamienica has
three stages and beautiful restaurant rooms. When visiting,
you definitely should go and see a miniature of old-time
Warsaw, presenting the strict centre of the city from
August 1939.

Performance Sleeping Beauty
3.09 / 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
4.09 / 11:00 am – 12:30 pm
Sleeping Beauty is based on the classical fairy-tale written
by the Grimm brothers. It is a spectacle about parents’
infinite love for their child, and their attempt to protect
it from dangers of the adult life that lie in wait. It is a story
about love, freedom and friendship between a parent and
a child, as well as about how the world changed during
the princess’ one-hundred-year-long sleep. The story of
Sleeping Beauty shows that it is worth to trust your child
and support its independence. The performance reminds

us how important it is to protect and take care of our
natural environment.
Sleeping Beauty is a musical for children ages five and
older. Songs span various genres: rock, blues, reggae and
hip-hop. Diversified music creates the spectacle’s dramatic
atmosphere and introduces changes in its rhythm, building
varying musical moods, from lullabies to rock sounds.

The spectacle presents a critical moment, in which the
main character’s congenial childishness is endangered. For
the first time ever, Nicholas goes to a summer camp – from
his parents taking care of him to being under the authority
of a strict scoutmaster, Mister Râteau. Mr. Râteau’s goal is
to make the young people entrusted to him turn into “real
men”. Can this work out?

Czajka Sewage Treatment Plant is one of the largest and
most modern sewage treatment plants in Poland. Czajka
makes use of mechanical and biological processes. Sewage
sludge created during treatment ferments, and biogas
produced in this way is used by our company to generate
energy. Participants of the tours will be able to track the
whole technological process, from the moment of straining
larger biological impurities with the use of grids, through
biological treatment and fermentation.

Purification Station
Central Plant, Filtry Water Purification
Staton, 81 Koszykowa St.
Filtry is the oldest water purification station in Warsaw,
operating since 1886. The station was designed by William
Lindley. Slow sand water filters and the water tower are
typical examples of 19th-century industrial architecture,
enravishing with the constructions’ precision and their
meticulous execution even today. In the 1930s, an art deco
Rapid Filters Institute was built on the Station’s premises.
In 2012, the Plant was listed as a Historical Monument.

The areas of Praga closest to Vistula are associated mostly
with Praha cinema and the Praga combo monument. It is
worth to get to know them better. We will find here the
little angel of Praga, the second-oldest building in Praga,
remains of one-time factories, the school building where
Janusz Korczak used to go, apartment buildings being
raised on the premises of Praski Port and an old-time
slaughterhouse – places where the old neighbours on
the new. We will finish the walk in one of Praga’s bars.

meeting at 84 Targowa St./11 Listopada St.
Intriguing, you often pass through there but hardly ever
take a look around. It used to be a borderline between two
worlds: civil and military. A long time ago, it was known
mostly as the route of funeral processions; for several years
now, it has been visited by party-goers frequenting the
club area. Few stop to take a closer look, so it’s time to
do it now.

Unrecognised, just like the whole right bank, Skaryszewski
Park’s landscape holds extraordinary assets. With its hills,
hundreds of tree varieties and picturesque bodies of water,
it is a spectacular gallery of diversified open-air sculptures,
miniature Poland, arena of fights during the Uprising,
one-time cemetery for Soviet soldiers. Without restrictions
similar to those in Łazienki, the park offers real green
grass, but it is also worth to visit it in order to open your
eyes wider and learn more about the history of Warsaw.

Then, along the scarp, through Foksal St. – with stories of

will visit Prince Chamberlain’s magical labyrinth, hidden in
the scarp. Following that, we will take a look at the YMCA,
talk about Tyrmand, then pass through gardens of the

meeting by the entrance to dworzec wileński
Metro station (Wileńska St.)
It is a place worth staying longer at. Right beside
– a pre-war complex of railway buildings. The monumental
complex was visited by Ignacy Daszyński’s temporary
government, and played a role in Roman Polański’s The
Pianist, pretending to be a radio broadcasting studio. Then,
there is the Orthodox Church of St. Mary Magdalene,
glittering with gold, and the old Nowa Praga, with
charming little tenement houses which stood the test
of time, and with a club area in 11 Listopada St.,
the Church of Our Lady of Loreto – the oldest one in
Praga, and the main attraction of the district, namely the
ZOO, visited by up to 20,000 guests a day – in the season.
Plus, widely available traditional Warsaw cuisine, offered
by the area’s numerous bars.

Pantomime workshops with Lala Bajka
vis-a-vis the Multimedia Fountain Park
We invite you to play theatre – an extraordinary theatre,
where stories are “told” without the use of words, where
through movement and gesture one may impersonate
any character and set off on the lookout for all kinds
of adventures. This is pantomime theatre – theatre of
imagination. During the workshops, we will move a lot,
developing body plasticity, its coordination and expression
abilities. Children will learn how to express emotions

and intentions via movement, gesture, facial expressions
and posture. They will also get acquainted with classical
illusions known from pantomime theatre, such as tug-of-war with the use of an invisible line, the wall illusion,
a balloon which “lifts” us up in the air, or an invisible ball
with which you can play just as nicely as with a real one!
The goal of the workshops is not only to develop acting
skills. Pantomime theatre, in which imagination and
creativity play an extremely important role, boosts creative
thinking, encourages to explore one’s own ideas and take
up challenges.
