Minister`s Thoughts... - Northfield Methodist Church
news
17 JULY 2016
This week we continue looking at our
series “Ripple Effect”. The topic that
we are focusing on is “Have a heart”,
which is all about how our actions
should be acts of compassion.
Jesus showed an example of what it
was to live a life of compassion.
This week we will be looking at how
we should love all; with our words,
our prayers and our actions.
How we should love our neighbour as
we love ourselves - and what that
means.
How we should love our enemies and
pray for those who persecute us.
John Wesley said “there is no holiness
but social holiness”.
In other words, we cannot claim to
love God if we do not love others.
The question is how do I live my life in
such a way that there is a ripple effect
in my community, in my work place,
at my school, in my family?
What would my life look like if I learnt
how to “be merciful, just as my Father
is merciful”
(Luke 6:36).
Would you dare to journey with us, as
we explore these questions and
wrestle with these concerns?
Blessings

Discipleship
Dear Friends
Today many of us are very aware of
the struggles of those around us, and
yet we are unsure of what to do.
Sometimes, because of this we
choose to do nothing, or we choose
to justify why people are in those
situations, or we choose to ignore it.
Other times we do reach out, we are
compassionate.

growing God's Kingdom at Northfield, through the actioning of
spiritual, financial and human resources.
> Objectives: To identify and develop strong volunteer support

 The Seniors need wool to knit teddy bears for people in
hospital. Please contact Moira Gulbransen 011 395 3295, as she
is co-ordinating the knitting.
 Help out at the Adult Literacy Classes. We need some people to
simply coach those who need to learn to read and write, you
don’t need to be a qualified teacher. The classes run on
Wednesday afternoons from 2-3:30pm.

Thank you so much for already responding to these requests.
We have received so many bags of clothes, lots of food as well as
donations of money. We have managed to help those on the
streets, as well as some whose shacks have completely burnt
down. Your small donation has made such a difference. That’s
why we call it the “Ripple Effect”.
