INDIANA’S “BISONTENNIAL” CELEBRATION
If you have driven or walked past the Chamber of Commerce office recently, you may
have noticed a new statue sitting out front.
This statue of a bison is in honor of Indiana’s
Bicentennial
Celebration,
or
“Bisontennial.” The bison was chosen
because it is featured on the state seal.
Fifteen concrete statues of buffalo are
being sponsored by local folks and will
be displayed throughout the community.
This winter, the bison will be painted by
Manchester Community School eighth grade
students. The students will paint themes
related to local history or themes that coin-
cide with each participating business. For
example, the police department could ask
that their bison be painted like a police officer, etc. The bison in front of the Chamber
office will be painted like it’s dressed
for a birthday party (in honor of Indiana’s 200th birthday).
This project is approved by a state commission lead by first lady Karen Pence.
Several other cities and towns throughout Indiana are also participating in similar legacy projects.
Funding will be obtained from local
industries, philanthropic organizations
and businesses to sponsor a bison. So
far, the Wabash County Tourism & Visitors Bureau, BIT Computers, the NM
Police Department, the NM Fire Department, Riverbridge Electric, The Town of
NM, Halderman Farm Management,
Harting Furniture and First Financial
Bank are joining the Chamber of Commerce in celebrating this event.
The bison in front of the Chamber of Commerce is
decorated for Christmas.
For more information or if you are
interested in participating in this project, please contact the Chamber of
Commerce at 260-982-7644 or email

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY WAS A SUCCESS
Saturday, November 28, 2015, was Small
Business Saturday, a day founded by American Express that encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses
that are small and local rather than spending
money shopping at large corporate retailers.
The Chamber of Commerce hosted a Shop
Small Passport Event that allowed customers
to collect stamps from local retailers as they
were shopping throughout the day. Thank
you to Blooms & Heirlooms, Cottage Creations Florists & Gifts, the Fruit Basket Inn,
Harting Furniture Gallery, The Inn Pub &
Grill, KenapocoMocha Coffee Shop, Main
View Inn, and One World Handcrafts for
participating in the event.
“It was a great day for us. People really supported it,” said One World Handcrafts owner, Diane Wion.
“We had customers coming in and out all
day, not only from North Manchester, but
from a lot of outlying cities. Even people
from bigger cities like Huntington came to
shop in towns smaller than their own. I think
it was a great day that shows support for
keeping small businesses alive.”
KenapocoMocha Coffee Shop handed out
“Shop Small” bags to its customers on
Small Business Saturday.
Thank you to everyone that participated in
the Passport event and congratulations to
Heather Schilling for being the winner of $50
in Chamber Bucks.
Remember to consider Shopping Small this
entire holiday season and throughout the
year!

3RD ANNUAL TIMBERCREST FESTIVAL OF TREES
It takes months to plan, but the weeks leading up to the event is where the hard work
and planning pays off, as new trees start to
come up.
On Saturday, December 5th, Timbercrest Senior
Living Community celebrated its 3rd annual
Festival of Trees ceremony. Each year, many
local businesses, not-for-profit organizations,
schools, churches, and clubs show off their decorating skills by displaying unique and beautiful
trees in the Timbercrest Festival of Trees.
Also during the Festival of Tress, a Christmas bazaar took place with nearly thirty
vendors from all over the area. This was a
big hit for everyone who wanted to do some
local Christmas shopping.
Visitors who attended the festival were able to
tour the trees located all around the campus.
Cookies and hot cocoa were also available for
visitors to enjoy as they admired the trees and
waited for the arrival of Santa Claus. Two hundred Christmas bells were given out to children
as they enjoyed visits and pictures with Santa.
This year there are about 70 trees on display,
including one “Canned Food” tree that encourages people to bring food to donate to
the Food Pantry.
“I like the process as it all starts to unfold,” said
Community Relations Coordinator Carrie Vineyard. “We like to do it for the community and for

The trees will be on display throughout the
holiday season until January 11th. Feel free
to stop by the Timbercrest Senior Living
Community and take a tour of the many
beautiful trees around the campus.
