M A S T E R S
As the college’s Master of Science Degree program in Information Technology (IT) enters its fourth year this Fall, it will now be
expanded to offer students the option of completing their degree
entirely online. The Information Technology program is designed
for IT professionals who want to advance their knowledge in the
field as a precursor for management positions in the IT industry.
Each term, students may now select their courses in a traditional
Master’s Information Technology Program Now Online
classroom environment, totally online, or in a hybrid combination
of classroom and online offerings.
To be an effective Information Technology leader, a blend of
operational and technical expertise, leadership and management
of projects and teams, and a solid foundation in the principles of
general management is required. The program’s mission is built
around the components that comprise an organization’s informational infrastructure: the software applications that support the
business processes, the information and data sources used to
store data, the processes used to secure the data, the network
used to access data and applications, and the people who design,
Paramedic Technology
Begins This Fall
NEIT’s Associate in Science Degree program in Paramedic Technology is scheduled
to begin this October. Paramedic practice
is grounded in paramedic science, natural
sciences, social sciences, technology and
humanities. This new program prepares
individuals for careers as pre-hospital care
providers for individuals needing medical
attention. Students with an Emergency
Medical Technician (EMT) license, as well
as those individuals who need to obtain an
EMT license, may enroll.
Paramedics work in the fast-paced world
of emergency medicine in rescue vehicles
and emergency rooms as well as in doctors’ offices and other health care facilities.
Paramedics focus on quality healthcare by
providing for the needs of their patients while
advocating and educating patients, families
and communities. They educate people to take
proactive measures to ensure they maintain
a healthy lifestyle.
The Paramedic Technology program has
been designed to offer non-licensed students
the opportunity to earn an EMT license in a
separate preliminary quarter. These students
must then successfully complete the EMT
licensure exam by the third quarter in order
to continue with the Paramedic Technology
program. Throughout the curriculum, students will engage in clinical and laboratory
experiences to complement classroom learning while acquiring paramedic knowledge as
well as clinical, communication, and clinical
reasoning skills.
Licensed EMT graduates of the Paramedic
Technology program are prepared to work in
a wide variety of emergency settings as well
as hospitals, outpatient facilities, healthcare
clinics, long-term care facilities, public
health organizations and home health care.
In addition, individuals are eligible to take
the National Registry of Emergency Medical
Technician paramedic level exam.
manage and implement the applications, data and the network.
New England Tech’s IT program weaves technical topics such
as network architecture, cloud computing and data analytics
with finance, law, project management and leadership. The
program provides individuals with the ability to analyze business
scenarios, anticipate and respond to a continuously changing
environment and effectively assign resources that make up the
organization’s information system. Employment opportunities for
graduates of this program may include Project Manager, Chief
Information Officer, Chief Technical Officer, Chief Information
Security Officer, Network Manager and Systems Integrator.

Mechanical Engineering Grad Shoots for the Moon!
Alexandrea Pimental graduated from NEIT in May, 2015, with an
Associate in Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
This Fall, she will combine her passion for physical fitness and
mechanical engineering as she continues her studies at Brown
University where she will work towards completing a Bachelor of
Science degree in Biomechanical Engineering. A U.S. Navy Veteran,
Alexandrea’s ultimate goal is to one day become an astronaut.
There are many steps Alexandrea must complete on her journey to
becoming an astronaut. This very ambitious and extremely focused
young woman shares her insights with Tech News readers.
What made you decide to
attend NEIT for your degree?
When I graduated from Cumberland High School in 2006, I decided
to join the U.S. Navy rather than
head right off to college as many of
my friends did. In October of that
same year, I enlisted in the Navy
and shipped off to boot camp for
eight weeks in Great Lakes, Illinois,
in February, 2007. From there, I
trained in Pensacola, Florida, to
become a Cryptologic Technician
(CT). I served as a CT for two years
at Fort Meade, Maryland, and for
three years in Kunia, Hawaii. During
my time in Hawaii, I volunteered
to deploy to Baghdad, Iraq, for six
months. I then returned to Kunia to
complete my tour of duty.
Upon separation from the Navy,
my original plan was to continue
working for the government as a
civilian. While I was waiting to get
hired for a government-contracting
job, my brother, who graduated from
New England Tech in March 2005
with a Bachelor of Science degree
in Architectural Building Engineering Technology, suggested I take a
look at the many programs offered
at NEIT. Both my fiancé and I found
programs that we were interested in
pursuing and enrolled in October,
2013. New England Tech’s quarter
system allowed us to begin classes
immediately. We both graduated in
May, 2015. Interestingly enough,
my fiancé earned the “Best of Tech”
award for the Software Engineering
program.
How did you choose your
program?
I chose the Mechanical Engineering Technology program for a
couple of reasons. First, I researched
the possibility of working at the
Naval Undersea Warfare Center in
Newport, RI, and when doing so, I
learned that many of the employ-
ees had mechanical engineering
degrees. My ultimate goal is to one
day become an astronaut, and once
again I found that many astronauts
have mechanical engineering degrees. NEIT’s hands-on approach
to Mechanical Engineering was of
great interest to me. I was impressed
with the level of critical thinking,
creativity, and excitement that I
felt while involved in this program.
What is the next step for
achieving your career goals?
My Associate in Science degree
in Mechanical Engineering Technology has afforded me the opportunity
to attend Brown University this fall.
I am able to design my own concentration, Biomechanical Engineering,
which will take me approximately
three years to complete. I am also
a personal trainer certified by the
American Council on Exercise
(ACE), so by combining my interest in mechanical engineering and
fitness, my focus at Brown will be
designing exercise equipment for
astronauts to use during long duration space flights. The competition
to become an astronaut is fierce.
In 2013, there were 6,000 NASA
applicants, of which only 8 were accepted. No one is born an astronaut.
My approach toward being accepted
into the astronaut-training program
will involve learning a specialized
skill that is necessary in helping
develop our space exploration
program. My niche will focus on
engineering machines that promote
exercise physiology in extreme
environments. By combining my
enthusiasm of mechanical engineering and fitness to improve the health
of astronauts while in space, it is my
hope that one day I will be selected
for the astronaut program. There
are many steps before reaching the
point of a qualified applicant: an
internship at NASA, continuous
training in the gym, researching
the effects of muscle atrophy and
loss of bone density in microgravity, earning a master’s degree, and
gaining related job experience. Each
step of my journey will encompass
heightened levels of discomfort,
new challenging goals, and lessons
that I find inspiring.

Engineering Grad—continued from front page
How did your degree from NEIT
ultimately prepare you for your career
choice?
My experience at New England Tech was
extremely positive in many ways. The professors were great teachers and mentors in the
classroom, the labs, and through the Quadricycle Club where I served as Club President.
The hands-on training and freedom to choose
our design projects allowed me to delve into my
many areas of interest. Because of my leadership skills, I was asked to serve as a peer tutor
and assisted fellow students in Introduction to
Engineering with lessons, homework and lab
assignments during the Spring, 2015 quarter. I
was so pleased to be asked to continue to work
with students enrolled in the Statics course
now being offered during the Summer quarter.
Do you have any advice for graduates
just beginning their job search?
Constantly update your resume! New skills
are developed with each completed quarter.
By keeping a running resume, it becomes
clear which aspects of the program you feel
most competent in, and what skills need to be
sharpened. It is important to work towards a
career in which you can contribute effectively
and improve upon the methods currently being
used. Understanding what motivates you can
help determine which type of career that fits
best for you.
What can current students do to
better prepare themselves for jobs in
their field?
Get the most out of your education! With
each class, fully understand the information being presented. In my technology, it is important
to learn how everything works and how specific
figures are derived. Always strive to go above
and beyond with each assignment and project.
With this approach it will become clear where
your passion lies.

All Class Reunion was a Great Success
On Saturday, June 6, 2015, more than 300 alumni and guests attended
New England Tech’s first All Class Reunion marking the college’s 75th
Anniversary. Adults and children alike enjoyed many fun-filled activities that included mini-golf, face painting, balloon creations, sand art,
games, magic, and puppet shows. Musical entertainment was provided
by many talented NEIT faculty members.
The success of this event is attributed to the many people committed to the establishment of an active Alumni Association. Kudos to
those alumni who stepped forward in the spring of 2014 to assist in
identifying how the NEIT Alumni Association could best serve the
alumni and NEIT. As a result of several meetings, the Alumni Association Steering Committee was formed and a new vision for the New
England Tech Alumni Association was developed. The committee
recommended the college host an All Class Reunion as a family event.

inception in 2011, NEIT’s East Greenwich campus
was the host site for this informative and fast-paced
industry trade show.
This event is free to members of the Rhode
Island Association of Realtors (RIAR). Once
again the collaborative efforts of Bob Larrabee,
Senior Account Executive for NEIT’s Center
for Technology and Industry (CTI), and RIAR’s
Education Committee most notably Mindy Lane
and Agueda Del Borgo, produced another informative day for the exhibitors, the technology
session presenters, and most importantly, the
RIAR membership. Industry-specific breakout

ing initiatives, legal and legislative issues, as well
as budgeting and financing.
This year’s event also had several new twists
for the attendees. Keynote Speakers Gary and
Christina Balletto presented their life’s journey,
“Tiger: A Story of Courage and Determination.”
The Balletto’s currently own a real estate company, a construction company, a restaurant, and a
boxing gym. Mr. Balletto is a local professional
boxing champion and was a fan favorite in the
second season of the reality TV show “The Contender.” After playing many sports, he decided to
start a boxing career, following in the footsteps
of his father and grandfather. He walked away
with the USBF, the EBA, and the IBU World
Lightweight Title.
Unfortunately, an accident left Mr. Balletto
paralyzed from the chest down, but he remains a
hard working business owner and entrepreneur
whose ambition is driven by the love of his
family. “Tiger”, a documentary over a decade
in the making, is a true love story between Gary
and Christina and their bond to overcome all.
He shared his heartwarming story of courage,
determination, setbacks and accomplishments to
a captivated audience.
RIAR partnered with Family Service of Rhode
Island, and realtors were asked to bring new backpacks for needy school-aged children to help give
them the best possible start in the upcoming school
year. More than 200 donated backpacks comprised
the mounded heap visible in the registration area.
NEIT was pleased to be part of this important and
valued community service project.
The following students have achieved academic excellence for the quarter ending June 6, 2015. These full-time students
have been placed on the Dean’s List for achieving a GPA of 3.6 or higher on a maximum scale of 4.0. Congratulations to all.

Scholarship Golf Tournament
Raises Nearly $80,000!
New England Tech hosted its 6th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Monday,
July 13, 2015, at Alpine Country Club in Cranston, RI.
Thirty-five foursomes competed for the tournament’s number one spot. Congratulations
goes to the 1st place foursome of Tom Forsythe, John Sayles, Frank Previti and Brendan
McLaughlin from DiSanto, Priest & Co. Each of these players received a $150 gift certificate to La Masseria Restaurant in East Greenwich, RI. For Tom Forsythe (pictured in
the red shirt) the event was especially exciting as he had a hole-in-one on the 12th hole,
winning a Krank Golf Formula 5 Driver sponsored by BMW of Warwick. Tom also won
the “closest to the pin” contest since you can’t get much closer than that!
Second place winners were Robert Rainville, Alan Lao, John McNulty and Charlie
Perry representing Ruggieri Brothers, Inc. Each player received a $100 gift certificate to
Besos Tea House in East Greenwich, RI. Third place went to Greg Coady, Matt Finger,
Kerry Cole, and John Feldman representing Chartwells. Each player received a $50 gift
certificate to Bistro 9 in East Greenwich, RI. Our thanks to these establishments for their
generous donations.
Winners of the Longest Drive contest were Robin Degraide from Design Fabricators
and Nick Soares from Anodyne Corporation.
The success of the golf tournament is attributed to the sponsors, players and
in-kind donors. It is with great appreciation that we acknowledge those
sponsors who made the tournament one to remember.

Brayan Delacruz, a 2014 Associate in
Science degree graduate from NEIT’s Video
and Audio Production Technology program,
has been using his skills as a Sound Technician/
Engineer through a volunteer internship for
Destiny Africa, a talented children’s choir from
Kampala Children’s Centre, Uganda. Through
music, dance and art, the choir performs before
audiences across the world at schools, colleges,
private/public organizations, companies,
and festivals sharing their story of hope and
changed lives.
For each performance, Brayan is responsible
for the set up and breakdown of all sound
equipment, instruments, and graphics while
overseeing all technical aspects during the
show. During a recent performance at NEIT,
Brayan shared that Destiny Africa’s East Coast
tour has included New England, Virginia,
Illinois, Ohio, and North Carolina. The group
had the honor of singing the National Anthem
at Yankee Stadium and has made nearly 70
appearances during its four month tour. Kudos
to Brayan for sharing his time and talent for
such an exceptional group of children.

NEIT Grad Joins
BMW Step Program
Congratulations to Nick Mancini, a March,
2015 graduate from NEIT’s Associate in Science degree program in Automotive Collision
Repair Technology (ACR), on his acceptance
into the BMW Step Program! Mancini is the
first graduate from NEIT’s Automotive Collision Repair program to be accepted into BMW’s
highly competitive Paint and Body program.
Only 16 graduates nationwide are accepted
into this program, with selections being made
just once a year.
The Paint and Body program runs for eight
months in Oxnard, CA and Woodcliff Lake,
NJ. This program is separate from BMW’s
Automotive Technician program, where seven
other NEIT Automotive Technology graduates
are currently training. Mancini’s acceptance
marks NEIT’s eighth graduate from the Automotive Technology department to be accepted
into the BMW Step Program since December,
2014. Upon completion of the training program,
these students will be employed by BMW
dealerships. Congratulations to all!

Club News…
On May 15, 2015, the NEIT Criminal Justice Club
took a field trip to Boston to visit the Massachusetts
Law Enforcement Police Memorial. This trip coincided
with National Police Memorial Day. The memorial, located in Ashbury Park, is just steps away from the
Massachusetts State House. The names of all Massachusetts police officers killed in the line of duty are inscribed on the memorial including the most recent name
to be added, that of Off. Sean Collier of the MIT Police
Department who was killed by the terrorists responsible
for the Boston Marathon Bombings. A police officer is
killed in the line of duty in the United States approximately every 56 hours. May, 2015, saw 16 line of duty
deaths nationwide. The students also visited the finish
line of the Boston Marathon, which has taken on a new
meaning since the events of April, 2013.
