helpful and had such a good time. This is one of
our favorite events. To be able to honor the pioneer of Shasta County is an honor in its self and
our pleasure. Thank you to the Anderson District Fair Grounds, 4-H , YMCA local officials
and the entertainment for making it possible for
the pioneers to feel special and appreciated.

After summer we start-
ed the year off with a
huge membership event
with BUNKO night at
President Carols home
on September 23. It was
so much fun and a major
success. We had an
amazing turn out . There
was a lot of laughs, wine,
snacks, rolling of the dice and yes shouting of “BUNKO”. Everyone had such
a good time, we definitely plan on doing it again in 2016. Not only did we
gain new members, we gained new friendships. We had the chance to chat
about Soroptimist and the different projects and committees we have. For
those that have not yet joined, still share our passion, they are very supportive, involved and still interested. For more information on the next BUNKO
night please email us at reddingsoroptimist@gmail.com (Photo: Back left to

October
It was a busy month for us. Here is a snap shot
O
ctober is one of our favorite months, because we hold Annual Breast
Cancer Awareness Luncheon. This year, on October 2nd at Holiday Inn in
Redding was our 18th year celebrating with so many members of our community, and it was yet another successful event. A big thank you to our
guest speaker, Deb Hart. She did an amazing job, there was not a dry eye in
the room. So many lives and hearts were inspires and touched by her story.
She will always be welcome back any time. Also, CONGRATULATIONS
to Dr. Bauer, who was the recipient of the Person of Distinction Award. We
can’t thank you enough for all that you do for members in the community,
on your own time. You truly are a beautiful person inside and out. Thank
you to all the sponsors, with your donations we are able to give back to so
many and help those members in the community afford breast cancer detection. We look forward to seeing everyone next year. (Photo: left to right– Connie Strohmyer, Dr. Bauer, Carol Fielding)
October 15th we had a booth at the
Sundial Bridge Lighting event. That
was a fun time. We were able to connect we so many people, we handed
out our NEW & UPDATED Breast
Cancer Awareness Pamphlet. There is
nothing better then direct contact with
the men and women in our community. Having the opportunity to spread
the word on our organization and the
program and funds we have available
to them. Not to mention we are all
there to support the cause. So many
festive outfits on people and their
animals. The best part is when the
sun goes down and the bride becomes the most brilliant shade of pink. It truly is a sight
to see. Photo on the left is the Sundial Bridge all lit up. The photo on the right is a happy group of our members. From right to left: Polly, Nancy, Tina, Linda, Tammy, Carol, Jennifer, Sherry and
Lyn. More members showed up and we had a terrific turnout.

November ….
Let the Holidays begin !!
Lets start the November announcements off with our first
event, Power to the Seniors Soup Kitchen !! This
is the best event to kick off our holiday season. We help
serve up and clean up a variety of hot delicious soup from
local restaurants. There is always a little dancing from our
members, you can’t resist the talented entertainment. The
proceeds from this event help keep the power on for our
wonderful senior citizens in need. It’s an amazing event
that does well and we look forward to it every year. Photo:

Shasta Lake Lions 23rd Annual Northern California Veterans Day Parade was on
November 7th only after the awesome pancake breakfast. Big Thank you to Gary for
letting us use his truck. This event is so special to so many and we are honored to walk
in the parade, patriciate with Veterans, family members of Veterans and other members of the community that love, appreciate and respect Veterans. “God Bless our Veterans and their families” The photo to the right is of our very own member, Tammy
Walker. As she is suited up in her fatigues, being honored for her service, we too are
proud to call her a member of our club and forever grateful for her service to this country.
Marie’s Auction was on Nov 17th and it was a blast!
We had a wonderful turn out, amazing items were brought
in from all the members. We were able to raise a respectable amount of money to benefit our club. We had things like baked goods, hand made throws, jewelry, fruit baskets
right off the vine, wonderful holiday
décor, and much more. In the photo to
the left is member Theresa Nachman,
who was our auctioneer. Theresa made
the event fun, and festive. She did an
amazing job. Theresa was assisted by
SIR members Jennifer Harris and Debbie Wade shown in the photo to the
right, Left to Right. Harris Thank you
ladies for helping to make this annual
event a success. We are an outstanding
group of women. Also a big thank you
to Holiday Inn for hosting our event.
Thank you all the members, without you and your hard work and your big hearts and
compassion for doing good within our community. Maries Auction is one event we can
call our own, and we knocked it out of the park ladies.
So thanks again for each of you, your individuality is what makes our club such a
wonderful and successful experience.

Save the best for last, on the 23rd of November Soroptimist International of Redding celebrated
their 69th Anniversary. We had a potluck dinner at President Carols home on the 20th. We went
around the room and shared some personal experiences and stories about our time with Soroptimist. We
had wine, food and we sure did laugh a lot. It was an amazing time. Cherrel Kirkland did a
wonderful job putting together and organizing the potluck email. Everything turned out perfect. If you
couldn’t make it next year is the big 70! Cheers to a terrific club full of lovely ladies.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from us to you !
Here are some memories from December
Who doesn’t love a festive holiday sweater party? Well we loved it and
had an amazing time at lunch on the 8th. Here are the categories and the
winners of a $5.00 Starbucks gift card.
1) UGLIEST SWEATER– Jonathan Shuler (Tammy Walker
Soropti-mister, photo on the left)
2) PRETTIEST SWEATER– Lorraine Ramsden (photo on the right)
3) FUNNIEST SWEATER– Elisa Bearden (photo in the center, with Louise
Leeds. It was a close race for these two !
On December 21st we participated in the One Safe Place
Camp Hope Holiday Party that was held at the Elks Lodge
1073 in Redding. Instead of having our own holiday party and doing a gift exchange, we decided to purchase gifts for the children
participating in that this event .We were able to gather quite a few
and then President Carol was gracious and opened up her home so
we could wrap them all prior to the event. We were able to assist in
decorating and serving a delicious spaghetti meal to the children
and their families. Lets talk about the festivities, there was a cookie
decorating station, free face painting, free books, and holiday crafts
for the children. Even Santa himself appeared at the event!
magical night for all ages. In the photo to the left is (from left to
right) Rose Worthington, Santa Clause, Sherry Hoyer.

A Message from our President
First off I want to welcome everyone to Soroptimsit Interna-
tional of Redding (SIR) and let you all know what an honor it
has been to serve as President this year. Since the year began
we have been very busy, emphasize on busy! That has not
stopped me from enjoying it. SIR is a team effort with each
member “seasoned” and new, all contributing in so many
ways. With each and everyone of us being so unique and doing our part. We are extremely active in the community (i.e.
Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon, Soup Kitchen, Homeward Bound Project for the Veterans, Mardi Gras, etc.) It is
with our activeness and creativity in our community when we
get the greatest pleasure by serving those in need and changing the lives of the women
and girls, who in turn end up changing our lives by their stories of strength, love, sorrow and heroicness.
I am excited to announce that the Breast Cancer Detection Fund is more defined this year and more women are being helped. I must say SIR is truly a sisterhood
in the finest sense of the word and that our motto “Best for Women” is very appropriate. It is hard for me to put into words the emotions of joy, friendship, loyalty and service that this club and the members bring to me. We have had so many new members
join us over that last few months, it has been such a pleasure getting to know them,
seeing them get excited to learn more about our club and seeing the seasoned members
pass on their knowledge and memories. So with great admiration and true appreciation
I say thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I have been blessed with amazing board
members, who support me as well as each other. I look forward to the rest of the year,
all the new energy we have, planning and putting on events as well as accomplishing
all the goals we have set forth. I know in my heart that there is nothing this club and
out members can not handle and for that is will always be thankful.
