Words from our President Elect
Mike Acaley
NCMA members: thanks again for all
of your support. It’s been a month
since I’ve had the pleasure of leading
the organization and I wanted to start
off by thanking Deb for her service
and her passion for NCMA. We have
two more meetings this year so let’s
make them count! This month we are giving out our two
scholarships to well deserving students and next month is
our member appreciation pizza party. Unfortunately, I
have to pass along the news that our Symposium will not
be held this year. Thank you to Sue Lindsay Jones and
Deb for all of your work. The task proved to be too great
with minimal interest and we ran out of time and resources. Since education is one of the main objectives of
NCMA we will continue to pursue the Symposium next
year along with a slate of speakers directed to education
in Contracts and Business Management. Our slate of
candidates for next year will be presented to members
soon via email and will be stood up at the pizza party for
a vote. Have a great month everyone.

Annual Manufacturing Expo and Dinner in Rockford, IL
The NCMA Rockford Chapter had a booth at the Annual Rockford Manufacturers Expo. According to the Rockford Register
Star the event showcased 30 different businesses and had
525 people in attendance. The dinner included a speech by
Steven Squyres, Principal Investigator for NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover Project. Mike
Acaley, President-Elect,
also attended the Appreciation dinner. Acaley indicated, “the expo and appreciation dinner was a positive way for our chapter to
get exposure to the manufacturer’s of the community.
The message was influential and gave great ideas on
how we can strive as a professional organization in today’s world by focusing on education and the growth
and relationships of our members.”

Education
Sue Lindsay-Jones:
Sue.LindsayJones@KaneyAerospace.com
At our May meeting we will welcome our two scholarship recipients; Shanta
Terry and Gema Delgado. Shanta attends Rasmussen College and will be
graduating with a degree in Financial Accounting. She is active in her
church and will be the first person in her family to graduate from college and
is proud of setting an example for her two daughters. Gema is graduating
this month from Jefferson High School and will be attending Ashford College
to get a degree in Accounting with a minor in Criminal Justice. She too is
active in her church and is a volunteer at the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
During her time at Jefferson, Gema has been involved in athletics including
Soccer, Cross Country and Track. We look forward to welcoming both of
these very deserving candidates to our meeting.
With regard to the Symposium it has been decided to cancel this event until
the Fall.

April and May Brainteaser
John and Fred have a dilemma. They need to get back to town as quickly as possible, but
they only have one bicycle between them. And, of course, you can travel faster on the bike
than you can by walking.
John says, "We'll leave at the same time. You start walking, and I'll ride the bike for a mile.
Then I'll leave it by the side of the road, while you keep walking. When you get to the bike,
you get on it, and you ride for a mile, and then you leave it by the side of the road. When I
get to it, I'll ride another mile. We'll keep leapfrogging like this until we get to town.
"Since we'll be riding part of the way and walking part of the way, each of us will have a
higher average speed than if we walked, so we'll get there faster,” John explains.
Fred says, "That isn't going to do any good, you dope! Think about it. Between the two of
us, one or the other is oing to walk every inch of the way from here to town. So, we can't
possibly get there any faster than if we just walked all the way and didn't use the bike at
all."
Who is right? John, who think they will get there faster or Fred, who thinks it doesn’t make
a difference? Or are they both wrong?
