Blueprints Newsletter - Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity
Blueprints Newsletter Summer 2012 Serving the City of Fredericksburg, and King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford Counties Partnering with Community Changers The Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity believes in working closely with other groups or Churches in the area to impact the community we all live in. Recently we teamed up with Open Hand of Fredericksburg, a 501(c3) with a mission “to partner with underresourced youth and their families in the Greater Fredericksburg area (Planning District 16) to secure sustainable employment through education, leadership development and long-term committed relationships”. Through their generous help we constructed 7 picnic tables which will bring in $700.00 dollars to help build affordable housing in the greater Fredericksburg Area. Open Hand came out with over twenty volunteers, we were able to teach some basic construction techniques, including using drills to sink screws. They were quick studies and put short work to assembling the tables. Open hand is a fantastic group; they are really impacting the lives of young people by helping them acquire job skills. If you would like to learn more about them visit their website at www.openhandoffredericksburg.org . If you are part of a group or civic association that would like to partner with us email, volunteer@fredhab.org LIKE us on Facebook! Individuals make up the backbone of our volunteer base, but we have been blessed to be able to partner with many churches and civic groups in our region and beyond. We want to thank the groups that we have worked with this quarter, they include the Broadneck Habitat High School club from Annapolis Maryland, they spent the week of July 9th working in both our Restore and at our build site. The painted our Lake Arrowhead house and begun installing flooring. We want to thank Khols at Massponax who came out and did some landscape work at our Bellefonte Rd project they not only brought volunteers but gave us some grant funds as well, so thank you to Khols. We also want to thank Target of Massaponax they volunteered with our A Brush with Kindness program, and made it possible for a senior citizen to be able to have needed home repairs at no cost. My name is Jason Tickle; I am the new Volunteer and ABWK Coordinator for our affiliate. I started in February so I have gotten to meet many of you, but I am eager to get a chance to speak with each and every one of you. I can’t tell you how happy I am to be working with Habitat for Humanity; the idea that really drew me to Habitat was Millard Fuller’s comments about the “The theology of the Hammer”, I see it as a great opportunity to put my faith to action. I grew up in the Fredericksburg area so I am very familiar with our region. I graduated from Calvary Chapel Bible College with a degree in Theology, and currently as a volunteer I lead the youth ministry at Calvary Chapel Fredericksburg. If you have questions about how to get engaged with Habitat for humanity, feel free to contact me at volunteer@fredhab.org, or by calling the office at 540-8915009.
